Arsenal Wins as Expected After Home Victory Over Burnley – Five Points Clear
Arsenal defeated already-relegated Burnley 1-0 at home to extend their Premier League lead to five points, with Kai Havertz scoring in the first half.
In an English Premier League match on May 18, Arsenal, currently topping the table, hosted visiting Burnley. Arsenal were in pursuit of the championship, while Burnley sat 19th and were already mathematically relegated.
Arsenal broke the deadlock in the first half with a goal from a corner kick. Bukayo Saka provided the assist for Kai Havertz, who finished in the 37th minute to make it 1-0 before halftime.
The second half saw a tense moment when Havertz made a hard challenge on Lesly Okomuchu. VAR reviewed the incident to determine whether it warranted a red card for a dangerous tackle, but the referee ultimately ruled it was not a sending-off offense, leaving both teams with 11 players on the pitch.
No further goals were scored, and Arsenal secured a 1-0 victory over Burnley. With 82 points from 37 matches, Arsenal remained in first place and maintained a five-point lead over Manchester City in second, though City had played only 36 games at that point.
