Following a freight train collision with BMTA bus Route 206 near Makkasan railway crossing on Asok-Din Daeng Road that killed 8 people and injured approximately 25 others, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) expressed deep condolences on May 17, 2025. The organization stated it takes full responsibility and will provide comprehensive assistance in accordance with humanitarian principles and legal fairness without any evasion.
Transport Deputy Minister Siripong Angsakulgiert, BMTA Director Kittikan Chomduan Jaruworpalkul, and executive management immediately went to the scene to coordinate response efforts. They coordinated with emergency rescue services, hospitals, and police to expedite treatment for the injured and arranged passenger transfers at Hualamphong Station.
The BMTA has coordinated with disaster relief agencies and all relevant authorities to compile complete victim information. It has directed coordination with Muang Thai Insurance Company and the Motor Vehicle Accident Victim Protection Fund to cover medical expenses and expedite compensation payments with the following initial compensation framework:
- Deceased victims: 1,500,000 baht per person - Injured victims: Initial assistance of 80,000 baht per person up to maximum compensation of 500,000 baht per person
The BMTA is closely monitoring victim identification and contacting families to facilitate rapid compensation payment. Management plans to visit all injured persons in hospitals to provide assistance, moral support, and demonstrate full responsibility. Additionally, the BMTA will conduct a comprehensive safety review of all its routes in Bangkok and five surrounding provinces (Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, and Nakhon Pathom), coupled with strict discipline enforcement for all drivers.
The Prime Minister has instructed the BMTA and all relevant agencies to integrate their efforts in caring for the injured and bereaved families while accelerating compensation payment processes quickly and fairly.
