Police have arrested a group of Myanmar teenagers accused of attacking a 16-year-old Thai boy in a 10-on-1 assault. The incident occurred on Sukhumvit Road near Chong Lom Temple in Bang Lamung District, Chachoengsao Province, after a social media post describing the attack went viral. Officers from Bang Lamung Police Station, tourist police, and immigration officials apprehended the entire gang for questioning on May 18-19, 2025.
All suspects admitted to participating in the assault. However, one member of the Myanmar group told investigators that Thai youths had first threatened them with a gun-like object to steal a pair of Converse shoes, and that they only intervened to help their friend. He requested that police review CCTV footage from before the incident to verify his claim of self-defense.
Police stated they will conduct a thorough re-examination of both parties' statements and coordinate with relevant agencies, including child welfare professionals since a minor was involved. Both sides will face charges if evidence proves wrongdoing. The 'Thai Won't Tolerate' activist group, which closely followed the case, expressed satisfaction with the swift police response and successful apprehension of all suspects.
