McFarlane Confident Chelsea Can Bounce Back – Sympathizes with Sacked Rosenior
Interim manager Calum McFarlane backs Chelsea to recover after Liam Rosenior's sacking, despite the team's worst scoring record in 114 years and five consecutive league losses that dropped them to 8th place.
Interim Chelsea manager Calum McFarlane is confident the team can turn things around while sympathizing with sacked manager Liam Rosenior. Chelsea made the managerial change after firing Rosenior on April 22, despite him being in the role for less than four months. During his tenure, the team delivered a disappointing performance, suffering five consecutive league defeats and failing to score—the worst scoring record in the club's 114-year history. This dismal run saw Chelsea drop to 8th place in the Premier League and left them uncertain about securing a UEFA Champions League spot for next season.
McFarlane, who previously managed Chelsea in one match—a 1-1 draw against Manchester City—and was part of Rosenior's coaching staff, will oversee the team for the remainder of the season. Ahead of the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United on April 26, McFarlane discussed the challenges ahead: "We need to ensure our players are ready to counter Leeds' strengths and expose their weaknesses."
"We remain very confident," McFarlane said. "I know recent times have been difficult, but we've had many good matches this year with strong performances against top sides. We have tremendous talent and the confidence to turn this around and get back on track."
McFarlane also expressed sympathy for Rosenior's departure: "I've spoken with Liam since he left. I have great respect for the former manager and it's unfortunate things didn't work out as we'd hoped."
