Police and local administration are urgently investigating a cruel act of animal poisoning in which five stray dogs were found dead scattered along a road. A food vendor caring for 19 strays has lost five to the poison, with four survivors and the remaining ten presumed dead. On April 25, 2569, Kraieng Kongwong, Cha-am District Officer in Phetchaburi Province, assigned officials including Priyapol Priyanupap, deputy district chief, veterinarian Nithinan Nakburi, and investigating officers from Cha-am Police Station to investigate the poisoning case that occurred on April 24.
49-year-old Areeratana, a food cart vendor, stated she uses her earnings from selling prepared food to buy food and hay for 19 stray dogs and 15 buffalo she rescued from slaughterhouses. She has owned the property for four years. Of the 19 dogs in her care, five have died, which she believes were poisoned due to symptoms including foaming saliva and muscle rigidity. Four dogs survived, while the remaining ten are presumed dead but their bodies have not been found.
Officals provided recommendations on stray dog management and animal protection laws. The five poisoned dog carcasses were cremated to prevent disease transmission. The district veterinary office will send staff to provide animal health care, while police will increase patrols in the area to ensure safety and security, and investigate to prosecute the person responsible.
