The body of a man swept out to sea at Inton Beach in Thalang district, Phuket has been recovered after an estimated two days in the water. The corpse shows signs of abrasion across the body, and authorities are preparing to contact relatives for identification.
The incident began when an unidentified man went swimming at Inton Beach in Subdistrict Saku, Thalang District, Phuket, before being swept into the sea by strong waves exceeding two meters during rough weather conditions.
Lifeguards stationed at Inton Beach attempted a full rescue effort but were unable to reach him in time due to powerful currents, resulting in his disappearance. He left behind a bronze Toyota Camry with Chiang Rai license plates at the beach. The incident occurred on May 15.
At 6:30 AM on May 17, 2025, Deputy Inspector Koraphumipat Phongpaibun of Saku Police Station received a report from local residents that a body had washed ashore near Pho Tao Lato Shrine in Subdistrict Saku. He and Police Captain Salan Santisasakun, along with a forensic doctor from Vachira Hospital Phuket, proceeded to investigate.
Inspection revealed the deceased was a middle-aged Thai man with dark complexion, wearing only black underwear. The body was bloated with abrasion marks across it. Preliminary examination suggested he had been dead approximately two days.
The abrasion marks were caused by the body being swept and rolled in sand and sea water. The body was handed over to Phuket Goodwill Rescue Foundation and sent for detailed autopsy at Vachira Hospital Phuket.
Initial findings suggest the deceased is Constable Thaphan Pappap, age 25, a sergeant investigating officer at a police station in Phang Nga Province. Authorities will contact his relatives to confirm identification and personal details before releasing the body for religious funeral rites.
