Deep South Unrest Continues: Military Sergeant Shot While Visiting Home, 7-Year-Old Girl Wounded by Stray Bullet
A military sergeant was shot and seriously wounded in Narathiwat province while visiting home, and a 7-year-old girl was hit by a stray bullet in the attack. Security forces are investigating the incident in the troubled Deep South region.
At 7:00 PM on May 20, 2025, an armed assailant opened fire on Sergeant Muhammad Ammudi Wasohao, 29, a soldier with the 3rd Infantry Battalion, 152nd Infantry Regiment at Sirindhon Camp in Pattani province, as he returned to visit his family at their home in Ruesoah District, Narathiwat. The bullet entered his right ribcage and exited through his back, causing serious injury. A stray round also struck a nearby 7-year-old girl in the left thigh. Both victims were immediately transported to Ruesoah Hospital for emergency treatment.
Following the incident, security personnel, police, and local administrators quickly cordoned off and secured the area, while deploying additional security measures in the surrounding region to prevent further attacks. Investigators collected evidence and forensic materials from the scene to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.
Region 4 Internal Security Operations Command condemned the violent attack, expressing particular concern for innocent civilians, especially children, who should never become victims of violence. Officials vowed to pursue the perpetrators with full capacity and restore safety and public confidence in the area.
