ONE Championship Boss Chatri Announces Japanese Kickboxing Legend Takeru Enters Hall of Fame
Japanese kickboxing legend Takeru Segawa will be inducted into the ONE Hall of Fame after retiring following a knockout victory at ONE Samurai 1 last week. The 46-5 fighter joins an elite group of world champions honored by ONE Championship
ONE Championship President Chatri Sityodtong has announced that Takeru Segawa, who recently retired, will be inducted into the ONE Hall of Fame with ceremonial honors. The ONE boss praised the accomplishments of Takeru Segawa, Japan's elite kickboxer, who recently delivered a spectacular knockout of Tank Jitrmuangnon to capture the interim kickboxing world championship at ONE Samurai 1 last week. Following that match, Takeru officially announced his retirement. The ONE president posted: "I'm thrilled to announce that Takeru (with a record of 46 wins and 5 losses) will be nominated for induction into the ONE Hall of Fame later this year, joining other legendary world champions such as Demetrious Johnson, Bibiano Fernandes, and Aung La Nsang." Beyond his Hall of Fame induction, Takeru will be honored with a ceremonial bell ringing 10 times during his retirement ceremony at ONE Samurai 4 in October. Takeru retires as the greatest Japanese kickboxer in history, having won championships in Japan through his K-1 title and conquered the world with the most prestigious world championship of his career on the world's greatest fighting stage, ONE Championship. The world will remember this special moment in history forever. His spirit, his power, his tears—Takeru was 4-to-1 underdog but created a miracle to conclude a legendary career. In my view, the world saw Takeru at his absolute best that night. Without a doubt, Takeru will be recognized as one of the greatest kickboxing champions in the sport's history. It's truly like a fairytale. Congratulations once again, Takeru.
