Arsenal Maintains Title Contention After Dramatic Victory Over West Ham

Arsenal maintained their Premier League title lead with a dramatic 1-0 victory over West Ham on May 10, secured after VAR ruled out a late West Ham goal for a handball offense in the penalty box.

10 May Khaosod

Arsenal claimed three vital points that improved their chances of capturing the Premier League title after visiting West Ham United in the London Derby, a dramatic encounter that required VAR's intervention during the closing stages of the English Premier League 2025-26 season on May 10. West Ham United opened their doors at the London Stadium to welcome Arsenal. From the opening nine minutes, Arsenal nearly broke through when Declan Rice sent a corner from the left flank to the far post where Leandro Trossard jumped and headed, only to see Mads Hermansen deflect it away. West Ham's defense cleared the ball but it returned to Trossard, whose shot struck the post. In the 22nd minute, Rice launched a free kick from the left wing into the box where Ricardo Calafiori nodded and nearly beat the goalkeeper, but Konstantinos Mavropanos intervened with his foot to deny the attempt. In the 45th minute, Aaron Wan-Bissaka received the ball on the right flank and sent it into the penalty area for Valentín Castellanos, whose powerful shot was brilliantly saved by David Raya, keeping the score 0-0 at halftime.

In the second half at the 75th minute, West Ham had a brief chance when Jarrod Bowen controlled the ball and cut inward on the right side of the penalty box before crossing, but the ball deflected toward goal and Raya had to tip it away. In the 78th minute, Matheus Fernandes received the ball and clashed with Pablo, allowing Fernandes to enter a wide-open penalty area, but his shot was superbly blocked by Raya's positioning. In the 83rd minute, Martin Ødegaard created space and passed to Leandro Trossard, who fired past the block of a West Ham player, sending the ball into the net to give Arsenal a 1-0 lead.

In the 90th+5 minute, a dramatic moment unfolded when West Ham earned a corner from the right flank. Jarrod Bowen crossed into the box and Arsenal failed to clear, allowing Callum Wilson to fire a shot that appeared to cross the goal line. However, the referee consulted VAR and determined that Pablo had used his arm to block David Raya's jump for the ball in the six-yard box, ruling it a foul. West Ham was denied the goal, and Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory.

After 36 matches, Arsenal increased their points to 79 and maintained their lead, sitting five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, though Arsenal has played one more match. West Ham remained on 36 points in 18th place, desperately fighting to avoid relegation. This result left only two teams in the drop zone—West Ham and 17th-place Tottenham Hotspur—as 15th-place Nottingham Forest and 16th-place Leeds United held a 7-point advantage over West Ham, but West Ham had only two remaining matches to play.

Other results: Burnley drew with Aston Villa 2-2, Crystal Palace drew with Everton 2-2, and Nottingham Forest drew with Newcastle United 1-1.

The father rescued two boys, but an 8-year-old drowned on the evening of May 10, 2569. Officers from Pluak Daeng Police Station in Rayong responded to reports of missing children in the reservoir near Soi 3 and Soi 4, Moo 1, Tambon Pluak Daeng, coordinating rescue teams and divers. At the scene, family members were found in deep distress. The preliminary investigation revealed that the family had come to the reservoir for recreation, with the father fishing nearby by boat while the three boys played in the water along the banks. Suddenly, a violent wind gust swept all three boys into the deep channel. Frightened and crying for help, the boys were swept underwater. Upon hearing their screams, the father urgently paddled back and managed to grab only two of them, while eight-year-old Satang was pulled under the current and drowned before their eyes. Over 50 rescue personnel, equipped with diving gear, conducted a search for more than an hour until they found the boy's body underwater. The body was brought to shore for preliminary examination by a medical examiner and police pathologist before being sent for detailed autopsy at Pluak Daeng Hospital.

The Journey of Namphuing Kanthira: From Stateless Child to Thailand's Miss World 2026 Contestant

Namphuing Kanthira Techapatthanaakul, crowned Miss World Thailand 2026, has overcome extraordinary challenges—she was once a stateless child with no basic rights or documentation. Now she advocates for stateless youth through her DARE YOUR DREAM project, which has provided educational opportunities for over four years, and recently participated in UNHCR meetings with 16 countries to address statelessness issues regionally.

10 May Khaosod

Thailand now has a representative competing for the Miss World crown after Namphuing Kanthira Techapatthanaakul was crowned Miss World Thailand 2026, offering another glimmer of hope for Thai pageant enthusiasts seeking to make history on the world stage.

The 25-year-old grew up in a Thai Yai ethnic family in Chiang Rai province. Unlike many others, her life did not begin with advantages—she was once a stateless child who lacked even basic rights including access to education, freedom of movement, or security for the future. However, instead of surrendering to these limitations, Namphuing chose to use her life as proof that "life circumstances" cannot determine where dreams lead.

In 2019, she was selected to represent Thai youth in a science project competition in the United States. However, a critical opportunity nearly slipped away when her visa was denied due to her lack of Thai nationality. While this might have defeated many, for Namphuing it became motivation to push forward relentlessly. After obtaining Thai citizenship, she successfully competed and won a Special Award from USAID for humanitarian assistance for her research on developing seed coatings made from local rubber trees to increase survival rates of rain-fed rice crops—demonstrating genuine commitment to using science to improve community quality of life.

Namephuing graduated from the Medical Technology program at Chiang Mai University and served as president of the student association, showcasing leadership and dedication to public service. She currently works as a medical technician, a profession reflecting her commitment to caring for people through health science knowledge.

She has been invited to meetings with UNHCR alongside representatives from 16 countries to exchange solutions on statelessness at the regional level—a significant step for someone once "invisible to the system" who has become an important voice for those facing similar circumstances.

A key aspect of her identity is driving the "DARE YOUR DREAM" project, which creates educational opportunities for stateless and unregistered children and youth in Thailand—work she has pursued for over four years. The project believes "education" is the key to opening doors to better futures for all children.

The initiative aims to provide universal and equitable access to basic education while advancing higher education opportunities, life skills development, and hope for the next generation so they can grow with quality and secure career prospects. "DARE YOUR DREAM" also aims to expand educational opportunities to international levels to ensure stateless children receive equitable rights to education globally.

Namephuing and the DARE YOUR DREAM project believe that "education, opportunity, and hope are essential keys to opening doors to the future for stateless children," as when all children and youth receive equal opportunities, they can truly thrive.

Israel Launches Fresh Strikes on Hezbollah; Lebanese Civilians Caught in Crossfire as Death Toll Exceeds 120

Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have killed at least 39 people in a single day, with the Lebanese Health Ministry reporting over 120 deaths from attacks in the past week. A strike on the southern town of Saksakiyeh killed at least seven people including a child, prompting the IDF to acknowledge reports of civilian casualties and pledge investigation. The violence continues despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire, as Israel says the agreement does not cover Hezbollah operations.

10 May Khaosod

Israel Launches Fresh Strikes on Hezbollah – On May 10, the BBC reported that Lebanon's Health Ministry revealed at least 39 deaths from Israeli airstrikes on Saturday, May 9 local time, including strikes on the southern Lebanese town of Saksakiyeh which killed at least seven people, including one girl, and wounded 15 others, three of them children.

The Lebanese government stated that over 120 people have been killed in Israeli attacks over the past week, including women and children, with the ministry not distinguishing between civilians and Hezbollah fighters.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that it targeted Hezbollah armed groups, saying "Hezbollah terrorists operating within structures used for military purposes. Before the strike, measures were taken to minimize civilian risk to the greatest extent possible, including the use of high-precision ammunition and aerial surveillance." However, the IDF acknowledged reports of harm to uninvolved civilians and said it is investigating further.

Israeli and Hezbollah forces continue to clash despite a ceasefire agreement announced by U.S. President Donald Trump between the Israeli government and Lebanon on April 16, with Israel previously stating the agreement does not cover Hezbollah, designated as a terrorist organization.

Veteran Red-Shirt Leader Encourages Supporters Gathering for 'Thaksin's' Release, Hails Him as 'PM in the Hearts of the People'

10 May Khaosod

At 7 p.m. on May 10, 2025, the area outside Klongprem Central Prison was bustling with activity as Prom Phongpanich Nopruitti, former spokesman for the Pheu Thai Party, arrived to rally supporters gathered to welcome Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister, who is scheduled for release on May 11. Prom Phongpanich spoke with a broad smile, expressing excitement similar to that of a "student" counting down to a release date, just like Thaksin, having himself served four months in prison and reporting monthly according to regulations.

Prom Phongpanich emphasized that he deeply understands the feelings of those who fought in politics to the highest levels and faced difficult times in prison. He said his visit represented a shared political destiny. The former party spokesman also delivered an important message to society, stating that it was time for all sides to forgive one another. Forgiveness is not a sign of weakness but rather the strength of Thai society to move forward. He stressed that resentment has never solved economic problems, never lowered electricity bills, or improved people's quality of life.

Prom Phongpanich concluded by noting that Thaksin draws tremendous morale from the unwavering support of his family and the people over two decades. Despite being away from the Prime Minister's office for more than 20 years, his work and policies remain remembered as that of a "PM in the hearts of the people"—unlike some who held office for long but are completely forgotten. He predicted that tomorrow morning would see even larger crowds gathering to give a worthy welcome to the return of this legendary former Prime Minister.

10 May Khaosod

Phetchabun province experienced another severe summer storm on May 10, 2025, marking the second consecutive day of extreme weather. Strong winds and heavy rainfall battered the Sadieng and Nangua subdistricts of Mueang Phetchabun, causing widespread damage to homes and buildings that officials are still surveying. The storm toppled several large eucalyptus trees, including one that brought down seven electrical poles along the Saraburi-Lom Sak road, resulting in power outages across much of Phetchabun Municipality. Traffic lights went out, prompting authorities to deploy traffic cones for safety management. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage directly resulted from the pole collapses. Provincial electricity officials worked through 6:00 PM to restore power to affected areas, while machinery and equipment have been prepared to replace the damaged high-voltage poles the following day.
