On May 16, 2026, the Democrat Party officially unveiled Anucha Burupachai as its Bangkok Governor candidate with the slogan 'Bangkok: City of Angels, More Convenient, Cleaner, Comfortable.' Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, flanked by senior party members including Sakolthee Pattiyakul, Korn Chatikvaniwich, Kalee Liawpairojn, and Chaivatthana Bannavutti, presented the candidate alongside former Bangkok administrators from previous Democrat-affiliated administrations.
Anucha Burupachai is a former Bangkok MP from the Democrat Party, former government spokesman during General Prayut Chan-o-cha's administration, and a former party list candidate for Pheu Thai. The party also officially announced 50 Bangkok Metropolitan Council candidates across all districts.
Sakolthee, serving as MC, expressed relief at finally revealing the candidate after two weeks of media and family inquiries. He joked about the secrecy, noting that even his parents didn't know and asked him daily during meals, suspecting he might run himself.
Abhisit emphasized the Democrat Party's commitment to Bangkok governance, highlighting the party's extensive personnel with expertise and deep connections to Bangkok residents. He stressed teamwork and shared responsibility across all levels and regions. Noting that despite recent electoral setbacks, the party remains committed to serving Bangkok's people, he pointed to past achievements including bringing BTS skytrain to the Thonburi side and developing infrastructure projects like the giant water tunnel.
Abhisit also commented on current Governor Chadchart Sittipunt's self-assessment of 5 out of 10, suggesting he would rate higher, crediting Chadchart's intentions and attention to public concerns.
