Wife Devastated as Lightning Kills Husband, Two Friends Injured—She Recounts Ominous Premonition

A 69-year-old man died after being struck by lightning while sheltering under a tree during heavy rain in Udon Thani's Non Saad District on May 18; two neighbors were injured in the same incident.

22h ago Khaosod

On May 18, 2025, Pismai, 62, the wife of Suna, 69, was devastated by her husband's sudden death. Suna died after being struck by lightning in a cassava grove near Ban Non Samran village in Non Saad District, Udon Thani, along with two neighbors, Wilai and Thinakorn, who suffered serious injuries. The three men had sought shelter under a large sadue tree during heavy rain while working in the rice fields when lightning struck suddenly. Suna was found dead beneath the tree with a stainless steel glass lodged near his midsection, and a pickup truck parked nearby. Officials suspect the glass—a conductive metal object the victim was holding—may have attracted the lightning strike directly to his body. Pismai recalled that just 2-3 days earlier, a neighbor had mentioned dreaming of many people gathering at their home, never imagining it would become her husband's funeral. Meanwhile, Wilai's wife reported that both injured men are recovering well. Nон Saad Hospital transferred them to Udon Thani Center Hospital, where doctors are monitoring them closely while restricting food and water intake. Overall, both patients have passed the critical stage and are showing significant improvement.

Football Fixtures May 18, 2025: Arsenal Must Beat Burnley to Stay on Track

Arsenal hosts already-relegated Burnley in a crucial Premier League match tonight at 2:00 a.m., with the table-leading Gunners needing a win to maintain their title push.

22h ago Khaosod

Tonight's Premier League slate features only one match, but it's a pivotal contest as Arsenal must win when hosting already-relegated Burnley. The fixture kicks off at 2:00 a.m. and will be broadcast live on Monormax. The Gunners open the Emirates Stadium to welcome the Clarets.

Both teams have played 36 matches. Arsenal has won 24, drawn 7, and lost 5 for 79 points, leading the table and needing a victory to strengthen their title chances. Burnley has won just 4, drawn 9, and lost 23 for 21 points, sitting second from bottom and already relegated.

In their last five league matches, Arsenal lost to Bournemouth 1-2 (home) and Manchester City 1-2 (away), but beat Newcastle United 1-0 (home), Fulham 3-0 (home), and West Ham United 1-0 (away). Burnley lost to Brighton 0-2 (home), Nottingham Forest 1-4 (away), Manchester City 0-1 (home), and Leeds United 1-3 (away), while drawing 2-2 with Aston Villa (home).

In their last five meetings, Arsenal remain unbeaten with four wins and one draw. They already defeated Burnley 2-0 away earlier this season.

Arsenal will be without Miguel Merino, Jurrien Timber, and Ben White (injured), with Ricardo Calafiori's fitness to be checked. Burnley are missing Jordan Beyer, Josh Cullen, and Connor Roberts (injured), and must assess Hannibal Mejbri's availability.

Arsenal are expected to field a 4-2-3-1 formation: David Raya; Cristian Mospuara, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ricardo Calafiori; Declan Rice, Miles Lewis-Skelly; Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Leandro Trossard; Victor Jekerez.

Burnley will likely use a 4-2-3-1: Martin Dubravka; Kyle Walker, Axel Tuanzebe, Maxime Esteve, Lucas Pires; James Ward-Prowse, Florentino Luis; Liam Delap, Lyle Ugochukwu, Jaden Anthony; Siaan Fleming.

Despite Arsenal facing immense pressure, their squad's superior quality over Burnley suggests the hosts should secure victory.

Military Region 1 Clarifies Ranger Clash with Sarakaew Villager Over Drug Suspect's Escape with Weapon

A 37-year-old man was injured during a ranger operation in Sa Kaeo province on May 11 when he resisted arrest while carrying methamphetamine; the military has launched an investigation after his family alleged abuse.

23h ago Khaosod

On May 18, 2025, Military Region 1 released a clarification statement following reports that residents of Nong Ya Kaew subdistrict were seeking justice for a local who was injured during an encounter with ranger officials investigating a drug-related case. The incident occurred in the border area between Nong Samet and Nong Ya Kaew subdistricts in Kok Sung district, Sa Kaeo province on May 11.

According to the military's investigation, on May 10 at 10:30 p.m., the 1204th Ranger Company was conducting border surveillance operations when they identified Suratne Chob Sara Noi, 37, a Nong Ya Kaew resident, displaying suspicious behavior. When asked to comply and submit to a search, Suratne resisted and attempted to flee. During the subsequent pursuit and apprehension, Suratne wielded a machete, resulting in a scuffle that left him injured. Rangers discovered 21 methamphetamine tablets in his pocket and 1,300 baht in cash. Suratne confessed the drugs were his own.

On May 14, Suratne was hospitalized at Kok Sung Hospital with abdominal pain and vomiting blood, later transferred to Aranyaprathet Hospital. His family filed a complaint with Kok Sung Police Station alleging ranger abuse. The incident prompted some villagers to demand action against the officers involved.

The Rangers' parent unit, the 12th Ranger Regiment, established a fact-finding committee and has preliminarily reassigned the involved rangers from the area to ensure fairness. Officials stated that if wrongdoing is confirmed, disciplinary and legal action will follow. The unit has visited Suratne twice and provided financial assistance. The drug case remains under police investigation with ongoing inquiries into related networks.

Military Region 1 expressed regret over the incident and reaffirmed its policy against excessive force. The command urged local residents to cooperate by reporting illegal activities to authorities.

Supamas Orders Probe Into EV Fire Incident, Demands Company Explanation on May 21; Pushes Recall of 1,668 Vehicles in Thailand

A vehicle fire at a consumer's home on May 15 prompted Thailand's Consumer Protection Board to demand explanations from an EV manufacturer on May 21 regarding a battery defect affecting 1,668 recalled vehicles nationwide.

Supamas Orders Probe Into EV Fire Incident, Demands Company Explanation on May 21; Pushes Recall of 1,668 Vehicles in Thailand; Consumer Protection Committee to Consider Civil Lawsuit Against Company and Distributor.

On May 18, 2025, Patcharin Samsiripong, Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office, announced that Supamas Iserapakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office and overseeing the Consumer Protection Board (CPB), has ordered an EV manufacturer to provide clarification on facts and operational plans on May 21, 2025 at CPB headquarters.

This action comes after an electric vehicle caught fire while charging at a consumer's home on May 15, 2025 at approximately 9:00 p.m. Pradeemchai Boonchooaylue, an advisor to the Prime Minister, will chair the meeting alongside Ranrong Poolphipat, Secretary-General of the Consumer Protection Board, to protect all 1,668 consumers in Thailand whose vehicles are subject to battery replacement recalls.

Patcharin explained that the EV company had issued a notice about preventive measures regarding potential battery overheating if charging exceeds 70 percent of battery capacity, and had temporarily advised customers to limit charging to 70 percent. The company has suspended sales temporarily, and 45 consumers have filed complaints with the CPB. However, consumers have not yet received battery replacements, and a fire has now occurred—demonstrating that the "do not charge beyond 70 percent" measure is insufficient.

Minister Supamas has instructed the CPB to investigate the facts and escalate consumer protection measures immediately, in line with the government's policy under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's leadership, which prioritizes safety for EV consumers.

Patcharin further stated that according to CPB's complaint system data from 2008 through May 13, 2025, consumers have raised concerns about vehicle fires across multiple brands. The CPB has received seven vehicle fire complaints, resolving five through negotiated settlements and mediation. Two cases remain under investigation for potential civil lawsuits. This shows the CPB monitors vehicle fires without discrimination, but this case represents a systemic issue affecting 1,668 consumers, requiring higher-level legal mechanisms beyond individual mediation.

Patcharin noted that the May 21, 2025 meeting will require the EV company to address three main points: first, a clear timeline for recalling and replacing batteries in all 1,668 vehicles; second, compensation measures for consumers while awaiting battery replacement; and third, clarification on the cause of the recent fire.

Regarding legal action, the CPB will exercise authority to order the company to test or verify the product and submit results within 30 days. The CPB has also presented the complaints to a subcommittee for initial review and will propose to the Consumer Protection Committee to pursue civil litigation against the company and distributor to recover the vehicle purchase price plus interest for 45 consumers, following proper procedures.

"Minister Supamas emphasized that Thursday's meeting is a critical test for the EV company to demonstrate responsibility to Thai consumers who paid millions of baht for electric vehicles but can only charge them to 70 percent and risk their lives and property. The minister will not allow consumers to bear this burden," Patcharin concluded.

Food Waste as New Revenue Stream: Business Management Association Advises on Opportunities

Thailand's Business Management Association says food producers can generate new revenue by converting waste—which can comprise up to 50% of raw materials—into high-value products like supplements and cosmetics using powder engineering techn

23h ago Khaosod

Food waste can generate value, according to the Thai Business Management Association, which views it not merely as waste reduction but as transforming surplus into new income. In every food industry production process, what many consider "food waste" can comprise up to half of all raw materials, yet it is rarely fully utilized.

The TMA Agri-Food Community, under the Thai Business Management Association (TMA), recognized hidden opportunities and organized the Agri-Food Forward Meetup #2: Waste to Value through Powder Engineering to explore the potential of excess resources from production processes. Rather than viewing these as mere disposal burdens, they can be transformed into "new revenue sources" if the right technology and perspective are applied. Tri Rat Tuksoskul, Managing Director of T.S.K. Engineering Company and founder of Powder Technical Center ASEAN (PTC ASEAN), shared insights from over 20 years of experience developing industrial-scale production systems.

Currently, the food industry's waste-to-value approach reveals substantial untapped resources. By-products average 50%, with seafood processing industries producing 30-70% waste and fruit processing generating 50-60% waste from pomace and seeds. However, most of these by-products are currently used for low-value applications such as animal feed or fertilizer, despite significant potential for value-added development.

Powder Engineering technology plays a crucial role in transforming by-products into high-value items through converting both solids and liquids into powder form with particle design and spherical shapes, making them easy to dissolve, store longer, and ready for immediate use.

By-product challenges such as rapid spoilage, short shelf life, and difficult liquid waste treatment can be developed into diverse industrial applications including food, health, cosmetics, and advanced materials, increasing product quality several-fold. Real examples include fish bones—converted from cheap fish meal for animal feed into bio-calcium supplements for humans or natural hydroxyapatite for medical-grade bone implants and dental implants worth millions of baht per kilogram; agricultural waste or vegetable scraps—transformed into functional fiber or prebiotics for health supplements and beverages; eggshells—previously discarded as fertilizer or animal feed, now processed by extracting the inner membrane containing collagen and protein related to joints and skin, spray-dried into powder, while the shell is roasted to produce bio-calcium for human supplements, calcium drinks, pharmaceuticals, drug carriers, and cosmetics; and tuna cooking water—formerly used as animal feed but now converted into flavor and concentrated nutrients through spray drying into ready-to-use powder or fish-flavoring compounds for animal feed.

Transforming by-products into higher-value goods (Waste to Value) not only reduces industrial waste but also opens new opportunities.

Greet Wrintra Opens Up About Illness from Overwork, Reveals Elevated Stress Hormones but Insists Mental Health is Fine – Heart Status Still Available, Wants to Remain a Rare Item

Most recently on May 18, Greet Wrintra attended a press conference launching the campaign "Extending Time for Fun, Extending Time for Friends" at Parade Building, 2nd Floor, Aree Football One Bangkok, updating his life during this period. Greet admitted that he has been taking better care of himself lately after working hard and exercising so much that he got insufficient rest, which made him unwell for several days, but his condition has improved now.

He revealed that he went for a health checkup and found his stress hormone levels were elevated from doing too many things in his daily life, so he is trying to balance himself by reducing strenuous activities, getting enough sleep, and reorganizing his schedule. He confirmed his mental health is fine and not worried about depression. Regarding his love life, nobody has come in yet, asking to remain a rare item for now.

On looking handsome and taking care of himself: "I'm taking better care of myself, but I'll say that a lot of people aren't feeling well right now. I personally haven't been feeling well either. You could say last week I worked a lot and also exercised. I want to say that taking care of yourself also requires rest. Health is important, and the weather has been changing too. I also haven't been feeling well for several days like others, but I'm better now."

What kind of illness? "At first I was a bit delirious, especially when I saw news about a new virus, I was scared too, but luckily after resting for two days I gradually got better. I had a slight fever and a bit of a stuffy nose."

How are you being more careful? "In my case, I still wear masks as much as I can. And I think sleeping well helps. Sleep a lot, don't overwork or over-exercise. Just do what feels right. I think that's enough self-care."

Did you previously say your hormones were damaged? "You could say I do a lot of things. It's not damaged to that extent, but I think it's better to get a health checkup. I went for a checkup and found my stress hormones were elevated. I compared it with my own behavior and it makes sense. Okay, sometimes I sleep well but some days I do too many activities, and my body gets stressed, my brain works hard, so that's part of why it's elevated. I need to balance myself better."

What things do you need to stop doing? "In my case, I don't do multiple activities each day that are overdone. Personally, I'm someone who plans things like finishing this task by this time, then going somewhere else. I like planning, so I need to give myself some flexibility."

Many people worry that high stress could lead to depression. How do you see it? "Personally, I see it as more about managing one's mind. If I had depression today, I don't think I'd reach that point for sure. But I think when you're doing a lot of things and using your brain for a lot, you just need to know yourself. I can tell others this, but I need to tell myself too. Just manage your life schedule well, then you won't stress, stress less, and rest more. Exercise in a balanced way."

Are you afraid of the word depression? "For me, I'm not afraid of depression. I'm more afraid of myself not wanting to rest much. My mental health is fine, but my physical health might not be that great right now. I'm recovering."

What about your heart? "My heart is strong. Nobody has come in. (Is it unclear?) Nobody yet. I want to be a rare item. Just joking. Right now I can't even manage myself, so I can't look after others. Once I take good care of myself, then I can care for others."

Has everyone from our generation gotten taken already? "I'm still struggling right now. My friends are all sold out. I'm congratulating them. I'm putting some likes out there. They're encouraging, which is nice. People ask me when, and I say whenever it happens, it happens."

Railway Union Pushes Back Against Transport Department Over Train Driver Licensing, Clarifies Braking Distance at Only 200 Meters

The railway union disputes transport department claims about train driver licensing and braking distance following a fatal May accident, clarifying the involved train required only 200 meters to stop, not 2 kilometers.

1d ago Khaosod

The State Enterprise Workers' Union of the Thai Railways (SRT Union) has issued a statement affirming the facts to ensure public understanding of train driver licensing and worker protections under the transitional provisions of the 2568 Rail Transport Act. Following the tragic accident involving Freight Train 2126 colliding with Route 206 bus at the Asok-Din Daeng railway crossing on May 16, 2569, resulting in deaths and numerous injuries, the SRT Union expresses sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and injured. While the true facts and causes of the accident are undergoing detailed investigation by relevant authorities, the union notes that some misinformation has circulated. The union clarifies that when the Rail Transport Department's director stated on May 17, 2569 that "the train operator involved had not yet received an operator license from the Rail Transport Department and has been suspended from duty," this incomplete information created confusion about rail workers' operational systems and caused widespread public misunderstanding that Thai Railways employees were working illegally without proper qualifications. The SRT Union, representing railway workers, must clarify the factual and legal position to protect worker dignity and public understanding.

1. Regarding the director's media statement that the train must engage brakes 2 kilometers before the stop point: this is incorrect. For a train to stop efficiently, locomotive condition, train consist weight, and other factors must be considered. On the day in question, the train had 578 units, traveled at no more than 40 km/h, and had a normal stopping distance of approximately 200 meters, not 2 kilometers.

2. Before the 2568 Rail Transport Act took effect, all Thai Railways train operators underwent proper screening, training, testing, and appointment to their positions according to law and Thai Railways Regulation No. 3.1, issued under authority of Section 25(3) of the 2494 Thai Railways Act. All personnel have consistently undergone standardized vetting with legal backing.

3. Although the 2568 Rail Transport Act was published in the Royal Gazette on December 27, 2568 and took effect on March 27, 2569, Section 156 of the transitional provisions clearly protects and supports the rights of existing train operators, allowing them to continue performing duties during the transition period to the new licensing system without creating operational gaps or disrupting public rail services.
