Somrak Praises Referee's Composure Despite Being Punched – Urges Muay Thai Camp to Train Staff

Olympic champion Somrak Kamsing praised a referee's composure after being punched by a Cha Ha Phayak camp trainer at World Siam Stadium on May 25, urging muay thai camps to better train their staff.

9h ago Khaosod

In the incident involving Malako S. Todsapol, trainer for Nong Giff at Cha Ha Phayak, who punched a referee after disagreeing with a decision in a Thai Boxing Alliance bout at World Siam Stadium in Tawanchai on May 25, 2026, Olympic gold medalist and muay thai legend Somrak Kamsing has responded. Somrak, who was present at the event, stated that from his analysis, rounds 2, 3, and 5 were correctly awarded to the blue corner fighter Mafia. He expressed disappointment that supporters resorted to punching the referee, calling it inexcusable, especially from members of a major camp. He urged the camp to conduct training for its staff.

"The boxer genuinely lost to the other fighter, winning only round 4 and a bit," Somrak said. "We should applaud the referee for doing an excellent job. He remained calm despite being punched and didn't retaliate. That shows good emotional control, because if he had retaliated, the situation could have become much worse. I want to urge all boxers to accept the referee's decision."

He also noted that while people often criticize referees, this time everyone is criticizing the person who threw the punch. "We need to reflect carefully on this. It should be a lesson for the muay thai community to move forward, not backward," he added.

Nattapong Khunaksorn, stadium manager for World Siam Stadium in Tawanchai, has announced a ban on the individual responsible from entering the stadium indefinitely.

PF Accelerates Asset Sales to Service Bond Interest Payments and Employee Salaries, Plans Workforce Reduction of Over 100 Staff Amid 40-Year Sales Low

Property Perfect is accelerating asset sales worth over 2 billion baht, including Silom office buildings and riverfront land, to cover bond payments and salaries as it faces 40-year low sales and plans to cut over 100 jobs.

9h ago Khaosod

Property Perfect (PF) is advancing its liquidity management following the completion of all scheduled bond interest payments in May, while accelerating the sale of assets including Silom-area office buildings and Chao Phraya riverfront land valued at over 2 billion baht to strengthen cash flow. The company is also reorganizing its structure and reducing its workforce by over 100 employees after posting first-quarter sales representing a 40-year low.

Sanit Artanasksul, CEO of Property Perfect Public Company Limited, revealed that the company has successfully paid the PF263A bond interest due on May 25, 2025, following completion of nine other bond interest payments due in May 2025. These include five bonds maturing between May 7-11 (PF264A, PF265B, PF268A, PF25NA, and PF258B) and four bonds maturing on May 18-19 (PF258A, PF265A, PF268B, and PF26NA).

Following the bond interest payments, Sanit stated that the company plans to enhance liquidity to ensure full payment of employee salaries, with asset sales progressing as scheduled. The company has agreed to sell a six-story office building on Silom Road worth 150 million baht and 8 rai of riverside land near IconSiam valued at 2 billion baht, from which the company holds a 9% stake in the joint venture and expects to receive funds within three months.

Some asset sales have been delayed due to global economic uncertainty and Middle East conflicts affecting the investment climate. However, the company believes the situation is becoming clearer and anticipates improved momentum for other business transactions.

The company will continue implementing cost-control measures and operational efficiency improvements through organizational downsizing and reduction of over 100 employees in the second half of the year, with human resource management aligned to current business directions.

"In Q1 2025, our sales hit a 40-year low, requiring us to accelerate new strategies to boost sales for both housing and condominium projects," Sanit said, adding that the company plans to implement a new standard housing construction strategy emphasizing environmental conservation and reduced household expenses, while improving quality of life through upgraded club facilities converted into health centers. The company will also integrate AI systems into real estate business management.

Thai Trade Representative Pushes for FTA with Kazakhstan and Eurasian Economic Union

Thailand and Kazakhstan agreed to pursue a free trade agreement and strengthen economic ties during talks at the THAIFEX-ANUGA Asia event, with plans to establish a joint trade committee in September to facilitate cooperation across rare ea

9h ago Khaosod

Thailand's Trade Representative Veerapong Prachabpaisal revealed on May 25 that he held discussions with Bakutuli Bakutnor, Deputy Governor of Almaty Region in Kazakhstan, along with government and private sector officials during Kazakhstan's delegation visit to the THAIFEX-ANUGA Asia event. The discussions focused on economic cooperation and strengthening trade relations between Thailand and Kazakhstan.

Thailand and Kazakhstan are prepared to become strategic trade partners amid volatile global economic conditions, aiming to promote comprehensive trade cooperation by linking supply chains not only between the two countries but also across Central Asia, connecting to Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Priority areas include rare earth resources, energy, advanced food processing, and high-tech industries such as digital technology, semiconductors, AI, and cloud services.

Both parties agreed to accelerate support for connecting government and private sector entities of Thailand and Kazakhstan to develop cooperation in workforce development, trade information exchange, and business matching. Veerapong invited Kazakhstani business people to participate in Ministry of Commerce trade promotion activities in 2569, particularly the "TILOG Logistix" logistics and cargo management technology exhibition scheduled for August 19-21 and the "Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair" international jewelry exhibition set for September 8-12.

Veerapong stated that both sides agreed to hold the first Thailand-Kazakhstan Joint Trade Committee meeting, expected in September 2569, to serve as a crucial mechanism for driving trade and economic cooperation. This will provide a foundation for advancing cooperation toward a future Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Thailand and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Kazakhstan expressed readiness to support and encourage EAEU members to expedite FTA negotiations.

During the final discussions, Kazakhstan demonstrated commitment to elevating cooperation with Thailand in innovative agricultural technology development, investment protection measures, and tax and customs cooperation. Kazakhstan is also prepared to expand collaboration in tourism, trade, and services, aiming to establish both countries as a regional economic gateway.

Kazakhstan ranks as Thailand's second-largest trade partner in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and EAEU member countries, and 90th globally. Thailand-Kazakhstan bilateral trade in 2568 totaled $170.43 million, with Thai exports valued at $93.40 million and imports at $77.03 million. Thailand's key exports to Kazakhstan include automobiles and components, machinery and parts, rubber products, refined oil, and jewelry.

Acting President of World Sepaktakraw Federation Says Thailand Should Not Forfeit, Urges Cooperation with Federation to Mitigate Penalties

Thailand's World Cup sepaktakraw team walked out of the final in Malaysia, but the International Sepaktakraw Federation's acting president says they should have filed a formal protest instead, warning that forfeiture could lead to bans from

9h ago Khaosod

Bunjai, acting president of the International Sepaktakraw Federation, stated that Thailand should not abandon the match midway, arguing that the referee's decision was correct. He urged Thailand to cooperate with the federation to process disciplinary measures and reduce the impact of potential penalties.

The controversy erupted during the ISTAF Sepaktakraw World Cup 2026 final in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last weekend. The Thai national team faced host Malaysia but refused to continue play after disagreeing with referee Muhammad Radi's calls, creating a drama that could result in Thailand being banned from international competitions, including the upcoming Asian Games in Japan.

On May 26, Bunjai Lor Phiphat, acting president of the International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF), disclosed that the matter must follow proper procedures. He pointed out that the Thai team's method of refusing to play was inappropriate. The correct procedure, used in all competitions including SEA Games, Asian Games, and World Championships, is to lodge a formal protest within 30 minutes after the match ends. However, walking out damages tournament organizers, particularly in match management and live broadcasting.

Bunjai noted that similar incidents have occurred before, including during the 31st King's Cup in Thailand in 2016, when the Malaysian team was unhappy with a Vietnamese referee's decision and refused to continue playing in front of the royal representative. The federation's disciplinary committee investigated and found a violation, imposing penalties on those involved.

"In this case, we have established procedures to follow," Bunjai said. "The federation will invite relevant parties to clarify details and ensure fairness to all sides before the committee decides on penalties. Initial punishments could range from match bans to suspensions of involved officials, depending on the severity of the violation."

Bunjai further explained that athletes must understand the rules correctly. Regarding the specific moment, two issues occurred simultaneously: a line violation and what the Thai team interpreted as a net block foul. Thailand challenged the call, and the challenge showed no net block foul had occurred. However, the line violation and foot intrusion into the opponent's court constituted another foul with clear photographic evidence. Therefore, the referee's decision was correct, and athletes should have continued playing and then filed protests if desired on other points, such as alleged bias. This is separate from the walk-out issue.

"Over the past several decades of sepaktakraw refereeing, there have been cases of far more obvious bias than this, but players should continue playing and lodge proper protests."

Unilever Plants Thailand as Global Innovation Hub, Pushes Accessible Quality Products with AI, Digital, and Sustainability Focus for 2025

Unilever is positioning Thailand as a global innovation and manufacturing hub while committing to keep quality products affordable amid rising cost-of-living pressures, leveraging AI and digital technology to drive growth in 2025.

9h ago Khaosod

Aseem Puri, Chairman and CEO of Unilever Thailand, announced the company's 2025 business direction, committing to strong growth despite global economic challenges and weakened consumer spending power. The core mission is ensuring consumers can access quality products at the most reasonable prices possible.

The company recognizes that today's consumers face cost-of-living pressures and worry about rising prices. Therefore, Unilever's key responsibility is maintaining affordable price levels and minimizing or avoiding price increases where possible through better cost management.

"Consumers today face pressure on living costs and worry whether products will become more expensive. Our responsibility is to keep quality products accessible at the most suitable prices," Puri said.

Unilever also aims to position Thailand as a center for innovation, research, and manufacturing for export to global markets, particularly in beauty and Thai food products, which enjoy international recognition. Currently, the company manufactures products in Thailand for export to over 60 countries worldwide, with exports exceeding 100 million units. Key markets span South Asia, Japan, Korea, Australia, and Europe.

"What we produce in Thailand isn't just for domestic sales—it must reach the global market. Thai products, especially beauty and food, have international recognition," Puri noted.

Unilever continues investing consistently in Thailand across factories, research and development, technology, marketing, and workforce development to support long-term growth, viewing Thailand as a strategically important regional market.

The company prioritizes integrating digital technology and AI across all business processes—from consumer data analysis and product innovation to digital marketing and e-commerce. It partners with major technology providers including Google, TikTok, and various digital platforms to enhance marketing and sales efficiency.

"AI and digital will be the core of future business. We use data analytics to understand consumer needs and continuously develop innovations and new solutions," Puri said.

Regarding current Thai consumer behavior trends, Unilever found that consumers haven't reduced quality standards despite economic slowdown; instead, they prioritize better value. They compare prices, wait for promotions, and increasingly purchase larger sizes or economy packs.

"Thai consumers still want quality products but with better value—choosing larger packs or refill bags because they save money and last longer," Puri explained.

The company also observes that e-commerce continues growing, with Thai consumers comparing prices across multiple channels—retail stores, convenience stores, and online platforms—before making purchase decisions.

Thailand orders 21-day quarantine for arrivals from Congo and Uganda over rising Ebola threat

Thailand has implemented a mandatory 21-day quarantine for all arrivals from Congo and Uganda due to rising Ebola cases, replacing an unenforceable self-monitoring system that allowed travelers to change locations frequently.

9h ago Khaosod

BANGKOK — Thailand has imposed mandatory 21-day quarantine on all travellers arriving from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, effective immediately, as Ebola cases in both countries continue to rise.

The Ministry of Public Health announced the upgraded measures following a meeting of the National Communicable Disease Committee on 26 May. Permanent Secretary Dr. Somruek Chuengsamarn said the decision came after the previous self-monitoring system proved difficult to enforce.

Under the old measures, travellers from the two countries were required to report their whereabouts and monitor their own symptoms for 21 days. However, authorities found that some individuals changed hotels multiple times after arrival, making them hard to track. Hotels had also begun turning away guests from high-risk areas.

Officials said an average of five to seven travellers from Congo and Uganda enter Thailand daily via connecting flights, as no direct routes exist. That number has climbed in recent days, peaking at 19 arrivals in one day. Roughly 100 travellers from both countries have entered Thailand in total, with more expected.

All new arrivals from the two countries must now enter a government quarantine facility immediately upon landing, regardless of whether they show symptoms. The Bamrasnaradura Institute will serve as the primary quarantine site, with Department of Disease Control staff monitoring those in quarantine daily.

Costs will be covered by authorities for the first 72 hours. After that, travellers will bear the expenses themselves. Thai nationals will be exempt from charges. Only those who originated from Congo or Uganda are subject to quarantine — passengers on the same connecting flights from other countries are not affected.

Dr. Somruek said no travel ban is currently planned, but that measures will be reviewed regularly based on the situation in both countries. He noted that Thailand's response already goes beyond World Health Organization guidelines.

Stepfather Arrested for Murder of 13-Year-Old Girl and Attack on Mother

A 38-year-old stepfather with a history of sexual assault was arrested while fleeing on a motorcycle in Nong Bua Lamphu after his 13-year-old stepdaughter was found dead in a bathroom and her mother left severely injured.

9h ago Khaosod

NONG BUA LAMPHU — A 38-year-old man with a prior conviction for sexual assault was arrested on Monday afternoon while attempting to flee on a motorcycle, following the discovery of his 13-year-old stepdaughter's body and a brutal attack on his partner.

The suspect, identified by police only as Pornchai, 38, was apprehended at 14:10 on Monday on a rural road connecting Ban Don Klet and Ban Non Muang Noi in Sri Boon Ruang District.

The arrest followed a tragic discovery earlier that day. Pol. Lt. Col. Pichetphong Ratchabuakhot, an interrogation officer at Sri Boon Ruang Police Station, received a report at 12:30 regarding a fatality at a residence in Ban Mai Tanthawan, Nong Kung Kaeo Subdistrict.

At the scene, authorities located the body of a 13-year-old girl, a Matthayom 1 student from the area, in a bathroom at the rear of the property. The victim had been bound, and forensic evidence indicated she had been physically and sexually assaulted before her death. Her body was transferred to Loei Provincial Hospital for a formal forensic autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Outside the residence, authorities found the victim's 32-year-old mother with severe, deep lacerations to her head and face. According to neighbors and family members, she had been attacked and rendered unconscious, remaining trapped inside the home for two days before regaining consciousness Monday morning. She was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment.

Investigation and Timeline

Police investigators determined the 13-year-old victim typically lived with her maternal grandparents in a neighboring village. However, on Friday, May 22, she traveled to her mother and stepfather's residence in Ban Mai Tanthawan to visit them and attend the local Rocket Festival (Bun Bang Fai) scheduled for Saturday.

When the child failed to return home as expected, her grandfather searched for her at the village and school without success.

Separately, a local resident visited the property Monday morning to retrieve a motorcycle the family had borrowed on Friday to access an ATM in town. Upon arrival, the resident discovered the severely injured mother outside the home and immediately alerted relatives and emergency services.

Suspect Intercepted and Tests Positive for Drugs

Following the discovery of the homicide, Sri Boon Ruang District Chief Thanayut Yaikaew, acting in his capacity as an Office of the Narcotics Control Board official, coordinated with local administrative staff, village leaders, and Sri Boon Ruang Police to establish checkpoints along potential escape routes.

Administrative officers spotted Pornchai operating a red-and-white Yamaha motorcycle leaving the subdistrict. Officials successfully intercepted and detained him on a village road.

While a physical search yielded no illicit items, a mandatory drug screening returned positive for methamphetamine.

Princess Sirivannavari opened a major exhibition of Thai royal fashion at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, showcasing over 200 pieces as Thailand and France marked 170 years of diplomatic relations. The exhibition runs until November

9h ago Khaosod

Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana opened a major exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris titled "La Mode en Majesté: Royal Thai Dress from Tradition to Modernity," showcasing the evolution of Thai royal fashion and its global influence as Thailand and France celebrated 170 years of diplomatic relations.

The exhibition brings together more than 200 pieces spanning seven galleries, including royal garments, antique textiles, handicrafts, and contemporary creations by Thai designers. Princess Sirivannavari, dressed in traditional Siwalai Thai national costume, presided over the opening ceremony attended by Thai cabinet ministers, ambassadors, and international dignitaries, who were then guided through all seven gallery spaces.

Following the exhibition tour, guests attended a gala dinner prepared by CODA Bangkok, a Michelin one-star restaurant, featuring contemporary Thai cuisine prepared with modern culinary techniques. Tables were decorated with intricate handicrafts produced under the Foundation for the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques, including lacquer boxes repurposed as vases, woven baskets, and handcrafted silver animal sculptures by hill tribe artisans.

The exhibition is organized under Princess Sirivannavari's patronage through collaboration between the Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand, the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles, the Royal Thai Embassy in Paris, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. It will remain open to the public until November 1, 2026.

In recognition of her contributions to promoting French culture in Thailand and strengthening bilateral ties, the French government awarded Princess Sirivannavari the rank of Grand Officier of the Légion d'Honneur, one of France's highest honors. The recognition coincided with celebrations of the 340th anniversary of first contact between Siam and France in 2025 and the 170th anniversary of formal Thai-French diplomatic relations in 2026.
