**New Electricity Rate Structure:**
Group 1: Consumers using up to 200 units per month pay no more than 3 baht per unit (down from 3.88 baht), covering about 15.4 million small households and homes without air conditioning.
Group 2: Consumers using 201-400 units per month pay the standard rate of 3.95 baht per unit.
Group 3: Consumers using over 400 units pay higher rates reflecting actual costs, encouraging electricity conservation or solar panel installation.
Energy Minister Eknath Promsup stated this measure covers over 21-23 million residences (approximately 90% of the country). Homes using less than 200 units will see rates drop by about 20%, while those exceeding 200 units will benefit from discounted rates on the first 200 units, reducing overall bills by 10-15%.
**Solar Cells: Not Just an Option, But a Necessity**
For households using over 400 units—whether due to large families, medical equipment needs, or home-based businesses—solar panels have become less of a choice and more of a lifeline against the energy crisis.
