A woman injured in the freight train collision with Route 206 bus was denied compensation and also lost a bag with 27,000 baht in cash at the accident scene. The incident occurred near Makkasan Airport Rail Link Station on May 16 at approximately 3:30 PM, resulting in 8 deaths and numerous injuries.
Ms. Chataporn Sae Kong, one of the injured passengers, filed a report with Makkasan Police on May 18 regarding her missing document bag and cash. She explained that she had withdrawn the money that morning to purchase a gold ring and was riding her motorcycle to Lotus Rama 4. She parked about three vehicles away from the bus, which was struck by the freight train. The impact caused the bus to collide with her parked motorcycle, resulting in minor injuries. Her motorcycle suffered slight damage, and her work bag with the cash disappeared.
The missing bag was white fabric with a blue strap, containing a black wallet and a black employee ID card labeled "Saem." She had hung it on her motorcycle's handlebar.
Regarding compensation, the hospital referred her to Justice Ministry officials. Preliminary discussions indicated she does not qualify for government assistance because her injuries were not severe enough to require hospitalization for 21 days. She had to pay for her own medications using private insurance. Additionally, her newly purchased motorcycle from May 11 was not yet registered, preventing her from filing an insurance claim. When she returned home, she experienced adverse drug reactions and had to pay over 1,000 baht in cash for follow-up treatment at the hospital.
She appealed for reconsideration of compensation policies, noting that while the deceased must be compensated, injured workers such as motorcycle taxi drivers hospitalized for several days are losing significant income and deserve equal consideration for compensation.
