Owner Releases 27 Buffalo to Graze, 4 Go Missing and Found Trapped in 3-Meter Deep Pit

Four buffalo fell into a 3-meter-deep pit in Nakhon Nayok after the owner released 27 to graze; a five-hour rescue operation successfully freed all animals, including a pregnant female that required a backhoe to widen the pit.

1d ago Khaosod

At 6 p.m. on May 17, 2026, 78-year-old Samphao Satree from Moo 6, Khao Phra Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nakhon Nayok Province, released 27 buffalo to graze in a rice paddy. However, four animals went missing. When the owner searched for them, he discovered all four had fallen into a 7-meter-wide, 3-meter-deep excavation pit and immediately contacted the subdistrict administrative office, village headman, and rescue volunteers for assistance.

When officials and volunteers arrived, they successfully pulled two young buffalo, each about 18 months old, out of the pit using ropes. The remaining two buffalo—a 4-year-old female and a 6-year-old pregnant female—remained stuck. Because the pregnant buffalo could not be safely extracted with ropes due to her condition, authorities requested a backhoe from the provincial administrative organization. The equipment was used to widen the pit's opening and create steps, allowing the pregnant buffalo to walk out on her own. The rescue operation took nearly five hours to safely retrieve all four animals.

Fay Pattara Opens Up About Indefinite Suspension of Gan Chatchanan: Admits Wrongdoing, Apologizes to Viewers

YouTuber Gan Chatchanan from the KARNFOEI channel faces indefinite suspension after supporting a controversial social media post, with team leader Fay Pattara admitting the decision was difficult but necessary, acknowledging that Gan unders

1d ago Khaosod

The drama between siblings "Tray Scot" and "Pie Sunistha" continues to dominate headlines as entertainment figures and influencers face criticism for liking their posts in a show of support. Many have issued public apologies. Gan Chatchanan, the popular YouTuber behind the KARNFOEI channel, posted a message opposing the backlash, viewing the likes merely as encouragement for friends.

Fay Pattara and the KARNFOEI team subsequently announced Gan's indefinite suspension and clarified that the comments represented personal opinions.

On May 17, 2569, Fay Pattara opened up about the situation at the 17th Natraj Awards ceremony.

Was the suspension decision made collectively by the team? "Yes, it was a joint decision between myself and the team. We informed Gan afterward."

How did Gan react when she learned of the suspension? "Not well. Let me explain something first. Actually, I learned about it yesterday evening around 10 p.m. when the secretary showed me. I was shocked because I wasn't satisfied with this action myself and didn't support it in the first place. But since she's abroad in a different time zone, it took a while to discuss things. We eventually spoke and warned her because this shouldn't have happened."

Did she provide any explanation for posting? "No, nothing. She already knew what she did and understood the consequences."

What feedback did she give when notified? "She wasn't angry. She acknowledged it. I'd call it a warning because neither I nor the team were very satisfied. She understood what she did and its potential impact."

How did she explain her perspective? "She didn't explain. She simply admitted she was wrong."

What specifically upset you most? "Many things, really. Our channel's communication goals, the choice of words, the lack of judgment in certain ways—I think everyone should see it the same way."

Was the decision difficult given your friendship? "We are friends, but wrong is wrong. I won't say it was comfortable; it was quite stressful."

Now there's feedback that the channel did nothing. What's your response? "I need to clarify that internal matters can't be decided rashly by me alone, as that would look reckless or impulsive. I needed time to discuss with everyone, find common ground, and determine the best way to address the situation."

Is she typically so impulsive? "She's someone who gets carried away by her own thoughts (laughs). We've been warning her about this all along. If viewers have seen the show, this time she's received a fairly significant lesson."

What's the plan going forward regarding her suspension? "There's no set timeline yet."

Is she still abroad or back in Thailand? "She's back and we've met and talked."

Do you still harbor resentment toward your friend over this incident?

Environment Minister Suchart Celebrates Khao Khiao Open Zoo's First-Ever Successful Hatching of Masked Finback Birds in Thailand After 40 Years of Extinction

Khao Khiao Open Zoo in Chachoengsao Province has successfully hatched a masked finback bird chick for the first time in Thailand, marking a major conservation breakthrough for a species extinct in the wild for over 40 years. The achievement

1d ago Khaosod

Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin announced on May 17, 2026, his delight after learning that Khao Khiao Open Zoo in Chachoengsao Province has successfully hatched a masked finback bird chick for the first time in Thailand. This marks a major conservation breakthrough for the country, as the species has been extinct in the wild for over 40 years.

The minister praised the achievement as a testament to the dedication and expertise of Thailand's wildlife conservation professionals, including the Organization of Thai Zoos, Khao Khiao Open Zoo, veterinary teams, and animal care staff who collaborated closely to safely bring the first chick to life.

According to Khao Khiao Open Zoo Director Narongwit Chadchoi from Sri Racha District, the successful hatching came from eggs of the only remaining breeding pair at the facility. Staff extracted and artificially incubated the eggs, then hand-reared the chick. Given that masked finback birds lay only 1-2 eggs per year with a naturally low hatching success rate, officials decided to implement a "life-saving operation" to maximize the chick's chances of survival—an effort that ultimately succeeded.

This chick represents the first masked finback bird successfully bred at Khao Khiao Open Zoo under the Organization of Thai Zoos, as well as the first such bird bred at any member zoo of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the Southeast Asian Zoo and Aquarium Association.

Khao Khiao Open Zoo is now the fourth facility in the world officially approved to breed masked finback birds in captivity, following the Bang Pra Water Bird Breeding Station in Thailand, Assam State Zoo in India, and Angkor Biodiversity Conservation Center in Cambodia.

"This success represents another important milestone for Thailand in conserving endangered wildlife and demonstrates the collaborative effort of all sectors in reviving critically endangered species populations," Minister Suchart stated. "The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment remains committed to supporting research and breeding programs for rare wildlife to maintain Thailand's biological diversity for future generations."

Van Driver in Psychotic State Swings Baseball Bat at Motorcycle, Sets It on Fire, Then Rampages Through Bang Bua Thong Guesthouse Smashing Windows

A van driver in a psychotic state attacked a motorcyclist with a baseball bat on Highway 340 early May 17, then rampaged through a Bang Bua Thong guesthouse smashing windows and appliances after surrendering to police.

1d ago Khaosod

On May 17, 2026, at approximately 3:50 AM, a 49-year-old goat herder named Prasert (surname withheld) was riding his motorcycle on Highway 340 heading back to his accommodation in Bang Bua Thong when a white van driven by 37-year-old Itthiphattana cut him off and forced him to stop. The van driver got out wielding a baseball bat, shouting "Who sent you?" repeatedly before attacking. Prasert fled into a nearby alley, and the van driver proceeded to smash his motorcycle with the bat and set it on fire. When Prasert learned the van driver had surrendered at a nearby guesthouse claiming it wasn't intentional, the man continued his rampage, using the baseball bat to smash windows and doors, then moving inside to destroy a 32-inch television and a rice cooker in the investigation room. Security footage from Bang Bua Thong Police Station confirmed the van driver arrived at 4:19 AM, bowed three times at the guesthouse entrance while shouting incoherently, then systematically damaged property. The van driver's employer, 64-year-old Boonmi, stated the man had worked as a company shuttle driver for only ten days after being referred by a friend who asked for help finding him a job following his unemployment.

Agriculture Minister Suriya Visits EEC, Directs All Agencies to Maximize Water Management Efficiency

Agriculture Minister Suriya inspected water management preparations across Chanthaburi and the Eastern Economic Corridor, directing agencies to maximize efficiency as the monsoon season approaches with potential El Niño effects.

1d ago Khaosod

Today (May 17, 2025), Agriculture Minister Suriya Jungrungruangkit, accompanied by Deputy Agriculture Minister Watcharapol Khaokhram and his delegation, conducted a field inspection of water management and monsoon season 2025 preparations in Chanthaburi Province at the Phlakdee Rampai Royal Water Drainage Project. The inspection was led by Irrigation Department Director-General Suriyphol Nuchonong, Deputy Director-General Thanon Suthipichai, and Thinakorn Lueorloen, Director of the 9th Regional Irrigation Office, along with representatives from various government agencies.

Current water levels in the six main reservoirs across Chanthaburi Province total approximately 189 million cubic meters, representing 50% of combined capacity. This provides ample storage space to accommodate rainfall expected between May and October while maintaining sufficient reserves for the upcoming dry season. Water management plans for the coming monsoon will balance current precipitation with adequate storage for future dry season needs.

The minister's delegation then proceeded to Prasaer Reservoir in Wang Chan District, Rayong Province, to monitor water management conditions in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) area encompassing Chachoengsao, Rayong, and Chonburi provinces. Currently, the EEC region holds approximately 505 million cubic meters of water, or 37% of total reservoir capacity. Close weather monitoring has detected potential El Niño effects that may result in below-average rainfall in certain periods. The Royal Irrigation Department has implemented contingency measures by diverting water between various sources and storing it in interconnected reservoirs throughout the EEC. More than 27 million cubic meters have already been transferred to enhance water security and meet the needs of residents, industry, and agriculture while reducing future water shortage risks.

The Agriculture Minister has directed all relevant agencies to closely monitor weather patterns and water conditions, while preparing machinery, equipment, and personnel to provide rapid assistance to affected communities, thereby minimizing potential impacts.
