Japanese Man Steals Motorcycle, Returns for Second One Only to Be Tackled by Shop Owners
A Japanese man was arrested in Phayao after stealing a motorcycle and returning to the same shop to steal another, where residents tackled him before police arrived.
On May 15, Deputy Superintendent Nathakitti Jumduang of Mueang Phayao Police Station responded to a motorcycle theft report involving a black and blue Honda Wave 110i. Upon arrival, officers found residents already restraining Hiroki Kamiyama, a 38-year-old Japanese national. The suspect was found carrying no identification documents and was taken into custody for further investigation.
According to witnesses, Kamiyama had stolen the motorcycle belonging to 48-year-old Prapaphan, which had been left with the key in the ignition. He fled the scene on the stolen bike. He later returned to the same location and attempted to steal another parked motorcycle, but the shop owners and the victim recognized him. They chased him down and physically restrained him before alerting police.
Local residents suspect the suspect may be a scammer or someone fleeing into the area. They theorize he may have run out of money and turned to theft. Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
