Cycling Chief Delighted as Phichit Two-Wheeled Championship Draws Nearly 800 Athletes
Nearly 800 cyclists competed in Thailand's BMX and children's bike championships in Phichit Province from May 22-24, with athletes honored to race at a venue where Her Majesty the Queen rode in March 2024.
Thailand's BMX Championship Round 3 and Children's Pedal-Powered Bike Championship Round 1 in Phichit Province, held May 22-24, proved exceptionally popular with nearly 800 athlete registrations. BMX competitors expressed enthusiasm about riding in the footsteps of Her Majesty the Queen at the Saranachit Mongkhon Suk cycling venue. General Decha Megaraj, vice president of the Asian Cycling Confederation and president of the Thai Cycling Association, revealed that the association coordinated with Phichit Province to organize the events as Round 3 of the Thailand BMX Championship and Round 1 of the Thailand Children's Pedal-Powered Bike Championship at the Saranachit Mongkhon Suk venue (Bung Si Fai) from May 22-24, with live streaming on Facebook and YouTube through Thailand Cycling Association channels.
General Decha stated the BMX championship opening ceremony will occur May 22 at 8:30 a.m. at the bird observation tower within Bung Si Fai, presided over by Thaniya Nayapinit, Phichit Governor. The children's championship opening ceremony will take place May 24 at 8:30 a.m., presided over by Kritthai Pensupa, Phichit Provincial Administrative Organization Chairman.
General Decha noted substantial athlete participation in both events, with nearly 800 competitors registered for BMX and children's categories combined. BMX cyclists expressed pride in competing in the footsteps of Her Majesty after she rode the BMX bike at the venue on March 23, 2024, marking the first competition following the Royal opening. The Thai Cycling Association will hold a royal blessing ceremony for Her Majesty on June 3, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Huamark Velodrome.
Chairat Tomdoen, a BMX athlete from Sisatchanalai BMX Racing team, stated this was his first opportunity to compete at Saranachit Mongkhon Suk, calling it a blessing to ride in Her Majesty's footsteps at the scenic venue beside Bung Si Fai, which attracted many athletes wanting to compete.
Hataipetch Chaiswang, a cyclist from the Fisherman Friend Rama 3 team, noted that all athletes competing in Her Majesty's footsteps at Saranachit Mongkhon Suk following her March 23, 2024, ride at the venue considered it a great honor.
