4d ago Khaosod

On May 14, Nippon Bunyamani, former permanent secretary of the Ministry of Interior, along with executives from Siam International Food, a leading Thai pet wet food manufacturer, expanded their international market presence by exhibiting at Interzoo 2026, seeking to establish business partnerships and penetrate premium international markets in Nuremberg, Germany.

Interzoo 2026 runs from May 12–15 at Messe Nuremberg exhibition center and is the world's largest pet industry trade show, held biennially. This year features over 2,350 exhibitors from 70 countries across an area exceeding 150,000 square meters, attracting visitors from more than 140 countries worldwide.

Notably, this marks the first time in history that Thailand has its own pavilion at this event, reflecting international recognition of Thailand's pet industry potential.

Thailand has risen to become the world's second-largest exporter of dog and cat food in 2024, second only to Germany, with export value exceeding $2.677 billion, representing a 29 percent increase compared to the previous year. Key markets include the United States, Japan, Australia, Italy, and Malaysia.

The global pet industry continues steady growth, driven by increasing pet ownership trends among younger generations and seniors, combined with growing consumer focus on pet health that pushes demand for premium products. Thailand's pet food exports are projected to reach $3.1 billion in 2025, with potential to claim the world's number one position in the near future.

Check Before Installing Solar Panels: MEA Warns Against Poor Choices That Cost Money and Risk Electrical Hazards

Thailand's electrical authority warns homeowners to carefully vet solar panel installers, as poor installations risk electrical fires, shocks, and wasted money on underperforming systems.

4d ago Khaosod

The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) is expressing concern about the increasing number of residents interested in installing rooftop solar panel systems. MEA has issued guidance on selecting qualified installers to prevent potential hazards that could damage property and endanger lives.

When choosing a solar installation service, look for: - Reputable, stable providers with extensive experience and accessible support - Quality equipment certified to international standards - Qualified technicians or engineers overseeing the work - Minimum 1-2 year warranties covering installation and defects - Maintenance throughout the warranty period - Proper permits and approvals

Substandard solar installations can directly impact residential electrical systems through improper wiring, non-certified equipment, or structural damage that affects existing electrical lines. These problems can lead to short circuits, fires, or electrical shock hazards, risking both life and property. Additionally, non-standard installations may result in poor system performance, failing to reduce electricity bills as promised and creating future repair costs.

Thai police arrest Nigerian man for nearly 3-year overstay

A 29-year-old Nigerian man was arrested in Nonthaburi province after overstaying his visa for nearly three years, having entered on a tourist visa during Songkran 2023 and remaining in Thailand illegally supported by his Thai girlfriend.

4d ago Khaosod

NONTHABURI — May 14, 2026. Thai immigration police have arrested a Nigerian man accused of overstaying his visa for nearly three years after he allegedly remained in the country to live with his Thai girlfriend, authorities said.

The 29-year-old man was detained at a condominium in Nonthaburi province following a tip-off received through the Immigration Bureau's hotline, police said.

Investigators from Nonthaburi Immigration Police searched the condominium on Bangkok-Nonthaburi Road and found the suspect living on the 17th floor of the building.

Authorities said he entered Thailand on April 13, 2023 on a tourist visa during the Songkran holiday festival and repeatedly extended his stay. His most recent visa extension expired on June 6, 2024, after which he remained in the country illegally for 1,069 days, police said.

During questioning, the suspect told officers he travelled to Thailand to attend Songkran celebrations in Bangkok and later began a relationship with a Thai woman.

Police said he attempted to obtain a student visa through an educational institution in Nakhon Ratchasima province, but the application was rejected. He later continued extending his tourist visa before eventually overstaying.

The suspect reportedly told investigators he was unemployed and financially supported by his girlfriend.

Immigration officers charged him with remaining in Thailand after his permission to stay had expired, in violation of Thailand's Immigration Act. He was transferred to Muang Nonthaburi police station for further legal proceedings.

Thai officials seize 43 cattle near Cambodia border

Thai authorities seized 43 cattle suspected of being smuggled toward Cambodia during a border patrol operation in Sa Kaeo province. The animals were transferred to a quarantine station for disease testing after the suspected smugglers fled the scene. If no owner claims the livestock and tests show no disease, the cattle will be auctioned.

4d ago Khaosod

SA KAEO — On May 15, 2026, Thai livestock and security officials seized 43 cattle suspected of being smuggled toward the Cambodian border during a patrol operation in eastern Thailand.

The operation was led by Sa Kaeo Animal Quarantine Station chief Suphot Sangka and included livestock officials, border security forces, and Border Patrol Police.

Authorities said officers discovered a group of men herding two mixed-sex beef cattle herds near Ban Saeng village in Ta Phraya district, close to the Thai-Cambodian border.

When officials moved in to inspect the animals, the men fled into nearby forests and escaped. A subsequent search uncovered two separate groups of cattle—one with 13 animals and another with 30—totaling 43 head.

Because the cattle's origin could not be verified and authorities were concerned about potential disease transmission, the animals were transferred to the Sa Kaeo Animal Quarantine Station in Ta Phraya district.

Samples were collected for laboratory testing, and a police report was filed at Thap Thai police station.

If no infectious diseases are found and no owner comes forward to claim the cattle, the animals will be auctioned according to government regulations.

Building a Healthier Future Together: Why Taiwan and Thailand Are Essential Partners for Global Health

Peter Lan, Taiwan's representative in Thailand, argues that Taiwan and Thailand should deepen their health cooperation as the World Health Assembly approaches, citing shared challenges in aging populations and chronic diseases. Both countries have demonstrated success in healthcare innovation—Thailand through its Universal Health Coverage system and Taiwan through AI-driven disease management and early disease surveillance. Lan emphasizes that Taiwan's limited WHO participation represents a missed opportunity for global health security, despite Taiwan's proven contributions to international health initiatives.

4d ago Khaosod

This article is authored by Peter Lan, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand.

As the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA) approaches, the global community once again gathers to address the most pressing health challenges of our time. From the rising tide of noncommunicable diseases to the complexities of aging societies, the need for inclusive, science-based cooperation has never been more urgent. In this endeavor, Thailand stands as a beacon of leadership in Southeast Asia, and Taiwan stands ready to contribute as a vital, professional partner.

Thailand's Leadership: A Model for the Region

Thailand has long been recognized as a regional leader in public health, particularly through its Universal Health Coverage (UHC) system. In 2026, Thailand continues to champion science-based actions and health equity, emphasizing that health is a fundamental right. By hosting significant international health forums and actively participating in World Health Organization (WHO) initiatives, Thailand has demonstrated how strategic investment in primary healthcare can transform a nation's well-being.

Peter Lan, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand.

Taiwan and Thailand: Shared Visions and Synergistic Strengths

Taiwan and Thailand share a remarkably similar outlook on the future of healthcare. Both sides are navigating the transition into "super-aged" societies, smart healthcare and are pivoting toward high-tech, people-centered solutions.

Taiwan's "Healthy Taiwan" initiative, launched by President Lai Ching-te, focuses on extending healthy life expectancy and integrating physical and mental well-being. This aligns perfectly with Thailand's focus on holistic health. Our cooperation can yield transformative results in several key areas:

Digital Healthcare and AI: Taiwan has pioneered AI in chronic disease management, such as AI-based diabetes risk prediction models developed with partners like Google. These tools, linked with our National Health Insurance (NHI) system, allow for precise, personalized care.

Infectious Disease Surveillance: Taiwan's highly digitalized surveillance system successfully flagged the initial COVID-19 outbreak in late 2019. Our geographic proximity to regional hubs allows us to detect outbreaks early, providing a stronger early warning system for Southeast Asia.

Smart Long-Term Care: As populations age, Taiwan is deploying smart assistive technologies to reduce the burden on personnel. Sharing these innovations can help both sides maintain high-quality care amidst demographic shifts.

The Cost of Taiwan's Exclusion

Despite our proven track record—including achieving WHO hepatitis C elimination targets five years ahead of schedule in 2025—Taiwan's participation in the WHO remains limited. Between 2012 and 2025, Taiwan was invited to an average of only seven technical meetings per year.

This "blind spot" in the global health network is a risk for the entire world. When Taiwan is excluded from critical health discussions, the global community loses access to valuable expertise and innovative solutions.

Theng demands government clarify position after rejecting multiple bills, questions who has authority over legislation

Prachathai party leader Nattapong Ruangpanya questioned the government's authority to reject multiple bills during parliament's first joint session, demanding clarification on why environmental protection, labor, and constitutional amendmen

4d ago Khaosod

At 9:30 AM on May 15, 2025, at parliament during the first joint parliamentary session chaired by Sophan Saram, parliament speaker, an urgent agenda item addressed approval to consider draft laws not yet endorsed by parliament under Article 147, second paragraph of the constitution. Nattapong Ruangpanya, Prachathai party list MP and party leader, noted appreciation for the cabinet's decision to return 34 bills for parliament to consider which to advance. However, he questioned the government's criteria for deciding which bills to return and which to reject, requesting clear explanation for rejecting environmental protection laws, the PRTR law, factory act drafts, land amnesty legislation, labor protection bills, and military court constitutional amendments.

Nattapong challenged the government on whether legislative authority belongs to the cabinet or parliament, questioning whether the cabinet can decide on behalf of MPs. He then posed a counterargument: if using the same logic applied to the rejected constitutional amendment draft—claiming it would fail regardless—how can the government guarantee all 34 bills will pass parliament? He suggested the government must have already secured approval through back-channel negotiations with both chambers.

Nattapong concluded by requesting government response rather than legal technical explanations, asking what criteria the cabinet uses to select which bills to return, and whether the nation's constitutional framework has become merely a tool granting power to the government and military-aligned system.

Former accountant Prapai was arrested in Nakhon Nayok after nine years on the run for embezzling nearly 400,000 baht in customer checks, with just 19 days remaining before the statute of limitations expired.

4d ago Khaosod

On May 14, 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Pattanasak Bubphasuwan, commander of the Crime Suppression Division, ordered officers Suriyansakdi Jirawat and Eaksitthisak Inthoelo to apprehend Prapai (surname withheld), age 56, based on an arrest warrant from the Bangkok South Criminal Court dated August 3, 2016, charging her with embezzlement of employer property. She was captured in the Ban Yai subdistrict of Nakhon Nayok province.

The case originated in August 2016 when a private company filed a police report at Palat Plachay 1 Police Station after discovering fraudulent activity. Prapai, who worked as the company's accountant, had diverted three customer checks intended as payment to the company into her own bank account:

- February 1, 2016: 123,200 baht - May 3, 2016: 81,251 baht - June 1, 2016: 178,746 baht Total losses: 383,197 baht

After the company verified the facts with the bank, Prapai initially confessed to depositing the checks into her personal account but subsequently fled and became untraceable. She remained a fugitive for over nine years until her arrest. During interrogation, she confessed to all charges and has been transferred to Palat Plachay 1 Police Station for legal proceedings.
