Khun Khai Malihuana Teams Up with Academics and Artists to Advance Establishment of 'National Arts Council'

Thailand's arts sector leaders and academics are collaborating to establish a National Arts Council, viewing it as critical for supporting Thai artists and boosting the nation's creative industries globally.

8h ago Khaosod

A significant movement in Thailand's arts and culture sector is gaining momentum as Khun Khai Malihuana (Kladawut Thongthai) joins forces with academics and contemporary artist networks from the civil society to hold an important meeting on 'Advancing the Establishment of the National Arts Council' at the Royal Princess Hotel Larn Luang in Bangkok.

This represents a crucial gathering bringing together academics and arts activists from across the country. Dr. Sirivat Saemserm from Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, who is leading the project initiative, stated: 'This is an exceptional opportunity to have all the experts, specialists, and stakeholders from our arts community—spanning contemporary and grassroots artists and all related fields—come together to share ideas and recommendations to truly advance the establishment of Thailand's National Arts Council. We have now gathered momentum from every region across the country: the North in Chiang Mai, the South in Phuket, the Northeast in Khon Kaen, and Bangkok. This collective strength demonstrates that Thailand's National Arts Council can genuinely become a reality. This research will serve as the foundation, with the Contemporary Arts and Culture Office overseeing the project alongside the Ministry of Culture. We need the government's full support to make this happen.'

Prakrit Gop Kijwattana, a creative advertising professional and political campaign designer, shared: 'This is one of the first serious discussions about the National Arts Council, bringing together teachers and experts from various fields to brainstorm its establishment. This council will play a vital role in supporting state policies and advancing Thai artists, enabling Thai arts to gain prominence on the global stage. When we look at major countries—England, France, America, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore—they all recognize that arts and culture, from grassroots to contemporary art, film, theater, and music, require a central arts council to drive them forward. Though Thailand is establishing this late, we must do it now. The government should prioritize this issue. The longer we delay, the more we will fall behind in the creative industries competition. This is a good start that should happen regardless of which government is in power. Arts and culture could become a driver of Thailand's economic growth.'

Thawatchai Somkhong, a respected artist and skilled practitioner with significant influence in advancing Thai arts, and founder of Fine Art magazine, added: 'This is an important starting point where we unite our thinking toward a common goal. The council has long been a dream in our industry, filling the gaps that government agencies cannot address to elevate the arts sector and create economic impact. We are gathering people from all groups within the arts community to identify key issues and reach conclusions to move forward. This is only the first step, and we hope the network grows and that those in this field will collectively support the council's establishment to fulfill everyone's dream. We have involved lawmakers who recognize the importance of viewing arts not merely as cultural matters but as an economic driver.'

Mongkol Kitti Storms Satriwitthaya 2 School as Students Cheer and Shout '007'

Mongkol Kitti and a Bangkok gubernatorial candidate visited Satriwitthaya 2 School on May 22, where enthusiastic students gathered seeking photos and autographs while discussing education and transportation issues with the delegation.

9h ago Khaosod

On May 22, 2569, Mongkol Kitti Sukhsintharanont, leader of the 'Bangkok Can Fly' group, visited Satriwitthaya 2 School to meet with students, accompanied by Bangkok gubernatorial candidate Phasermpong Chaiyaviriyanavaniched, Vivat Chareonpanichsiree, and Phakphorn Chanchanana, along with team members. The visit drew large crowds of students who eagerly welcomed the delegation. The school corridors and grounds were packed with students seeking selfies, autographs, and photos, with some climbing desks and onto friends' shoulders to catch a glimpse of 'Phi Tae,' while shouts of '007' echoed throughout the campus.

During the visit, Mongkol Kitti and his team conversed casually with students, listened to their concerns about education, transportation, and school environment, and gathered their perspectives on Bangkok's educational development. Phakphorn Chanchanana also engaged in discussions about academic quality, youth activities, and stress reduction for students.

Phasermpong Chaiyaviriyanavaniched, the gubernatorial candidate, stated that the visit aimed to listen to students' problems and opinions about what they would like the Bangkok governor to improve. From conversations with students, he identified the main issue of transportation, noting one student living in Lam Lukka, Pathum Thani, who needs daily rides from parents. He proposed implementing a 'Student Bus' system with long-distance routes connecting outer areas to central Bangkok, including a route from the Vibhavadi-Rangsit zone to a central hub at Sanam Luang to reduce commuting problems.

If given the opportunity to govern Bangkok, Phasermpong said he would negotiate with major bus operators running over 3,100 vehicles to allocate approximately 30 percent, or around 1,000 buses, for a trial run on 10 major routes to assess whether this could reduce traffic congestion, increase public transportation usage, and decrease personal vehicle use.

Discussions with school administrators revealed three main issues: flooding problems, transportation and traffic concerns, and dangerously low-hanging overhead cables in some areas, with requests for Bangkok to remove and organize them for safety.

Mongkol Kitti expressed surprise at the enthusiastic reception from Satriwitthaya 2 students.

Interior Trade Department Recruits Buyers for 100 Tons of Golden Rambutan from Trat Province to Combat Price Collapse

The Interior Trade Department is recruiting buyers for 100 tons of golden rambutan from Trat Province after prices collapsed to 15 baht per kilogram, distributing the fruit through government agencies and tourism events to stabilize the mar

9h ago Khaosod

The Interior Trade Department has intervened to help rambutan farmers in Bo Rai District, Trat Province, whose golden rambutan prices have plummeted to approximately 15 baht per kilogram. Deputy Director Jirawut Suvanaj revealed that the department coordinated with the Trat Provincial Commerce Office and brought in direct buyers starting May 23, 2025, with an initial target to purchase 100 tons within one week at market-leading prices.

Suvanaj stated that the purchased rambutan will be distributed through various channels including Thailand's Tourism Authority trail running event this weekend in Rayong Province, as well as government and private sector units such as the Customs Department, Royal Thai Army, Teachers' Council, and Central Department Store branches to help clear inventory and stabilize prices for farmers.

Regarding Trat's 2025 rambutan situation, the province has 45,657 rai of rambutan plantations (golden and school varieties) with total production of 106,906 tons, up 5%. Currently 50% of the harvest has reached the market, while golden rambutan production costs stand at 13.86 baht per kilogram. Early season prices were relatively strong and higher compared to the same period last year. However, prices have recently begun declining due to market factors and weather conditions, including Vietnamese market slowdown in purchasing due to economic conditions and competing fruits entering the market, giving consumers more options. Domestically, consumers prefer school rambutan while golden rambutan is mostly used for canned fruit processing. Additionally, recent continuous rainfall has caused some fruit to remain in orchards. The department has moved quickly to prevent further price declines that could impact farmers' incomes.

"The Interior Trade Department will work with the Provincial Commerce Office to closely monitor rambutan prices and production volumes to maintain price stability and promptly relieve farmers' hardship," Jirawut stated.

TrueOnline has launched 'TrueOnline Home Next,' combining quality home internet, intelligent IoT devices, and AI technology with the TrueX Home Hub as the smart home control center, alongside 'Amy,' an intelligent home assistant.

On May 22, 2025, Thanapol Manavuddiwech, head of home connectivity management at True Corporation, stated that Thailand's home internet market is entering a significant transformation point. Although the user base reaches approximately 10.41 million with growth stabilizing at 1-2%, consumer demands have clearly shifted. Customers no longer seek only fast home internet but require solutions offering greater convenience, simplicity, safety, and mutual care.

'Modern homes are increasingly filled with IoT devices. According to the Digital 2025: Thailand report by We Are Social and Meltwater, Thailand's smart home market shows 12.3 million smart home devices already in Thai households. However, the technology remains complex to manage, requiring constant commands, settings adjustments, and manual control.'

The 'TrueOnline Home Next: Homes that Care for Life' launch combines AI and smart home technology from TrueX partnering with Tuya, a world-leading AI IoT Cloud Platform provider, and T3 Technology, bringing world-class smart home technology to Thai households.

The TrueX Home Hub features 'Amy,' an intelligent assistant serving as everyone's trusted friend in the home. She responds to Thai voice commands and easily connects to various TrueX devices and over 3 million Tuya devices throughout Thailand.

Oliver Kittipong Viratetecha, head of brand and communications management, noted that the TrueOnline Home Next launch announces the positioning of Thailand's leading home internet provider no longer viewing itself as merely providing high-speed signals. Instead, it is ushering home internet into a new era where 'home' becomes not just a residence but a life-caring assistant for every family member through technology and AI. 'Amy,' the new intelligent assistant, reflects AI's role not merely as technology but as a close, understanding companion ready to support users daily.
