19h ago Khaosod

The Burapha Task Force has successfully reclaimed Thai territory, bringing residents of Nong Chan village back to their homeland for farming after more than 40 years of Cambodian occupation and control.

On May 18, 2025, the atmosphere along the Thai-Cambodian border in Kok Sung District, Sakaeo Province, has become active once again. The Burapha Task Force and specialist forest reserve units have entered the Nong Chan area in Non Makmun Subdistrict to ensure security and facilitate residents who are gradually bringing in tractors and heavy machinery to reclaim their agricultural land. Thailand has successfully restored sovereignty over the disputed territory after a lengthy period.

The area had been continuously invaded and occupied by Cambodian forces for over 40 years, causing many residents to lose the opportunity to farm their ancestral lands. Recently, the Thai military has fully secured and controlled the territory, allowing original landowners to begin returning home to rehabilitate the area for agricultural use once again.

Initially, four villagers have brought machinery to prepare the land, covering approximately 146 rai total, under strict security measures by military personnel. The area remains at risk from unexploded ordnance left over from past conflicts. During operations, officials discovered a suspicious object resembling a buried explosive device in an agricultural plot, prompting an immediate halt to clearing work and cordoning off the dangerous area. The Humanitarian Demining Unit 1 was called in to urgently inspect and retrieve the ordnance.

Authorities have stated they will expedite scanning and clearing operations to ensure the area is 100 percent safe before allowing residents to confidently return and resume farming. This marks another significant step in returning Thai territory to the people after they have waited for more than four decades.

On May 18, Krabi Governor Angkhur Siladeva-akul announced that on May 16, authorities received reports of two foreign tourists—a father and daughter from the Netherlands—who experienced a kayaking accident between Poda Island and Railay Beach in Krabi province. The missing person is Rob Borgmann, age 61, while his daughter who survived reported that they were paddling without wearing life jackets when the kayak capsized, causing her father to drown and disappear at sea. Following the incident, the Krabi Port Safety Control Center coordinated with maritime agencies to launch continuous search operations with assistance from the victim's family. As of today, May 18, the missing person has still not been located, with rescue efforts hampered by unstable weather conditions, heavy rain in several periods, strong wind and waves approximately 2-3 meters high affecting visibility. Governor Angkhur stated that the province takes the matter seriously, as Krabi is a major tourist destination and foreign visitors' safety is paramount. The governor assured the victim's family that authorities will continue searching and pledged to find the missing person soon. Additionally, he ordered relevant agencies to investigate whether kayak operators provided proper safety briefings, weather warnings, and ensured tourists wore life jackets. If negligence is found, strict legal action will be taken.

Unlucky Gas Station Worker! Man Fills Up Car Then Speeds Off Without Paying, Begging Him to Come Back and Settle the Bill

A man driving a black Honda sedan fled an Udon Thani gas station without paying 1,040 baht for a full tank of 95 octane fuel on May 18, leaving the attendant facing potential salary deduction.

19h ago Khaosod

May 18, 2026 – Wongthon Vimlaksorn, 28, legal department head at Sri Plang Energy Company Limited, filed a report with Udon Thani City Police after a motorist pumped a full tank of 95 octane gasoline at the Sri Plang gas station on the Udon Thani-Nong Bua Lamphu Road and fled without paying.

According to Wongthon's account, staff opened the station as usual around 5:03 AM when a man in his 40s driving a black Honda sedan—bearing an Udon Thani license plate—circled the pump once before pulling up. The driver requested a full tank of 95 octane gasoline. The female attendant obliged, filling the tank for 1,040 baht. As she was closing the fuel cap and about to collect payment, the man immediately drove off without paying, even taking the price sign that was positioned in front of his vehicle.

Jitthamas, 35, a gas station attendant with one year of experience earning 12,000 baht monthly, explained: "He lowered his window slightly, asked for a full tank of 95, so I filled it up. He said he'd scan to pay, so I was getting my phone ready when he just drove off. I was shocked and couldn't do anything right. I've never experienced this before. I'd like to tell that car—there's no need to do this. Our station already offers discounted prices, cheaper than competitors. Diesel is 30 satang less, and gasoline is 1 baht cheaper. I don't know what management will say. If they deduct my salary, it'll be tough. I'm hoping he'll come back and pay."

Suphamas Orders Consumer Protection Committee to Expand Bus Recklessness Investigation, Demands Window Damage Reimbursement from Passengers

An elderly bus passenger injured in a high-speed turn was wrongly charged 4,300 baht for window damage; Thailand's consumer protection minister has ordered an investigation and demanded reimbursement, calling it a violation of passenger rig

20h ago Khaosod

On May 18, 2026, Suphamas Israpakdi, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister's Office and overseer of the Consumer Protection Board (CPB), addressed the incident involving bus line 4-3E on the Victory Monument-Mo Chit 2 route. An elderly female passenger suffered a head injury when the driver made a sharp turn at high speed on May 16th, causing her to strike and shatter a window. She was detained and forced to pay 4,300 baht in damages before being taken to the hospital.

Suphamas confirmed the victim should not pay this amount and ordered the CPB to coordinate with the Land Transport Department to improve public transportation safety standards across the system to prevent similar incidents. She emphasized the matter extends beyond disciplining the two employees involved, as it constitutes a violation of consumer rights under Section 4 of the Consumer Protection Act B.E. 2522 in two key areas: the right to safe service use and the right to compensation for damages.

Charging an injured passenger for damages caused by employee negligence is an improper burden-shifting, and consumers bear no responsibility for damages they did not cause. Suphamas urged all state and private transport operators to remember that once they collect fares, their primary duty is to safely deliver passengers to their destination. If an incident occurs, passengers must be taken to a hospital immediately. Under no circumstances should operators detain passengers or threaten them to extract payment. She advised the public never to pay under pressure, to document evidence, call 191, and file complaints with the CPB immediately.

Injured Woman in Train-Bus Collision Denied Compensation and Lost 27,000 Baht on Day of Accident

A woman injured in a May 16 train-bus collision near Makkasan Airport Rail Link Station lost 27,000 baht in cash and was denied government compensation, despite hospitalization and subsequent medical costs. She was hit when the freight trai

21h ago Khaosod

A woman injured in the freight train collision with Route 206 bus was denied compensation and also lost a bag with 27,000 baht in cash at the accident scene. The incident occurred near Makkasan Airport Rail Link Station on May 16 at approximately 3:30 PM, resulting in 8 deaths and numerous injuries.

Ms. Chataporn Sae Kong, one of the injured passengers, filed a report with Makkasan Police on May 18 regarding her missing document bag and cash. She explained that she had withdrawn the money that morning to purchase a gold ring and was riding her motorcycle to Lotus Rama 4. She parked about three vehicles away from the bus, which was struck by the freight train. The impact caused the bus to collide with her parked motorcycle, resulting in minor injuries. Her motorcycle suffered slight damage, and her work bag with the cash disappeared.

The missing bag was white fabric with a blue strap, containing a black wallet and a black employee ID card labeled "Saem." She had hung it on her motorcycle's handlebar.

Regarding compensation, the hospital referred her to Justice Ministry officials. Preliminary discussions indicated she does not qualify for government assistance because her injuries were not severe enough to require hospitalization for 21 days. She had to pay for her own medications using private insurance. Additionally, her newly purchased motorcycle from May 11 was not yet registered, preventing her from filing an insurance claim. When she returned home, she experienced adverse drug reactions and had to pay over 1,000 baht in cash for follow-up treatment at the hospital.

She appealed for reconsideration of compensation policies, noting that while the deceased must be compensated, injured workers such as motorcycle taxi drivers hospitalized for several days are losing significant income and deserve equal consideration for compensation.
