On May 26, 2569, Dr. Nathpong Wongwiwat, Director-General of the Medical Department under the Ministry of Public Health, stated that the Medical Department has developed academic expertise and advanced technology for patient care, demonstrating excellence across multiple specialties. The department is committed to advancing tertiary-level specialized medical services to ensure all citizens have equal access to treatment for complex diseases with consistent standards across all regions, thereby improving survival rates and reducing disabilities.
Among the Medical Department's diverse technologies and innovations, personalized prosthetic eyes have been developed over many years. The Prosthetic Eye Center at Metta Pracharaksa Hospital (Wat Rai Khing) provides customized prosthetic eyes to patients who have lost vision or eyes.
Dr. Kittiwat Manojanchan, Director of Metta Pracharaksa Hospital (Wat Rai Khing), announced that the Social Security Office has now opened access for Social Security beneficiaries to use their benefits for personalized prosthetic eyes. Although the procedure is relatively expensive, the Social Security Office will cover medical service fees based on individual patient needs, with the following cost breakdown:
- Personalized prosthetic eye: 5,000 baht per eye - Clear prosthetic eye for expanding the eye socket: 1,500 baht each - Eye assessment and prosthetic eye fitting: 500 baht - Eye printing: 500 baht - Service fee for fitting day: 600 baht
Benefit usage follows the conditions set by each patient's Social Security Office.
"To achieve good quality of life and equal integration into society with others, caring for patients' mental health is as important as treating physical illness. This helps patients return to normal life in society and restore their confidence to live fully again. Previously, prosthetic eye services could only be claimed under civil servant benefits. The universal health insurance scheme has submitted a proposal for consideration, and currently, Social Security beneficiaries can now use their benefits for personalized prosthetic eyes.
Interested beneficiaries can contact the Prosthetic Eye Center at Metta Pracharaksa Hospital (Wat Rai Khing) at 034-318-202 during office hours for inquiries and services," Dr. Kittiwat stated.
