Kamlasak and Tawi Submit Parliamentary Letter on Shooting Case, Demand Cell Phone Signal Tracking of Female Mastermind

Narathiwat MP Kamlasak Lewamao has urged authorities to extract cell phone records before they're deleted to identify masterminds behind a March shooting attack targeting him and two others, warning that southern MPs face continued danger i

1d ago Khaosod

On May 21, 2025, Kamlasak Lewamao, a Narathiwat MP from the Prachachat Party and chairman of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, along with Pol. Lt. Col. Tawi Sotsong, head of the Prachachat Party, and MP Romdan Panjor of the Prachachan Party, submitted a letter to Rangsiman Rom, chairman of the State Security, Thai Border Affairs, National Strategy and Country Reform Committee, requesting an update on the shooting incident that occurred on March 20. The attack targeted Kamlasak, Harirak Himmahna, and Uthlumlah Golao.

During a morning meeting with the police committee, investigators reported that seven suspects have been charged: five alleged perpetrators and two supporters. Kamlasak expressed concern about the roles of the two accused supporters, suspecting they may have been more involved than their charges indicate. He noted that the attack was planned over a month in advance, suggesting a larger network beyond the current seven suspects.

Kamlasak urged investigators to urgently obtain cell phone records and digital evidence before they are automatically deleted within three months, as this data could be crucial to identifying the masterminds. Rangsiman Rom agreed to bring the matter before the committee for close monitoring of the justice process.

Kamlasak stated: "This is no longer just a personal matter for me, but rather a broader issue affecting how to address problems throughout the southern border provinces. If we cannot identify the mastermind, every MP in this region must continue living in fear."

Related headlines indicate ongoing pressure for investigators to identify the female mastermind, calls to elevate the case to special status, and concerns that the investigation may be derailed before reaching those who ordered the attack.

Arrested: Uncle Sexually Assaults 18-Year-Old Niece, Secret Letter Saves Her, Now Pregnant

An 18-year-old's secret letter to her mother led to the arrest of her uncle and grandfather in Udon Thani for multiple sexual assaults; the victim is now pregnant and hospitalized.

1d ago Khaosod

At 2:00 PM on May 21, 2026, police from Udon Thani City Station arrested Suphat (name withheld), 38, and Suwit (name withheld), 63, a father and son, on charges of rape and indecent assault. They were apprehended while sleeping at their home in Ban Chan Sub-district, Muang District, Udon Thani Province, then brought in for questioning.

The victim, Ms. A (pseudonym), 18, had written a secret letter to her mother, Ms. B (name withheld), 38, revealing she had been raped by her uncle six times and subjected to indecent touching. Ms. B had left her daughter in the care of relatives after separating from her husband. Upon learning her daughter was pregnant, Ms. B immediately filed a report with police.

During interrogation, Suphat confessed to the sexual assaults, claiming he acted because he lived in the same house and frequently saw his niece wearing revealing clothes and sitting carelessly, which aroused him sexually. He stated he raped her three times (not six), with the other three instances being molestation. He threatened her into silence after the first assault. Suphat admitted he used drugs before the incidents and apologized to both his niece and her mother.

Suwit confessed to groping his niece's chest on three occasions while asking for money, but denied experiencing sexual arousal. He admitted to drug use and apologized for his actions.

Ms. B expressed relief that the perpetrators were arrested, saying her daughter could now feel safe. She stated the doctors confirmed the pregnancy and she had it terminated. She cut off all family ties with the accused. Ms. B noted she earns 300 baht per day as a laborer, lost five days of work, and has no income. She was forced to pawn her motorcycle for 1,000 baht just to survive. Her daughter is currently recovering in the hospital.

Running Out of Patience: Arne Slot Set to Leave Liverpool Next Season

Liverpool will not retain manager Arne Slot beyond next season after the club's board decided to part ways following poor results and talks with senior players despite £450 million in investment.

1d ago Khaosod

According to reports, Liverpool's board has decided not to retain manager Arne Slot for the next season following conversations with senior players last weekend. Slot's tenure has seen disappointing results this season despite over £450 million in investment, with Liverpool failing to win any major titles and still uncertain about qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. This poor performance has prompted Liverpool fans to call for the manager's departure, though the board had initially maintained confidence in Slot. However, freelance journalist Chris Roys has reported that the board has now decided to remove Slot from his position for the 2025-26 season. While Liverpool originally gave Slot additional time to salvage the situation, the decision to terminate his contract came following discussions with senior players over the past weekend. Reports also indicate that Liverpool's board is searching for a new head coach rather than a general manager, showing no interest in candidates like Xabi Alonso and has yet to decide on Slot's replacement. Meanwhile, football analyst Fabrizio Romano stated that Slot's performance will be evaluated at the end of the season, emphasizing that Liverpool's end-of-season assessment will involve players, management, and Slot himself. Currently, Liverpool has not approached any other potential managers, making this evaluation period crucial for the club's future direction.

Deputy National Police Commander Jaruenkiat Pankaew announced on May 21, 2025 that the Central Investigation Police have received a report from an educational institution in Khon Kaen accusing a municipal election candidate and deputy subdistrict mayor from Phluak Daeng District in Rayong of forging university credentials. The suspect allegedly used the falsified documents both for further education applications and to register for the recent subdistrict mayor election. Police are currently examining evidence and facts in detail, and if wrongdoing is confirmed, they will prosecute the case to the fullest extent of the law.

JaiPhet Sakraphanit, director of the Election Commission's Rayong provincial office, stated that while the commission is aware of the allegations, any election challenge must follow proper legal procedures. If the investigation remains incomplete after 30 days, the Election Commission is obligated to certify the election results for the winner within 60 days. However, if fraud is later discovered, legal action will be pursued under electoral law and related statutes, with potential candidate disqualification.

The subdistrict municipality held elections for mayor and council members on March 29. When reporters visited the area to investigate, both the municipality secretary and officials declined to provide information about the scandal.

On May 21, 2025, Thitipat Taijongrak, director of the Automotive Engineering Office and spokesman for the Department of Land Transport, announced that following reports on social media and news outlets regarding fires in Volvo EX30 electric vehicles, the Ministry of Transport has taken urgent action. Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angsakulkiarti instructed the Department of Land Transport to immediately investigate and establish safety guidelines for the vehicle model.

On May 19, 2025, Volvo Car (Thailand) submitted technical explanations revealing that the fire incidents stemmed from a high-voltage battery cell system defect. The company has prepared replacement parts and will begin recalling all 1,668 affected vehicles in Thailand to replace battery modules starting May 25, 2025.

The Department of Land Transport has ordered the company to complete all repairs urgently and enhance communication channels to inform all owners of safe usage guidelines while awaiting service appointments. Volvo must submit regular progress reports until all defects are completely remedied.

The Department of Land Transport, under authority of the Automotive Act B.E. 2522, has reviewed the vehicle's safety certification standards for electric drive systems and batteries according to international standard UNR100. The department has immediately suspended new vehicle registration for this model until the defects are fixed and safety testing is completed. This affects only future new registrations, not previously registered vehicles.

The Department of Land Transport assures the public that vehicle safety is its highest priority and will enforce strict legal measures to prevent future risks. For inquiries, contact the Department of Land Transport hotline at 1584, available 24 hours.

Exposé: Popular 'Handsome Priest' Calendar from Rome Revealed—But Many Models Aren't Actually Clergy

1d ago Khaosod

A bombshell scandal has erupted over the wildly popular "Handsome Priest" calendar that has captivated tourists in Rome for over 20 years—but many of the men pictured are not actual priests. The black-and-white photo calendar of attractive young men dressed as clergy has become a bestselling souvenir sold in shops around Vatican City and the Old Town. However, behind this popularity lies a growing controversy: many of the men in the images may not be genuine priests. Giovanni Galizia is one of the most discussed figures, having appeared on the cover of multiple editions of the "Handsome Priest" calendar for over 23 years, with the same image recycled repeatedly. Dressed in clerical collars and smiling mysteriously against a church backdrop in Palermo, Galizia revealed that he was only 17 when the photo was taken and saw it as a fun teenage activity—the day was filled with laughter from friends amused by his priest costume, despite having no religious connection whatsoever. After reports from local Rome media outlets, the calendar drew increased scrutiny and was dubbed a potential "fake priest calendar." Despite this, the creators insist the work is purely artistic with no intent to deceive and no direct connection to the Vatican. The officially named "Calendario Romano" uses 12 black-and-white images annually, mostly young men styled as priests, with some images reused across multiple years. The photographer reports selling thousands of copies yearly. Galizia, who now works as a flight attendant, confirmed he has never received compensation for the photos and has never been recognized on the street, though his family once gifted him a copy, which resulted in household hilarity. The calendar creators noted that at least one-third of the men in the 2027 edition are actual priests, though they provided no further details. Shop owners in Rome's tourist areas report the calendar continues to sell several copies daily. A South Korean priest who spotted the calendar near Vatican City commented that it is well-known among younger generations and viewed humorously, helping make the image of priests seem more approachable, despite being merely a controversial art project.

Kasetsart University partners with the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC) to launch the 'Royal Initiative Developer Program 13' curriculum aimed at developing 'multiplier' leaders to drive sustainable development based on royal initiatives and the philosophy of sufficiency economy. Luxury Redefined: New Generation Driving Thai, Korean, Chinese, and European Brands to Market Success

Young consumers aged 18-35 are driving explosive growth in accessible luxury markets, prioritizing quality and personal value over brand prestige, fueling rapid sales for Korean, Thai, Chinese, and European brands.

1d ago Khaosod

Consumers aged 18-35, or Young Consumers, comprising Millennials and Gen Z, are driving the rapidly expanding Accessible Luxury market, with spending three times higher than traditional luxury segments. The 1 Insight reveals that the overall luxury market remains stable while luxury itself is being redefined—no longer limited to high-priced goods or legendary brands, but requiring genuine quality that reflects personal identity and delivers real value. This shift benefits emerging brands from Korea, Thailand, China, and Europe that emphasize quality-to-price balance, with sales surging dramatically as consumers pursue "Smart Indulgence"—thoughtful spending on products that meet their emotional and practical needs.

Young consumers now represent roughly 60% of global purchasing power, making them the primary driver of today's economy, retail, and spending trends. The Accessible Luxury market, spanning fashion and beauty, has become the largest segment of the luxury market. New-generation consumers prioritize emotional value, personal expression, and long-term worth over brand prestige or price alone, fueling rapid growth for fashion and beauty brands from Korea, Thailand, and Europe. These brands leverage quality, design, authentic social media communication, and accessible pricing to create viral momentum, with products often selling out quickly.

This "Smart Indulgence" behavior is especially evident in Accessible Luxury fashion, where sales have grown dramatically across all age groups and multiplied significantly among younger consumers. The top three categories among Young Consumers are footwear, apparel, and watches. In the Accessible Luxury beauty segment—which serves as a "Luxury Entry Point" for younger consumers—sales have grown 1.5 times, with makeup products specifically surging 2 times. Multi-brand beauty retailers featuring products from diverse countries, particularly Accessible Luxury brands targeting Young Consumers, have seen spending increase 1.5 times, while Korean and innovative specialty brands are experiencing rapid growth through fresh, trendy products that reflect individual style.
