Six-Wheel Truck Crashes Into Vehicles at Checkpoint, Killing One and Injuring Multiple

A six-wheel truck crashed into stationary vehicles at a Highway 41 checkpoint in Chumphon Province on May 21, killing the driver and injuring four others; officials suspect a burst tire and brake failure caused the collision.

1d ago Khaosod

A six-wheel truck lost control and crashed into stationary vehicles at a highway police checkpoint, destroying four cars in succession and resulting in one death and multiple injuries. The incident is suspected to have been caused by a burst tire and brake failure.

At 1:30 p.m. on May 21, 2025, Deputy Sergeant Major Kriangchai Chumkaew, deputy investigator of Sui Police Station, along with Chumphon Highway Police officers, rescue personnel from the Chumphon Charitable Foundation, and provincial disaster prevention officials, investigated the multi-vehicle collision on Highway 41 southbound before the turn-around point near the scout camp school in Village 8, Wisai Tai Subdistrict, Sui District, Chumphon Province.

At the scene, multiple severely damaged vehicles were scattered across the road, including a gray Ford pickup belonging to the Wisai Tai Subdistrict Administrative Office, a Toyota pickup, a black Mercedes sedan, and a Honda Wave motorcycle with sidecar overturned. Vehicle parts and crates of yogurt were strewn across the pavement.

Rescue teams assisted four injured victims—one male and three female—including a yogurt company employee who sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Sui Hospital. Meanwhile, rescue workers used a towing vehicle to move an injured bull that had jumped from the truck in panic before the collision.

Inside the six-wheel truck, the driver was crushed against the steering wheel. Emergency crews used cutting equipment to extract the body from the wreckage. The driver was identified as Komkrit Ritthisorn, 46, from Ranong Province, who died at the scene.

According to witness statements and victims, a highway police checkpoint was operating in the area, causing vehicles to back up. At that moment, a loud sound resembling a tire burst was heard, followed by brake failure, before the six-wheel truck collided violently with the stationary vehicles ahead, triggering the multi-vehicle pileup.

Initial investigation suggests the truck driver was navigating a curve when they encountered sudden traffic congestion. The driver attempted to brake but a tire burst, causing loss of control. Despite attempting evasive maneuvers, the truck collided with multiple vehicles, resulting in this tragedy.

Sui Police Station is currently collecting evidence, examining vehicle conditions, and interviewing all involved parties to proceed with legal proceedings. Local residents have expressed concern about the need for serious traffic safety measures at the checkpoint on this major route.

Tourism Authority Eyes Summer Blast Extension, Reallocates 70 Million Baht to Attract Long-Haul Charter Flights

Thailand's tourism authority is extending its Summer Blast program through September, reallocating 70 million baht to attract long-haul charter flights as international arrivals decline 3% and Middle East conflicts drive up airline costs.

1d ago Khaosod

On May 21, Pattaranong Na Chiangmai, Deputy Governor for Asia and South Pacific Markets at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), reported that Thailand welcomed approximately 13.1 million international tourists in the first four months of 2025, a slight 3% decline compared to 2024. Short-haul markets account for 64% of arrivals (8.29 million visitors), with China leading at 2.1 million, followed by Malaysia at 1.47 million, and India approaching 1 million. However, China's growth reflects a low base from the previous year rather than genuine market strength.

The tourism sector currently faces significant challenges from escalating global energy and oil prices caused by Middle East conflicts, which directly impact airline operating costs—especially charter flights from Chinese secondary cities like Chengdu and Guangzhou that have cancelled over 200 flights. While TAT provides 350,000 baht per flight in subsidies, this pales compared to competing nations offering 500,000 to 1 million baht, weakening Thailand's competitive position.

"Given this situation, the Thailand Summer Blast program originally scheduled to end in June still has approximately 70 million baht remaining due to flight quota cancellations," Pattaranong said. "TAT is preparing to legally extend the program through September to redirect these funds toward stimulating long-haul and incentive travel markets, which continue showing strong demand."

Beyond cost pressures, Pattaranong expressed concerns about safety perception following negative social media coverage of missing Chinese tourists, which has affected confidence despite embassy clarifications. Tourist behavior is also shifting markedly from organized tours to independent travel (FIT), with visitors pursuing personalized interests such as fan meetups with artists, concerts by Jay Chou, Tomorrowland festival, trail running, and high-cost adventure activities.

To address these challenges, TAT is launching the "NEXT" strategy comprising four pillars: (1) New Segment—targeting emerging groups like China's Silver Age demographic interested in cultural performances such as Thai Kik dancing and fashion shows, and Japanese women; (2) Experience Economy—shifting from selling traditional tourism products to experiential offerings like Thai cooking classes tracing ingredients to their sources; (3) Exchange Ecosystem—partnering with non-tourism industries like telecommunications and retail to share customer databases; and (4) Sustainable Growth—balancing visitor numbers and seasonality to reduce over-reliance on any single market while promoting secondary cities to distribute revenue to communities.

"The Middle East impact warrants close monitoring, and we must continue addressing these evolving challenges," Pattaranong concluded.

Additional charges filed against police officers implicated in detention of five Chinese nationals; extortion ring investigation underway

A fifth police officer has been charged in connection with the detention of five Chinese nationals in Sarabury province, with authorities investigating whether the case involves an organized extortion ring spanning multiple police units and

1d ago Khaosod

On May 21, 2025, at the Royal Thai Police headquarters, Deputy Police Chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairuang Phiw-pan, serving as police spokesperson, revealed developments in the case involving the arrest of four police officers and one civilian. These individuals were arrested after immigration police, working with other units, rescued five Chinese nationals being held at a residence in Wang Mai subdistrict, Wang Somboon district, Sarabury province on May 17. According to the latest report from Regional Police Bureau 2, an additional police officer (identified as "Prayoon") has been charged this morning in connection with the case.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairuang stated that given the serious nature of the case involving multiple police units, it has been escalated to national police headquarters. The national police commander has made clear that officers performing their duties properly will be commended, but those found to have violated the law will receive no protection whatsoever, regardless of rank. "If evidence is found of criminal violations, disciplinary breaches, or administrative misconduct, maximum action will be taken," he stated.

The first four arrested officers have already been suspended from duty to ensure transparent investigation and prevent evidence tampering. Regional Police Bureau 2 is conducting expanded investigations, and charges will be pursued against any individuals found complicit—whether police, civilians, or persons of influence—without exception.

According to Deputy Commander Pol. Col. Thitawat Suriyachai of Region 2, preliminary investigation suggests the newly charged officer was involved in accessing the location where the five Chinese nationals were detained, though his specific role—whether as an organizer, participant, or other capacity—remains under investigation.

When asked whether the case qualifies as a violation of the Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearance Act, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairuang explained that this requires examination of facts and intent—whether the detention was lawful or motivated by extortion. If the conduct fits the legal definition, additional charges will be filed immediately.

Investigators have identified the operation as a network with possible links to neighboring countries, involving coordinated communication and staged procedures. Officers are currently examining financial trails, phone records, communications, and individual benefits to identify all network members.

Investigators are also determining whether the suspects have committed similar crimes previously and checking vehicles and locations potentially used in their operations, suggesting this may be an ongoing organized criminal enterprise rather than an isolated incident.

Regarding rumors that some suspects may be connected to local powerful figures, no further details were provided.

Four Police Officers Suspended Pending Investigation in Chinese Nationals Abduction and Extortion Case

Four police officers have been suspended following their arrest for abducting and extorting five Chinese nationals in Saraburi Province, with all suspects confessing to charges including unlawful confinement and abuse of authority.

1d ago Khaosod

Four police officers have been suspended from duty following their arrest in connection with the abduction and extortion of five Chinese nationals held captive in Wang Sombun District, Saraburi Province. The officers were accused of using coercive measures to confine the victims and threatening them to extort ransom money in exchange for their release. On May 21, 2025, Deputy Police Commissioner Napawat Ariyangkul signed National Police Office Order No. 221/2569 suspending four officers: Detective Lieutenant Wuttikorn Wongthum, a team leader in crime prevention at Khlong Hat Police Station, Saraburi; Detective Lieutenant Somchai Yukhong, a team leader in crime prevention at Khlong Hat Police Station; Detective Lieutenant Pichetsathit Sengsoon, a team leader in crime prevention at Ban Plaeng Police Station, Chachoengsao; and Detective Lieutenant Pabhawin Prachueatngern, a team leader at Highway Police Station 3 Division 3 of the Highway Police Bureau.

The officers face serious disciplinary charges and are accused of jointly confining others unlawfully, abusing their authority as officials, extortion, and misconduct in office. All four suspects have confessed to the charges and have been in custody since May 16. The case has drawn significant public attention and raised serious concerns about institutional credibility. The order states that allowing the officers to continue their duties could cause further damage, justifying their suspension pending the outcome of the disciplinary investigation.

Detective Lieutenant Pabhawin was previously suspended under a separate order dated May 18, 2025, by the Highway Police Bureau. Separately, the National Police Office has also appointed an investigation committee under Order No. 220/2569, chaired by Police Colonel Ekasit Toaditetep, Director of Investigation and Inspection Division 1 under the National Police Office's Inspection Bureau, along with five other committee members to expedite fact-finding across all dimensions of the case.

The Police Commissioner has instructed the investigation proceed with full transparency and speed. Authorities have been directed to immediately report any additional police officers or individuals found to be involved so that criminal proceedings can be expanded without any omissions.

The May 8, 2025 ceremony at the Bangkok Vocational School on Phutthabucha Road included senior Buddhist clergy and city officials.

Sacred Amulet News – Luang Pho Eia Coin B.E. 2519 Commemorating the Hall of Comparison

Luang Pho Eia Kittiko, a revered Buddhist master from Prachuap Khiri Khan who passed away in 1978, was honored with commemorative amulets for his spiritual teachings and healing work throughout Thailand's eastern border region.

1d ago Khaosod

Forty to fifty years ago, the Thai-Cambodian border region in the east knew no stranger to Phra Kru Sangwon Kittakun, also known as Luang Pho Eia Kittiko of Wat Ban Darn in Koh Loi subdistrict, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. This celebrated Buddhist master was frequently invited to participate in Buddhist consecration ceremonies throughout Prachuap Khiri Khan and other regions, including major ceremonies in Bangkok. He was a direct disciple of Luang Pu Suk of Wat Pak Khlong Makham Tao, where he mastered esoteric Buddhist teachings and spiritual practices.

Born on May 9, 1905, in Ban Darn village, the son of Nai Thiao and Nang Ma Khunyakhan, he lost both parents in his youth. Despite these hardships, he showed devotion to education, completing his secondary studies at Chachoengsao Provincial School. He ordained on May 8, 1922, at age seventeen, and dedicated himself to Buddhist scriptures and meditation practices. He received full monastic ordination on May 18, 1925, at Wat Samphant in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

He became renowned for his compassion and spiritual power, assisting villagers with physical ailments, mental distress, and other suffering. His reputation grew so immense that the temple became like a small hospital, with villagers traveling from all directions seeking his help. In 1939, he was appointed abbot of Wat Ban Darn, where he continued providing medical care and spiritual guidance. The people affectionately called him the "God of the Bamboo Shoot City."

In 1958, he served as head of Koh Loi subdistrict and founding director of the Buddhist studies academy. He was appointed preceptor in 1959. In 1968, he received the monastic title Phra Kru Sangwon Kittakun from the Thai Crown.

Throughout his life, he trained monks, novices, and lay practitioners, promoting Buddhist education through establishing a Buddhist studies center and founding Koh Loi Kittiko School. He created numerous amulets, bells, photographs, sacred powders, talismans, and other religious objects over many editions.

He passed away peacefully on July 17, 1978, at age seventy-three with fifty-two years of monastic service, leaving behind a legacy treasured by amulet collectors and his devoted disciples.

Heaven in the Kitchen – 'Sritrat at Hom Khong Sri' Authentic Eastern Regional Cuisine

Sritrat at Hom Khong Sri, a Bangkok restaurant specializing in authentic Eastern Thai regional cuisine, has relaunched at Siam Paragon with an expanded menu and contemporary daily items while maintaining its commitment to fresh, house-made

1d ago Khaosod

Sritrat is a Bangkok restaurant featuring the most diverse and extensive selection of authentic Eastern Thai regional home-style cuisine, distinguished by its stylish interior design filled with the beautiful story of the owner's mother, adding a vibrant, cozy atmosphere that feels like dining at a friend's house with delicious home-cooked meals.

The restaurant operates three distinctive branches: Sukhumvit 33, Siam Paragon, and Sukhumvit 11 (called Buraphop). This feature focuses on the Siam Paragon location, following owner Khun Aak-Wongwich Sriphinyo's desire to strengthen the restaurant's clear identity.

Originally called 'Hom Khong Sri' on the ground floor in the Gourmet Garden zone, this branch now represents a new chapter of the 'Sritrat Group,' showcasing the restaurant's distinctive identity. It emphasizes authentic Eastern regional flavors with bold, well-rounded sweetness, tangy-sweet notes from local fruits, and aromatic herbs that create a unique, deep flavor profile in a fine dining setting.

'Hom Khong Sri' serves additional contemporary daily menu items and creates new dining experiences that are more enjoyable and relaxed. Customer feedback reflects their desire for an 'instant close friend rather than a new acquaintance requiring time to understand.'

Some customers note that when they enter Sritrat, they already know what they want to order, whereas at 'Hom Khong Sri,' they're unsure. This prompted owner Khun Aak to establish a new business direction, announcing a 'Restaurant Revamp' rebrand, renaming the location to 'Sritrat at Hom Khong Sri.'

The restaurant maintains its culinary strength, offering famous and hard-to-find Eastern regional dishes alongside signature items from the original Sritrat. An expanded menu with appetizing food photography clearly distinguishes 'Halal' and 'Vegetarian' options.

The kitchen philosophy remains unchanged: no bottled sauces, no oyster oil, no canned coconut milk, and support for local fishing vessels to ensure food security.

Additional offerings include a 'Chef's Table' on a floating platform serving seasonal cuisine, while a cocktail bar inspired by 1970s and 1980s music is also available. A sincere business that listens to customers is already halfway to success.

Heartwarming Beyond Measure! Stray Cat Never Forgets Her Rescuer, Hugs Him Every Day

A Turkish man named Ferhat rescued a stray kitten and named her Chakir, who now greets him with daily hugs at his shop, jumping into his arms to express her gratitude.

1d ago Khaosod

A young man rescues a stray cat and experiences an incredibly touching moment when the feline remembers him and jumps into his arms every day, winning over the internet. The heartwarming story of a Turkish stray cat who never forgets her benefactor and expresses her love through daily embraces has become a touching tale that makes cat lovers around the world smile.

The story began about a year ago when Ferhat and his father opened their shop and noticed a thin, scrawny stray kitten wandering around outside. Moved by compassion, they decided to bring the kitten inside to shelter and fed her well.

Ferhat recounted that the kitten stayed in the shop all day, and before closing, he and his father prepared a small sleeping area outside for her to rest comfortably through the night. But what surprised them most was that the next morning, the same kitten returned. She even casually hopped onto the employee chair as if she knew this was her home.

Her adorable, affectionate, and friendly nature made the father and son fall head over heels. They decided to officially adopt her and named her Chakir. Ferhat also took her for a health checkup and complete vaccinations.

Now, Chakir lives freely, walking around and sunbathing in the neighborhood as she pleases. But no matter how far she roams, she always returns to the shop.

What touches Ferhat most deeply is the "daily hug ritual" that Chakir performs regularly. Every time he opens his arms to call her, the kitten rushes to jump onto the counter and wraps both front paws around his neck, then gently nuzzles her face into his shoulder, as if telling him, "Thank you for saving my life and giving me a home."
