On May 1, 2025, police are investigating a fatal accident in which a BMW collided with a motorcycle along Bangkhan-Nong Sua Road near a condominium in Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani Province. The motorcycle rider, identified as 27-year-old Alongkorn (surname withheld), was killed in the collision. Reporters visited the pickup point where motorcycle riders wait for work and met Piroj, known as Bank, age 27, the victim's friend. Bank and other friends brought cigarettes, coffee, and drinks the deceased typically consumed each morning as a tribute. Bank revealed that he and the victim regularly waited for work in this area. The victim was hardworking, starting work early each morning and did not drink alcohol. The group of friends is struggling with the loss and expects the driver to take full responsibility and support the victim's family, as they are working-class riders living hand-to-mouth. Deputy Investigator Suchai Saengsoeng of Khlong Luang Police Station disclosed that investigators have collected additional statements from witnesses near the accident scene and the victim's relatives. The defendant is Phumin (surname withheld), age 22, a university student who was driving the BMW. Investigators have notified him of preliminary charges. The breath alcohol test conducted on the night of the incident showed 93 milligrams per cent, exceeding legal limits, leading to charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence causing another person's death and property damage. The driver's family initially provided 100,000 baht in compensation to the victim's family. Later, the victim's 30-year-old sister, Kitmma, visited Khlong Luang Police Station to request traffic assistance from officers as there would be a Buddhist merit-making ceremony at the accident site in the afternoon. With tears, Kitmma revealed that her brother was the family's primary provider, sending money to their parents and supporting his own son. He worked as a motorcycle rider from early morning until evening. The motorcycle involved in the accident had been purchased less than a month prior and the first installment payment was not yet due. In 2020, her brother had previously been hit by a car and injured his leg, requiring prolonged treatment. After recovering, he returned to motorcycle riding to support the family until this tragic incident occurred. Meanwhile, Thammasat University Student Association at Rangsit Campus issued a statement of condolence regarding the drunk driving incident that occurred on April 30, 2025, near the university campus. The association stated that this loss has shocked the victim's family and impacted the Thammasat community's sense of safety. The student association reaffirmed its stance against drunk driving in all forms and called on all sectors to recognize their social responsibility, respect the law, and prioritize road safety for all users.
