At 12:20 PM on May 26, 2025, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Siam Bunyasorn ordered Deputy Commissioner Pallab Aem-la to oversee the investigation, working with other senior officers to locate Salo. They found the 59-year-old Finnish former F1 driver staying at a hotel in the Sukhumvit area. During initial questioning, Salo stated he was unaware of what had struck him in the Sukhumvit area. Police subsequently brought him to Lumpini Police Station for further questioning.
The case has attracted significant media coverage from Finnish news outlets such as Ilta-Sanomat and Helsingin Sanomat, which reported the incident occurred while Salo was crossing a zebra crossing near a Bangkok hotel.
Salo described feeling only a "light impact" from the motorcycle passing very close to him and continued walking for a few more steps before a bystander shouted that blood was pouring from his leg. Looking down, he saw his shoe was soaked with blood.
