Man in Distressed State Jumps in Front of Bus, Claims Mental Breakdown from Military Training; Hospitalized After Violent Incident
A 31-year-old man jumped in front of a bus in Samut Prakan on April 29, 2025, claiming mental breakdown from past military training trauma. He apologized to the driver but subsequently became violent at the hospital, attacking staff and attempting further self-harm. The incident is under investigation pending hospital staff's decision on whether to file charges.
At 6:00 PM on April 29, 2025, the Samut Prakan Provincial Rescue Center received a report of a man running and jumping in front of a bus in Muang Mai housing community, Bang Saothong Sub-district, Bang Saothong District, Samut Prakan Province. Rescue volunteers and Bang Saothong Police Station personnel responded to assist.
At the scene, officers found 31-year-old Yongyuth (surname withheld) with abrasions across his body and a headache. Rescue teams provided initial first aid before transporting him to Bangna 2 Hospital. A Bangkok-registered employee transport bus sustained damage to its front windshield from the collision.
When questioned, Yongyuth claimed he caused the incident due to mental distress and anxiety stemming from military training trauma he experienced years earlier, which he said caused brain damage, ringing ears, and confusion. He stated he had slept poorly the previous night and had not consumed alcohol.
Bus driver Somsak, 36, reported that he was transporting employees when Yongyuth suddenly ran and jumped, hitting the front windshield and cracking it. Upon stopping to check, Yongyuth raised his hand in apology and said, "I'm sorry, I lost control."
However, upon arrival at Bangna 2 Hospital, Yongyuth experienced another episode of distress, attempting to jump in front of vehicles and attacking ambulance personnel and hospital staff. He had to be physically restrained and tied to a chair. Hospital officials were being consulted regarding whether to press charges against him.
