Tragic: 6-Year-Old Girl Drowns in Pool After Ignoring Older Siblings' Warnings
A 6-year-old girl drowned in a public pool in Nong Khai Province on April 26 after ignoring her older brothers' warnings not to re-enter the water.
A tragic drowning claimed the life of a 6-year-old girl in Tha Bo, Nong Khai Province, on April 26, 2025. Police received the emergency call at 1:00 PM regarding the incident at Somdet Ya Public Park's pool, prompting rescue teams from multiple agencies to respond immediately.
At the scene, a large crowd of nearby residents had gathered. An 8-year-old boy—the victim's older brother—sat by the pool's edge and explained that his 6-year-old sister had entered the water alone. He pointed rescue divers to the location approximately 4-5 meters from shore, where the water was about 2 meters deep. Rescuers recovered the girl's body within five minutes, but she had already died.
According to interviews, the three siblings, aged 6 to 10, had come from Ban Nam Mong in Tha Bo District to swim in the public pool. After enjoying their time in the water, they exited to the shore. Suddenly, the 6-year-old girl walked back into the water by herself. Her older brothers called out to stop her, but she did not respond and disappeared beneath the surface. The oldest brother instructed his middle brother to watch for her while he ran for adult help, but it was too late. Officials have reminded parents to closely supervise their children during summer break, as the hot season poses drowning risks when children sneak off to swimming holes and pools. The family will conduct merit-making ceremonies according to tradition.
