Mohamed Salah, Liverpool's star forward, has posted on social media expressing his desire to see Liverpool return to their aggressive, dominant style of play—what he calls their "heavy metal" approach—despite the painful defeats that come with it.
Under manager Arne Slot, Liverpool has underperformed significantly this season, failing to win any major titles and currently sitting fifth in the Premier League table, uncertain whether they will secure a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League. The team suffered a crushing 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa on May 15, prompting Salah to share his feelings ahead of what appears to be his final match with the club this coming weekend.
"I have seen this club transform from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions," Salah said. "It took hard work, and I did everything I could to help the club reach that point. Nothing has made me more proud than that."
"Losing again this season has been painful, and it's not what our fans deserve," he continued. "I want to see Liverpool return as that heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear, and return as champions. That's the football I know should be played, and that's the identity that needs to come back and be protected. There can be no compromise, and everyone who joins this club should adapt to it."
Salah emphasized that inconsistent results fall short of Liverpool's standards. "Winning sometimes and losing sometimes is not what Liverpool should be. Any team can pick up wins," he stated.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the club's success: "Liverpool will always mean a great deal to me and my family. I want to see it succeed long after I'm gone. As I've always said, qualifying for the Champions League next season is the minimum target, and I'll do everything I can to achieve that."
