New School Term Begins: Six Students Hospitalized After Rash and Chest Tightness

Six female students at a Prachuap Khiri Khan school were hospitalized on May 22 with itchy rashes and chest tightness; doctors attributed the illness to heat rash triggered by weather changes and pollen exposure rather than food or chemical

4h ago Khaosod

Six female students at Municipal School 1 (Kabinburi Rasat Amrung) in Kabinburi District, Prachuap Khiri Khan were hospitalized on May 22 after suddenly falling ill during morning break around 12:30 p.m. The students, from grades 5 and 6, developed itchy rashes on their arms, with some experiencing chest tightness. School Principal Chawalit Srimapol stated they were immediately transported to Kabinburi Hospital for medical treatment. Doctors diagnosed the condition as heat rash caused by sudden weather changes following a storm, combined with exposure to flower pollen and environmental factors while students were in an open area. The school has clarified that reports circulating on social media claiming the students suffered from food poisoning or chemical exposure are false, and the medical diagnosis confirms environmental allergies as the cause.

Police Issue Summons for 18-Year-Old Who Forged Documents and Impersonated Government Official to Defraud Poor Home Repair Fund

An 18-year-old has been summoned for impersonating a government official and defrauding a community housing program of nearly 600,000 baht meant for low-income repairs in Buriram province. Provincial officials have pledged emergency repairs

5h ago Khaosod

Police have issued a summons for an 18-year-old suspect accused of impersonating a government official and defrauding a community organization of nearly 600,000 baht intended for home repairs for low-income families. The suspect allegedly embezzled funds from a housing program, stole from a community welfare savings fund, and conned an elderly woman out of additional money. On May 22, provincial social development officials visited affected families and pledged to expedite emergency home repairs for four households whose homes were left in dangerous disrepair.

On May 22, 2026, Piyanat Sengiemsak, the Buriram provincial governor, led a team to visit and provide support to four low-income families approved for home repairs under the Sufficient Housing Program administered by the Community Organization Development Institute. Eleven homes total were to be repaired in Charekmak subdistrict, Prakonchai district, Buriram province.

However, an 18-year-old named Jetrin, who fraudulently posed as a government official, infiltrated the project and swindled 375,000 baht from the subdistrict community organization. While only seven homes were actually built, he caused four remaining homes to go unrepaired. Additionally, he embezzled over 426,000 baht from the community welfare savings fund and defrauded an elderly woman of 7,400 baht, bringing his total fraud to nearly 600,000 baht.

Inspection of the four unrepaired homes revealed they were in dangerous, dilapidated condition. The residents include elderly and disabled persons. Provincial social development authorities have committed to accelerating emergency home repairs and recovering the embezzled funds.

When interviewed, Swee Seepara, 27, granddaughter of 77-year-old Pong Ulid Prakonchai, one of the four families still awaiting repairs, described their home as severely deteriorated with a leaking roof that causes water damage during rainy season, making sleep difficult. Though initially disappointed by news of the fraud, she was moved to tears when provincial officials visited and promised to proceed with urgent repairs.

According to Anusan Sriprom, investigation officer at Ban Bua Police Station, the case is divided into three parts: the community organization's fraud complaint regarding the misappropriated home repair funds (with project deadline June 30, 2026); the embezzlement of daily savings fund contributions (still awaiting documentation); and the elderly woman's case (summons already issued). If the suspect fails to respond to summons, an arrest warrant will be issued. Authorities are also gathering evidence to determine what additional charges may apply regarding his fraudulent impersonation of a government official.

Insurance Commission Forecasts Slower Premium Growth in 2026, But Financial Liquidity Remains Stable

Thailand's Insurance Commission expects slower premium growth in 2026 due to Middle East tensions and economic slowdown, but insurers maintain strong financial positions with capital reserves well above regulatory minimums.

5h ago Khaosod

The Insurance Commission warns that Middle East tensions threaten the global economy through energy price spikes and financial market instability, potentially affecting Thailand's insurance industry via slower revenue growth and increased claim costs from rising energy, materials, labor, and repair expenses. The Commission forecasts that total insurance premium growth will decelerate in 2026 due to economic slowdown, weakened purchasing power, and financial market volatility, though health insurance is expected to continue growing due to rising health awareness despite inflationary pressures on medical costs. Thai insurers maintain strong financial positions with life insurance companies and general insurers reporting Capital Adequacy Ratios of 442.4% and 367.2% respectively as of Q4 2024, well above the regulatory minimum of 140%, demonstrating resilience despite global economic headwinds that could impact asset valuations, claim payouts, and cash flow management in the coming period.

Woman shoots friend dead over jealousy linked to ex-husband; confesses after lengthy police interrogation

A 39-year-old woman shot her friend dead near a fish pond in Lampang after finding her with the suspect's ex-husband, confessing to the killing following police interrogation.

5h ago Khaosod

A jealous woman fatally shot her friend by gunfire. After extended police interrogation, she confessed to searching for her ex-husband, only to find him with the victim—a woman who had also separated from him—at a fish pond.

At 10:00 a.m. on May 22, 2025, Sergeant Major Prawitr Kamphan of Hang Chat Police Station in Lampang received a report of a woman shot dead near a shelter beside a fish pond in Bong Subtai village, Pong Yang Kok subdistrict, Hang Chat district. He coordinated with Hang Chat Hospital and rushed to investigate with Police Captain Praphas Ubonsri and other officers.

The victim was a 37-year-old woman from Na Kaew subdistrict, Koh Kha district. She lay on her back wearing a black short-sleeved shirt and long jeans, with a single gunshot wound to the head. No signs of struggle were found, and she was estimated to have been dead for at least six hours. A black Honda motorcycle with Bangkok license plates was parked nearby.

Investigators discovered that before the body was found, an unknown man had written a letter to the fish pond owner stating someone had been shot dead. The owner reported it to village authorities and police, who confirmed the discovery. Evidence at the scene pointed to Yim, 39, the victim's friend. Initially denying involvement, Yim confessed after prolonged police questioning, admitting she shot her friend with a gun she later disposed of in the forest.

Yim stated she had been searching for her ex-husband, whom she hadn't found. She eventually encountered him with the victim—a woman who had also separated from the same man—and they had become involved. The confrontation escalated, and Yim used the firearm in anger.

The victim's brother noted his sister had visited her son at the ex-husband's house on May 20 and never returned home. He was unaware of what caused the tragedy, though he mentioned hearing rumors about drug involvement—likely as a user rather than dealer, since she had no income. He had planned to help her seek treatment before this incident occurred.

At 6:00 p.m., police took Yim to the crime scene to document her confession and recover the .32-caliber weapon she had hidden. She was then brought in for further investigation and charged accordingly.

24-Year-Old Man Arrested for Breaking Into Female Dormitory, Shocking Discovery of Hundreds of Voyeuristic Photos

A 24-year-old man was arrested in Chiang Rai for breaking into a female dormitory and attempting sexual assault in July; police discovered hundreds of voyeuristic photos on his phone and suspect additional victims.

5h ago Khaosod

On May 22, 2569, Col. Natthasak Chaowanat, commander of the investigation team, led a joint operation involving officers from multiple divisions including the Traffic Police, the Cyber Crime Police, the Technology Crime Division, and investigators from Ban Du Police Station. They arrested 24-year-old Sarram (surname withheld), who was wanted under arrest warrant No. 329/2569 from Chiang Rai Provincial Court issued on April 24, 2569. He faces charges of committing indecent acts against a person over 15 years old using force and breaking into a residence at night.

The arrest occurred at a rental house in Moo 15, Yang Hom Subdistrict, Khun Tan District, Chiang Rai Province, after police learned the suspect was hiding in the area. When officers arrived and identified him matching the warrant, they presented it and took him into custody. The suspect admitted to being the person named in the warrant and had no prior arrests in this case. He was transferred to Ban Du Police Station for legal proceedings.

The case stems from an incident on July 31, 2568, when an 18-year-old female victim reported to police that while resting in her dormitory room in Ban Du Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai District, a man hid behind her room before forcing his way in and attempting sexual assault. She fought back and escaped to seek help from other residents, while the suspect fled into the darkness.

Investigators reviewed CCTV footage and conducted field work, identifying a suspect living in the same dormitory who hastily moved belongings out after the incident. Upon obtaining a court warrant and examining the suspect's phone, officers discovered numerous photos and videos of the victim. The suspect confessed to secretly following and photographing her for an extended period before deciding to break into her room that night.

Investigators are continuing to examine additional data on the phone and investigating whether other victims may be involved, with further legal action to follow.
