Industrial and Hazardous Waste Bureau raids illegal factory storing hazardous waste and e-waste, investigates connection to lithium battery truck fire

Authorities raided an illegal hazardous waste facility in Samut Sakhon, arresting a factory director and seizing nearly 100 cubic meters of e-waste and other hazardous materials in an investigation connected to a lithium battery truck fire

1h ago Khaosod

On May 29, Pol. Lt. Gen. Anuek Tausupap, director of the Industrial and Hazardous Waste Bureau (IHWB), ordered a team of officers including Pol. Col. Nathapol Akareuan, Pol. Maj. Nattawat Sunarot, and Pol. Lt. Col. Bancha Sritanyu to raid an unauthorized factory in Moo 6, Tha Trai subdistrict, Muang district, Samut Sakhon. Officers arrested Ms. Chayaphak (surname withheld), 42, a company director, and seized approximately 9.8 cubic meters of electronic waste, 60 cubic meters of sludge, 21 cubic meters of e-waste in bulk bags, and 9.68 cubic meters of solar panels.

The operation followed a May 3 lithium battery truck fire on Tepharat Road (Bangkok-Trat Highway) at kilometer 40 in Bang Pakong district, Chachoengsao province, which raised concerns about illegal hazardous waste management. Authorities expanded their investigation and identified this factory as a facility sorting, collecting, and storing hazardous waste commercially without authorization.

Officers obtained a search warrant from Samut Sakhon Provincial Court and coordinated with the Department of Industrial Works, Samut Sakhon Provincial Industry Office, and related agencies. The inspection found the factory was operating as a Category 3 industrial facility without proper authorization from the Department of Industrial Works. The seized materials are classified as Category 3 hazardous substances held without legal permission.

While no direct evidence linking the factory to the lithium battery truck fire was discovered, authorities will continue expanding their investigation into related networks. Ms. Chayaphak confessed to operating the illegal facility but denied any knowledge of the lithium battery fire. She faces charges for operating an industrial factory without authorization and unlawfully possessing Category 3 hazardous materials. She was handed over to Muang Samut Sakhon Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Ancelotti Explains Decision to Include Neymar in Squad – Confident Brazil Can Win World Cup

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti recalled veteran forward Neymar to the 26-player squad for the 2026 World Cup, citing improved physical condition and experience as key factors in the selection decision.

1h ago Khaosod

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has explained his reasoning for calling up veteran attacker Neymar from Santos as part of the Seleção's 26-player squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Neymar returns to the national team after a lengthy absence from the Brazil squad, following Ancelotti's announcement of the 26 players selected for World Cup 2026. The forward had barely featured for Brazil in recent times.

Ancelotti recently addressed why he chose to include Neymar in this squad: "We have been evaluating Neymar throughout the season. He has shown considerable development recently, and his physical condition has also improved. He is an important player, and he will be important in the World Cup."

"Neymar will have the same responsibilities as the other 25 players. He may get playing time or not, sit on the bench or come on as a substitute. He has the same responsibilities as everyone else. He is a player with experience in many areas—both scoring and attacking. We prioritize experience above all."

"We want to be a strong team so we can try to win the World Cup. I'm not afraid to say that we can win it. There are high expectations, and that gives us motivation. It's important for our preparation."

Brazil will compete in Group C of the 2026 World Cup alongside Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland.

Family Demands Release of Two Suspects in Elderly Woman's Murder Case After Arrest of Actual Killer Who Confessed to Debt Collection Motive; Police Explain Bail Decision Rests with Court

A 57-year-old mechanic confessed to murdering a 73-year-old woman in a debt-related dispute, leading the family of two wrongly detained suspects to demand their release. Police said bail decisions rest with the court, not investigators, des

1h ago Khaosod

Family members of two suspects stormed a police station on May 19 demanding their release after police arrested Akhorn, a 57-year-old mechanic, who confessed to murdering 73-year-old Pranee on November 1, 2024. Police had initially detained Charoen Yut, 52, and Phon Phon, 54, as suspects, but Akhorn later confessed to being the actual perpetrator without implicating anyone else, though he had previously pointed police toward the two men as being at the crime scene. The family members demanded that police explain why the two innocent men remained detained despite the arrest of the true killer, and requested that police issue a statement accepting responsibility for the error and allow both men to be released.

Police clarified that investigators opposed temporary bail because the case involves a serious crime that has shocked the public, carries severe penalties, and remains under active investigation. However, police emphasized that the absolute authority to grant or deny temporary bail rests solely with the court's discretion, and that investigators' opposition to bail is merely an opinion to inform the court's decision.

Regarding Akhorn's confession, police stated he provided details about the crime location, where he assaulted the victim, the point where he disposed of the body, where evidence was burned, and where items were discarded—information valuable for gathering evidence. Police pledged to handle the case fairly. According to police, Akhorn attacked Pranee after she came to his wife's house to collect a debt, resulting in a physical altercation. Akhorn intervened to help his wife and fatally injured Pranee, then disposed of her body and destroyed evidence before his arrest.

Snail Confident in 100% Readiness, Vows Knockout if Opportunity Arises; Mother Reveals No Worries, Pride in Her Son

1h ago Khaosod

On May 19, 2569, Snail Sisodmonty (Snail Luk Peert) spoke confidently to media before his bout on the Langkawi Day ring, declaring his readiness exceeded 100% despite having only two weeks to prepare and train intensively. He stated he's ready to finish the fight before the final round if given the opportunity.

When asked about his confidence, Snail responded: "I'm completely ready right now. My opponent has expressed confidence and set a goal to check my chin with a knockout—I respect that. But if I get the chance to knock him out, I will definitely do it. Whether it happens from the first round, we'll have to see in the ring."

When pressed about his signature technique or secret weapon, Snail smiled mysteriously and kept it under wraps, simply saying: "I'd like everyone to watch and find out in the ring." Observers speculate he may unveil surprise striking techniques or heavy artillery to thrill boxing fans.

Trainers from the Sisodmonty camp revealed their limited two-week training program. The first week focused on fundamentals and teaching boxing basics, since Snail had never boxed or trained before and couldn't be pushed too hard. The second week shifted to technical boxing review and more intense conditioning similar to professional fighters. "You have to understand he's never thrown a punch or trained in boxing before," the trainer explained. "We had to guide him carefully these two weeks so he'd be ready and perform his best. The kid showed great determination."

During the interview, when media noted Snail's mother appeared stressed, she quickly clarified with a smile: "I'm not worried about him fighting. What you see is just the heat making me look tense—I've been sitting in the sun for hours. For today's fight, I just want him to give his absolute best. Whether he wins or loses doesn't matter because I've already seen his determination. I watched him train every week, and the camp took great care of him."

She continued emotionally: "I'm so proud of him. Over these weeks, I saw how hard he worked and how focused he was. Today, win or lose, I don't care about that. Just seeing how far he's come and the responsibility he's taken on makes me happy and proud as a mother."

As his mother spoke with emotion, Snail stood beside her, embraced her, and expressed gratitude to his mother amid smiles and applause from media and onlookers. Snail thanked everyone for their encouragement and promised to do his best. He acknowledged that his mother's and family's support is the most important motivation driving him to face his opponent fearlessly in the ring.

What to know about Thailand ending 60-day visa-free stays

Thailand is eliminating its 60-day visa-free stay scheme for all 93 eligible countries while overhauling its entire visa policy to reduce confusion and streamline entry requirements. The changes take effect 15 days after publication in the

1h ago Khaosod

BANGKOK — Thailand will revoke the 60-day visa-free stay scheme for all 93 eligible countries and territories as part of a sweeping overhaul of the country's visa policy, the Department of Consular Affairs announced on 19 May.

Mangkorn Pratoomkaew, director-general of the Department of Consular Affairs, said the Cabinet had approved a review of Thailand's visa exemption and visa privilege measures following a proposal by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Under the new policy, each country or territory will receive only one visa exemption privilege.

The government will also review the 30-day visa-free tourism scheme, reducing the number of eligible countries and territories from 57 to 54. In addition, Thailand plans to introduce a new 15-day visa-free tourism scheme for three countries or territories and drastically reduce the number of countries eligible for Visa on Arrival from 31 to just four.

The changes will take effect 15 days after publication in the Royal Gazette under three announcements issued by the Ministry of Interior.

Mangkorn said the review followed discussions among agencies under the Visa Policy Committee and took into account security, tourism, economic factors and reciprocal treatment between countries. He added that overlapping visa privileges had caused confusion among foreign travellers and complicated the Foreign Ministry's e-Visa system.

Foreign nationals already in Thailand, or those entering before the new measures take effect, will still be allowed to remain in the country under their current permitted stay until it expires. After the new rules come into force, incoming travellers must comply with the updated visa conditions.

Mangkorn also said the prime minister had signed an order appointing a new committee to regularly review Thailand's visa policies, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, to ensure visa measures remain aligned with current conditions in all dimensions.

Jean Kasaya, director of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, confirmed on May 19 that the Ebola death toll in the Democratic Republic of Congo has climbed to at least 131, with more than 513 suspected infections.
