Diverse Vehicles – BYD Seele 6 EV: A Family-Oriented Sedan That's Smooth, Quiet, and Relaxed to Drive Without Emphasis on Power
BYD's new Seele 6 EV sedan prioritizes comfort and smooth driving for families over performance, featuring a quiet cabin, 485-kilometer range, and responsive acceleration without jerky motion. The rear-wheel-drive sedan delivered 160 kilowa
At the recent motor show, BYD stood out as one of the automakers launching the most new models, presenting four vehicles simultaneously covering all market segments. Among these is the Seele 6, the latest EV sedan worthy of considerable interest.
We reached out to Tuk Buddhachad Saensasam, PR Director at Reve Automotive, BYD's distributor and marketer, for a test drive and were granted immediate access to the top PREMIUM variant. The model is equipped with an electric motor delivering 160 kilowatts of maximum power and 330 Newton-meters of maximum torque, with rear-wheel drive. The BYD Blade battery provides 56.4 kilowatt-hours of capacity and a maximum range of 485 kilometers. The design features a Dragon Face front with Dual LED headlights, flowing side lines that gracefully extend to a coupe-style sloping rear, 18-inch alloy wheels, an electrically operated panoramic sunroof, and a horizontal light bar spanning the entire rear—all hallmarks of a well-designed EV.
The interior features an 8.8-inch LCD driver display, though the text is somewhat small and requires careful reading. A 12.8-inch touchscreen multimedia system includes wireless smartphone charging, though its positioning presents some risk of items sliding off during sharp turns. The front seats offer ventilation to help dissipate heat during hot weather.
One pleasant surprise upon entering the vehicle is a button to activate the car—a nice safety feature preventing accidental activation, unlike many other EVs that require only braking to become operational.
Departing from the main office on Rama I Road during peak traffic, the sedan's quiet cabin and maneuverability make navigating congestion stress-free. Notably, unlike typical EVs, this model exhibits minimal jerking on acceleration and minimal lag when releasing the throttle—almost comparable to a conventional combustion engine. This eliminates motion sickness concerns and inspires confident driving.
With approximately 70% battery remaining, we didn't focus on consumption figures, unaware of the previous driver's driving style. We'd recalculate after a full charge.
The motor's power is instantly responsive in typical EV fashion. Overtaking is effortless, and the side-mirror adjustment buttons on the door panels are a thoughtful addition—allowing real-time angle adjustments without accessing the screen. The climate control, while requiring the touchscreen, includes convenient shortcuts without deep menu diving.
We stopped at a 150-kilowatt fast-charging station. Although the Seele 6 specs list 100-kilowatt charging capability, real-world testing showed approximately 75 kilowatts despite being the sole vehicle charging. This extended charging time from 20% to 90% battery to over 30 minutes.
Heading out of the city and gradually accelerating, there's no dramatic thrust—likely reflecting its family sedan character without emphasis on raw speed and power. At moderate speeds of 100-120 km/h, the suspension delivers a soft, refined ride over potholes and uneven surfaces. Acceleration remains solid and composed. However, at higher speeds, some wavering and floating sensations emerge...
