No Excuses! Anuthina Orders BMTA and State Railway to Share Responsibility, Aims to Reduce Rail Crossing Points to Cut Accidents
Prime Minister Anuthina ordered BMTA and State Railway to jointly assist victims of a bus-train collision and implement safety measures including reducing rail crossing points to prevent future accidents.
At 2:30 p.m. on May 17, 2026, at Camillian Hospital, Prime Minister Anuthina Charnvirakul and Interior Minister gave an interview regarding relief for the injured and deceased from a freight train collision with a bus. He stated guidelines have been provided and an investigation into the cause is underway, along with insurance coverage review. Anuthina directed both BMTA and SRT to take full responsibility for assisting the injured and deceased, as the incident occurred while using state transportation services. He emphasized that since both agencies collect fares—they are not providing free service—they must take complete responsibility. Insurance payouts would be supplementary. Addressing the psychological impact, Anuthina noted that all victims and witnesses suffer from PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) requiring both physical and mental health recovery. He visited all affected parties, particularly the bus driver and ticket collector, whose mental states are severely compromised due to guilt, though legal proceedings will follow the law. Regarding prevention measures, Anuthina stated the need to reduce the number of rail crossing points, potentially through tunneling or rerouting, rather than relying solely on station operators giving signals, as human error is possible. He ordered both agencies to work together on preventive measures without hesitation, awaiting investigation results before determining compensation figures.
