No Major Shake-up: Natthapon Remains Party Leader as Picharn Takes Secretary-General Post, Aiming for Seamless Coordination Between Local and Parliamentary Work

Pheu Thai Party appointed Picharn Chaowapatvanont as secretary-general on April 26, with party leader Natthapon remaining in position, aiming to coordinate parliamentary and grassroots work to solve public issues as an opposition party.

26 Apr Khaosod

At 11:50 a.m. on April 26, 2026, at Maple Hotel in Bangkok, Natthapon Rueangpanya, party list MP and Pheu Thai Party leader, announced that the party's annual general assembly approved Picharn Chaowapatvanont as party secretary-general. Suthawan Subban Na Ayutthaya, former Nakhon Pathom MP, was appointed to the party executive committee, while Phakamon Nunanant, party list MP, became party spokesman. All confirmed their readiness to work full-time.

Picharn stated that as the new secretary-general, he would implement decisions from party meetings and prioritize human resource development across all party units. He emphasized that all party activities should benefit the people. He called for coordination between parliamentarians, provincial teams, and networks to work seamlessly both inside and outside parliament, using legal knowledge and parliamentary mechanisms to solve people's problems as an opposition party.

When asked about accelerating MP candidate selection and addressing qualification issues, Picharn explained that candidates who could be quickly endorsed would have stronger teams and greater capacity to work in their areas, paving the way toward elections.

Regarding pressure about accepting the secretary-general position—described as the party's brain—Picharn said pressure was irrelevant; rather, when the party gave him their trust, he had a duty to drive objectives. He saw the current judicial crisis as an opportunity to work effectively through the ten MPs not under suspension orders.

On preventing internal politics and position-grabbing, Picharn said party units must understand their shared goal: improving people's lives and creating a better Thailand. If everyone focused on that objective, all obstacles and conflicts could be overcome.

After the announcement, Pheu Thai supporters presented a "Conquer Evil—People's Version" talisman and oranges in a transparent box to Natthapon and Picharn. When reporters asked if the oranges resembled those in Prime Minister Anutthin Charnvirakul's office at Government House, Natthapon only smiled and laughed without answering.

Doctor and High-Society Woman File Complaint Against Famous Brand Name Shop Owner for Embezzling Consignment Deposits for Luxury Goods Sales

A prominent socialite and doctor joined other victims in filing a police complaint against a husband-and-wife luxury goods shop owners accused of embezzling millions of baht in consignment deposits and personal loans over several years.

26 Apr Khaosod

On April 26, 2569, Ms. Pathom Bundech, a well-known high-society celebrity and daughter of former Senate member Prasangsak Bundech, led a group of victims from various professions—doctors, dentists, and prominent businesspeople—to meet with police officials to file a complaint against Ms. Nate and Mr. Pong (aliases), a husband-and-wife duo who own a famous online luxury brand shop. The victims allege they were victimized by an elaborate, years-long scheme known locally as "complete swindling."

Initially, the victims consigned designer items such as watches, handbags, and jewelry to the shop and received payment normally. However, the couple later began using manipulative tactics, borrowing money repeatedly and accepting high-end consignment items but failing to remit payments when sold. Customers had transferred funds into the couple's bank account, yet the defendants fabricated stories about items going missing or being seized by customs, despite having original receipts from online retailers. Some items were later discovered being pawned and resold online. The couple also forged payment transfer receipts.

Ms. Pathom reported that her personal items involved in the scheme include Rolex Land Dweller 40 and Rolex Sprite watches belonging to her and her father, totaling 16 items worth over 6 million baht. Additionally, the couple fraudulently borrowed nearly 10 million baht. In another case, they received nearly 2 million baht for merchandise orders but claimed the account was frozen, when in fact they spent the money personally, leaving only 7 baht in the account.

Another victim, Dr. Tib, stated she met the couple through Instagram brand sales, and Ms. Nate built rapport by delivering items to her workplace. When Dr. Tib needed to liquidate her luxury collection—including Hermès bags, jewelry, and designer clothing—she consigned over 101 pieces to Ms. Nate, who promised to photograph items and add her shop name before returning them. Instead, Ms. Nate refused to return the items or post them for sale.

When pressed, she made excuses, claiming she had consigned the items to a foreign customer. By mid-2567, Ms. Nate claimed the bags had been stolen and offered a 4.6 million baht loan agreement as partial compensation, promising to return remaining items. However, she only paid interest, avoided principal repayment, and repeatedly used the excuse of "insufficient liquidity" to trick Dr. Tib into giving her another 400,000 baht under the pretense of investing in inventory, promising to return profits. The truth eventually emerged when Dr. Tib discovered the deception.

Thai Sports Authority Director Kongsakd Confident Thailand Will Hit Gold Medal Target Despite Tougher Competition at Asian Beach Games

Dr. Kongsakd Yodmani, Director of Thailand's Sports Authority, says competing nations at the Asian Beach Games have strengthened significantly, but remains confident Thailand will achieve its gold medal target. Midway through the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, Thailand has secured gold medals in beach athletics and rowing, along with multiple silver and bronze medals. The SAT aims for 15 gold medals total and believes athletes in sports like Sepak Takraw and other disciplines will deliver strong performances in the second half of competition.

26 Apr Khaosod

Dr. Kongsakd Yodmani, Director of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), acknowledged that competing nations at the Asian Beach Games have developed significantly, making the competition tougher for Thailand, though he remains confident the country will achieve its gold medal target. He praised Thai athletes' performance at the midway point of the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, noting commendable achievements including gold medals in beach athletics from sprinters Phuripol Bunsorn (men's 60m), Jiraphachara Khaanontakta (women's 60m), and the women's 4x60m relay, as well as a gold in men's 200m canoe racing where Thailand defeated the host Chinese team. The team has also secured multiple silver and bronze medals. "I must commend our athletes for their successful medal hauls, particularly in athletics where we've claimed golds in the highlighted sprint and relay events," Kongsakd stated. "However, we believe many other sports will perform well in the second half of competition, so let's keep supporting our athletes until the final day." He acknowledged the original target of 15 gold medals remains the goal, though some sports fell short due to significantly strengthened competition from athletes across Asia. The SAT director noted that Sepak Takraw, where Thailand has world champion-caliber athletes, remains a strong prospect. He emphasized that the investment in training camps has proven worthwhile, as Thai athletes gain invaluable competitive experience and insight into Asian standards, which will benefit their development toward the Asian Games and Olympics. The 6th Asian Beach Games features 14 sports: beach athletics, water sports (marathon swimming and water polo), 3x3 basketball, beach handball, beach soccer, beach volleyball, dragon boat racing, sport climbing, beach wrestling, jiu-jitsu, beach kabaddi, sailing (windsurfing and kiteboarding), triathlon (duathlon with swimming and running), and Sepak Takraw.

Suphanart Criticizes Rural Road Department: Turning Off Street Lights Doesn't Save Money and Creates Safety Risks

Pheu Thai MP Suphanart Meenchaiyanan criticized the Department of Rural Roads' plan to turn off street lights on rural highways starting May 1, arguing it won't save money and creates safety risks. He urged converting to LED lighting instea

26 Apr Khaosod

Suphanart Meenchaiyanan, a Bangkok MP from the Pheu Thai Party, criticized the Department of Rural Roads on April 26, 2025, over its order to reduce energy consumption on rural highways in low-risk areas starting May 1, 2025, without compromising safety standards.

Suphanart stated that the Department of Rural Roads should instead focus on converting street lights from HPS sodium vapor bulbs to LED lighting, which would provide better energy savings and be more sustainable than turning off lights entirely.

He argued that the Transport Ministry's focus on turning off lights will have limited impact, as light spacing, frequency, and positioning are specifically designed to provide adequate illumination for road users. Turning off lights will negatively affect road users and create safety hazards. Many areas already have non-functional lights, and darkening them further will be even worse. Suphanart believes this policy will achieve little.

For effective energy conservation, he recommends the ministry prioritize converting all street lights to LED technology and prevent theft of electrical cables, which would be far more beneficial.

Arne Praises Woodman's Crucial Save as Liverpool Beats Crystal Palace; Salah Injury Concern Ahead of Season's End

Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at home on April 25th, with backup goalkeeper Freddie Woodman making a crucial save, though Mohamed Salah's injury exit in the second half raises concerns ahead of the season's final weeks.

26 Apr Khaosod

Liverpool manager Arne Slot praised his team's fighting spirit after they defeated Crystal Palace 3-1 at home in the English Premier League on April 25th. The victory lifted Liverpool to 4th place with 58 points from 34 matches, matching Aston Villa but with a superior goal difference. After the match, Slot spoke about the win, saying: "Ultimately, the result came out positively. We managed to win from a position where we conceded a goal we shouldn't have, but we fought hard and finished with a 3-1 scoreline. So the bad luck we've experienced many times this season that would normally cost us points didn't happen today. That's a very good thing." Regarding the performance comparison, Slot noted: "If you look at both teams' form, I think Palace deserved to get back in the game because they played well and nearly scored. The difference was very small. But there's also the matter of Mohamed Salah's injury. Of course, after winning, it will be another moment to review our overall season." Slot also praised third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who made his first competitive start due to injuries to primary keeper Alisson Becker and second-choice Giorgi Mamardashvili. "I've told you many times that we often create good chances, but then the opposition's first chance becomes a goal. I can't say that today because they had plenty of chances. But I think the crucial moment was when we were leading 2-0 and Freddie made an important save. Otherwise it would have been 1-1, and then 10 seconds later we'd be up 2-0. These are the small margins in the Premier League, and today they went our way. Many times this season they haven't." Regarding Salah's injury, which forced his substitution in the 59th minute, Slot said: "We don't know yet. That's the best answer I can give because if I say there's a chance, it becomes a headline that suggests..." He continued: "We don't know, but we do know the season is only four weeks left. So there aren't many games remaining. We have to wait and see if he'll be ready to return." Slot added: "What I know about Salah is that over the years, he's taken very good care of his body. He'll take the minimum time needed to recover from injuries. I hope it's good and he'll be ready for the final stretch of the season."

Mother Files Charges Against Subdistrict Chief for Dragging Son, Handcuffing, and Torturing Him with Red Ants

A subdistrict chief in Phatthalung Province has been accused of severely torturing a 28-year-old man by handcuffing him, beating him, and using red ants as a weapon, claiming the man had stolen from residents. The victim's mother has filed charges and vowed to pursue legal action, rejecting the suspect's offer to settle the case out of court.

26 Apr Khaosod

A mother has vowed to pursue legal action after filing a complaint against a subdistrict chief in Srinakharin District, Phatthalung Province, who allegedly dragged her sleeping 28-year-old son from his home, handcuffed him, tied him to a mango tree, beat him in the face until his eyes were bruised, kicked him, and used red ants to bite him across his body. The accused claims he had CCTV evidence that the young man had stolen beetles from local residents.

The mother stated that the subdistrict chief went too far by handcuffing her son, beating and kicking him, and using red ants against him. She pleaded with him multiple times during the assault until blood was drawn, but the chief refused to stop. The mother refused to back down, vowing to see the case through to the end.

The mother acknowledged her son has behavioral issues, but insisted that if he committed a crime, it should be reported to police and handled through the legal system, not through vigilante justice. Earlier that morning, the subdistrict chief and local administrative officials visited the home and asked the mother to drop charges in exchange for compensation, but she refused.

When approached by reporters at the victim's home, the subdistrict chief declined to provide any explanation regarding the incident.

Two Polls Show Public Confidence in Eknath to Solve Energy Problems, Satisfied with Electricity and Fuel Cost Reductions

Two nationwide surveys show 67.9 percent of Thais have high confidence in Energy Minister Eknath Phrom-muang, with strong approval for electricity and fuel cost reductions and demands for transparent pricing structures.

26 Apr Khaosod

On April 26, 2025, Dr. Chanyawit Ariyawornananth, acting director of Super Poll research institute, presented survey findings on public confidence in Energy Minister Eknath Phrom-muang, based on a nationwide sample of 1,259 respondents from all occupational backgrounds, conducted between April 22-25, 2025.

The Super Poll survey on public confidence in Energy Minister Eknath Phrom-muang reflects the important dynamics of the relationship between "policy performance" and "public perception" in the context of energy problems, which is a structural issue that directly impacts the quality of life for the broader public. This study, conducted using both quantitative and qualitative research methods with a nationwide sample of 1,259 respondents, reveals significant trends that will shape public policy direction moving forward.

Regarding "expectations," the majority of the public clearly expressed the desire to solve energy problems at a structural level, particularly continuous energy price reductions, which reached as high as 89.6 percent. This reflects the reality that energy is not merely an economic commodity but a "cost of living" that the public directly uses to evaluate government performance.

Beyond this, the demand for transparent disclosure of energy price structures at 84.3 percent emphasizes the public's desire for transparency and fairness in the energy system. Meanwhile, support for controlling energy business profits and reforming the entire system was also high, showing that the public does not only want short-term fixes but desires genuine systemic change.

When examining the "confidence" dimension, the survey found that 67.9 percent of the public has a high to very high level of confidence in the Energy Minister, and an additional 21.4 percent has a moderate level of confidence. This means roughly 4 in 5 people have a confidence level ranging from moderate to very high—a figure reflecting a "positive confidence base" forming in society. However, the presence of 10.7 percent of the public with low or no confidence indicates an area of uncertainty that still needs to be addressed through concrete results and more effective communication.

In terms of "perception of credibility," the survey shows that most of the public views the minister positively, especially in dimensions of seriousness about work (77.1 percent) and intention to solve national and public problems (74.2 percent). These are moral leadership qualities that play an important role in building long-term trust.

Meanwhile, the public's perception of communication ability and accessibility at 67.3 percent shows that policy communication has become effective to some degree. However, the 22.1 percent of people who remain "uncertain" reveals a perception gap that can still be developed.

Regarding "perception of work performance," the survey found that the public has a high level of awareness of measures related to fuel price reductions (73.8 percent) and direct field engagement to address problems (70.5 percent). This reflects awareness in the dimension of "practical leadership" that emphasizes action and confronting problems directly.
