44-Year-Old Man Confesses to Raping and Killing Female Neighbor, Claims It Was Suicide; Police Skeptical as He's Caught Fleeing
A 44-year-old man arrested in Kanchanaburi confessed to raping and murdering his female neighbor, then staging her body as a suicide in a forest; police skeptical of his claim as he was caught attempting to flee.
On May 16, 2025, a 45-year-old woman's body was discovered in a forest area behind a sugar mill in Ban Kao subdistrict, Muang district, Kanchanaburi Province, four days after she went missing. Her relatives filed a report with Muang Kanchanaburi Police Station, and authorities launched an investigation and circulated a missing person alert.
Investigating officers from Muang Kanchanaburi Police Station apprehended Somrit, 44, a neighbor who rented a room near the victim's residence. After intensive interrogation lasting several hours, he confessed to raping the victim, beating her repeatedly, and strangling her with a rope before tying her body to a tree to stage a suicide.
Somrit claimed that on the day of the incident, he tricked his wife into riding a motorcycle to pick up the victim from her home and bring her to the forest. He then sent his wife away before committing the assault and murder, staging it as a suicide. When he learned someone had discovered the body, he attempted to flee but was arrested before he could escape. Police noted that the suspect and victim had frequently drunk together and quarreled regularly, accumulating grievances over time.
Authorities have filed charges and are conducting a thorough investigation. Police also brought in Somrit's wife for questioning to determine whether she was complicit in the crime and to pursue further legal action.
