Education Minister Prasert Concerned About Children's Heavy Social Media Use, Attention Span Issues; Declares Urgent Priority with Two-Track Solution

Thailand's Education Minister warns that excessive social media use is damaging children's attention spans and declares the issue an urgent priority, proposing separate protective and educational strategies for younger and older students.

16h ago Khaosod

On May 26, 2569, Education Minister Prasert Jantarawongtong discussed the issue of children consuming excessive amounts of social media, resulting in diminished ability to focus on specific activities—a concern for society as a whole. Research shows that Thai children spend significant time on social media and watching short videos, causing attention span problems. The minister emphasized this is not a matter of blaming children or the platforms, but rather a challenge of the digital age. The Education Ministry considers this an urgent priority requiring immediate action to ensure Thai children develop into quality individuals.

The ministry is pursuing a two-track solution informed by models from other countries. For younger children whose brains are still developing, protective measures are necessary. For older children, instruction in proper digital technology skills and AI literacy is required. These are the ministry's responsibilities. The minister stated he will consult with relevant agencies promptly to increase children's focus and encourage appropriate social media use.

The minister acknowledged the serious concern that dangerous content is entering social media platforms and being consumed by youth. The ministry has implemented safety centers in schools working alongside student rights centers and education personnel to coordinate efforts. Going forward, there must be discussions about platform safety protocols, including age restrictions for accessing various platforms.

On May 26, 2025, reporters documented the scene at the home of teacher Fatimah Yango, who was killed in an armed ambush while parked outside a private school in Yaring District, Pattani Province, waiting to pick up her child. Throughout the morning, colleagues, relatives, and neighbors visited the family to offer condolences and support. The teacher's body underwent religious ceremonies the previous evening before being taken to a cemetery near her birthplace in Moo 6, Prajan Subdistrict, Yaring District, Pattani Province.

The victim's infant daughter, who sustained injuries in the shooting, remains hospitalized at Pattani Hospital under close medical supervision and is now out of critical condition. Family members revealed that the teacher was shot in the head and upper back, with bullets penetrating her abdomen, while the infant was grazed by a bullet in the diaper area. The deceased had four children total—three of whom are currently enrolled in primary and kindergarten classes at the same school where their mother taught, and the youngest daughter was wounded alongside her mother during the attack.

Prasit Urges Election Commission to Send Senate Vote-Buying Case Involving 229 People to Court, Cites Strong Evidence

Pheu Thai deputy leader Prasit Chawansakul urged the Election Commission to refer a vote-buying case involving 229 people—including over 130 senators—to court, citing strong evidence of identical ballot numbers and financial trails.

16h ago Khaosod

At 9:00 AM on May 26, 2025, at Parliament, Prasit Chawansakul, a list-based MP and deputy leader of the Pheu Thai Party, gave an interview regarding 89 senators who gathered to issue a statement criticizing Nattapong Ruangpanya-wit, a list-based senator and Pheu Thai Party leader, for alleged references to the "blue regime." Prasit used the opportunity to call on the public to monitor another group of over 130 senators whose names appear in Investigation Committee 16's report of the Election Commission (EC). That committee has voted to recommend that the EC refer the case to court to prosecute 229 people for senate vote-buying. This group includes over 130 senators plus a network of political party members, ministers, and national-level politicians—totaling over 90 additional individuals.

Prasit stated that the EC must make a decision within one month on whether to follow the investigation committee's recommendation and refer the case to court, or to dismiss and close it. The evidence in the committee's file includes numerous ballot numbers that are identical—contradicting mathematical probability—along with evidence of meetings, joint travel, financial trails, and hiring arrangements. This constitutes sufficiently strong evidence to warrant court review.

Comparing this to the red-number case 53/2568 from the past, the EC previously referred a case to court where the judge found guilt based solely on LINE chat messages between two individuals discussing vote trades. Given the far more substantial evidence in the current case, questions would arise if the EC decides not to refer it.

Should the EC vote against referral, it would invite accusations and prompt public questions about whether four of seven EC commissioners—who were endorsed by senators named in this case—are influencing the decision.

Deputy National Police Chief Coordinates with Chinese Embassy and Police to Rescue Four Chinese Citizens Deceived into Call Center Scam Operations in Myanmar

Thai police rescued four Chinese nationals deceived into a Myanmar call center scam operation after they entered Thailand legally in early May; authorities are investigating whether human trafficking charges apply.

16h ago Khaosod

On May 26, 2025, Deputy National Police Chief General Thatchai Pitanilabut held a press briefing at the National Victim Screening and Referral Center in Don Mueang to announce the successful rescue of four Chinese nationals who had been deceived into working at a call center scam operation in Myanmar. The operation involved cooperation from multiple police units and coordination with the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok.

According to the investigation, the four Chinese citizens legally entered Thailand on May 3, 2025, through Suvarnabhumi Airport via normal channels. After arrival, they checked into a hotel near the airport before traveling to Tak Province and crossing into Myanmar in a vehicle arranged by a Chinese friend who had recruited them with promises of business opportunities in Thailand.

During interviews, the victims stated their main purpose was to seek business opportunities, with Chiang Mai as their intended destination. Each had brought approximately 30,000 yuan and 10,000 baht in cash. However, investigators noted that all travel expenses—including airfare, transportation, and accommodation—had been covered by the Chinese recruiter.

The victims had shown awareness before departure by instructing their families to immediately report to Chinese police if contact could not be established. CCTV footage, travel records, and evidence did not show signs of abduction, detention, or physical coercion during their journey within Thailand.

Authorities continue investigating whether deception, coercion, threats, or exploitation occurred that would constitute human trafficking. The four individuals are currently undergoing the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) screening process to assess their status and provide legal protections. The process includes observation from the Chinese Embassy to ensure the victims' safety, dignity, and human rights are protected throughout the procedure.

Hallodara – Fluke Nuttacha Turns 30 in Style, Gearing Up for an Exciting Year Ahead

Actor Fluke Nuttacha celebrates turning 30 while juggling a TV series, stage productions, and a master's degree, planning fan activities including a merit-making ceremony on May 30th.

16h ago Khaosod

As actor Fluke Nuttacha approaches his 30th birthday, he's juggling a packed schedule with TV series, stage productions, and a master's degree program while still finding time to give back to fans.

The film "KHAO KALA," directed by Yangtirk Thanadej and produced by Toffee Shivadol, explores extraterrestrial beliefs and the mysteries of alien life in Southeast Asia's largest UFO hotspot—often referred to as Thailand's own Area 51. The film made a splash at the Cannes Film Festival and has already secured pre-sales in over 11 countries, with plans to tap into the international market further.

M STUDIO has partnered with Japanese powerhouse Toei Company and South Korean studio Showbox to develop the horror film "The Long Hair In The Attic," adapted from the works of manga master Junji Ito and directed by Sitthisiri Mongkolsiri. M STUDIO CEO Surachet Asvereunganan stated: "This marks another crucial step in expanding Thai cinema to the international stage. 'The Long Hair In The Attic' is currently in development, with production set to begin in 2026, and we're positioning it as an Asian Horror Tentpole that can reach audiences worldwide."

As he approaches his 30th birthday, actor Fluke Nuttacha Siripongsthorn is fully committed to his master's degree while managing a demanding work schedule. He shared: "Over the past period, I've been filming series and starting my master's program, so I've had to adapt, plan carefully, and manage my time for work commitments. This year I have the series 'Trouble Maker,' 'Your Third Series' from Domundi featuring Peter Pan Thassanaphon, a stage drama project in preparation, and new series in development. I'm turning 30 this year and stepping into adulthood. On May 30th, I'm inviting fans to participate in a merit-making ceremony at Pak Kret Children's Home, and on May 31st, there will be a fan meeting."

When asked about the atmosphere on set for the film "City Curse," actress Nam Taan Pichkanha shared her experience: "It was so much fun. We shot in northern Thailand, and it felt like everyone was going home. We explored unique northern cuisine and ate a lot—dishes like kaeng kradang. Most of the cast are northerners from different provinces: Sprite from Chiang Mai, Tee from Lampang, Tarn from Phrae, and Nam Wan from Chiang Rai. We exchanged cultures and bonded quickly because we went to cafés and explored Chiang Mai together."

F1 Racing Legend Mika Salo Slashed by Motorcycle Attacker in Bangkok, Requires 28 Stitches

Former F1 driver Mika Salo was slashed by a knife-wielding motorcycle attacker in Bangkok on May 26, requiring 28 stitches to his leg. The incident was one of several similar attacks that night targeting pedestrians in the Thai capital.

16h ago Khaosod

On May 26, 2025, former Finnish F1 racing driver Mika Salo, 59, was attacked by a Thai man on a motorcycle who slashed his leg with a knife while visiting Bangkok. The incident gained major coverage in Finnish media outlets including Ilta-Sanomat and Helsingin Sanomat. Salo recalled feeling only a "light bump" from the motorcycle passing close by, but within a few steps, bystanders alerted him that blood was pouring from his leg. He looked down to see his shoes covered in blood. Medical examination revealed a deep laceration extending to the muscle, suspected to be from a knife rather than an accident. Doctors sutured the wound with a total of 28 stitches (8 on muscle, 20 on skin). The hospital noted multiple victims with similar injuries that night, indicating a series of motorcycle slashing attacks from the same vehicle. Salo's condition has improved, though he requires daily wound care and is taking antibiotics.

Canva Goes Big, Enlists Teo-Nopwon to Launch 'Canva – Anyone Can, Right?' Campaign, a First in Thailand

Canva launches its first major campaign in Thailand with director Teo-Nopwon, democratizing creative tools by proving anyone can edit videos and create professional designs without specialized skills.

16h ago Khaosod

Canva, the world's leading comprehensive visual communication platform, launches its major 'Canva – Anyone Can, Right?' campaign for the first time in Thailand, challenging the notion that creative work is limited to trained professionals or specialists. With just an idea, inspiration, and the right tools, anyone can create outstanding work to share, creating, remixing, and telling their own stories. The campaign reflects the belief that Thailand has talented storytellers throughout the country, and with the right tools, everyone can bring their creative ideas to life.

The advertisement opens in an agency office, where director Teo-Nopwon and his team are stuck in an endless cycle of revisions based on client feedback. When a rider enters and sees the chaos, he opens Canva and edits the work himself, followed by security guards and housemaids taking turns jumping in. The humorous, thoroughly Thai scene demonstrates just how easy video editing with Canva has become.

Phakphon Tangtongchin, Canva's Country Manager for Thailand, stated: "Thailand is one of the most creatively powerful communities in the region. Our culture of storytelling and digital expression continues to evolve, so it's incredibly exciting to collaborate with Teo-Nopwon, one of Thailand's most distinguished directors, to open a space for everyone to express their creative power. We believe creativity shouldn't be limited by experience, access, or technical skills. 'Canva – Anyone Can, Right?' proves that simplicity is a crucial turning point that sparks growth, creativity, and confidence."

In Thai indie cinema, director Teo-Nopwon Thamrongratnatid's name needs little introduction. The director behind memorable contemporary works from 'Freelance' to 'How to Dump' is now partnering with Canva for the first time, opening his personal film footage archive for Thai people nationwide to access. He invites everyone to take on the role of director, interpret the same footage from their own perspective, and create works to share on social media using Canva Video Editor and AI-powered design tools.

Teo-Nopwon revealed: "As a filmmaker and someone who's worked in moving image media for a long time, this campaign allowed me to connect with a younger generation and discover new technologies like Canva. Beyond the ease of use, it opened my eyes to how young people—or those not directly involved in filmmaking—approach editing. There's a real exchange happening here, and it makes me realize that editing truly has become something anyone can do now."

Video is increasingly playing a crucial role as a medium for creative expression, self-presentation, and business storytelling. This campaign reflects Canva's investment in removing barriers between people and their ideas, from Magic Video, Canva's AI-powered video editing tool, to Canva Offline, which enables creation even with limited connectivity. The goal is to allow everyone from beginners to professionals to communicate through visuals and turn their visions into reality.

Previously, Canva reinforced its commitment to supporting creative work by partnering with the Ministry of Education to expand free access to Canva for Education, covering over 6 million students and teachers nationwide.

Rutthapol Outlines Three Criteria for EM Bracelet Removal Following Thaksin's Pardon Request

Justice Minister Rutthapol outlined three criteria for EM bracelet removal following Thaksin's pardon request, but the former PM's case does not meet the requirements for removal.

16h ago Khaosod

At 9:45 a.m. on May 26, 2569, at Government House, Justice Minister Pol. Gen. Rutthapol Naruebet spoke about former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's expected request for a royal pardon and EM bracelet removal. He outlined three criteria for bracelet removal: medical illness, employment engagement, and lack of electricity or internet at the residence. However, Thaksin's case does not meet the first two criteria and appears unlikely to qualify for EM bracelet removal, as he fails to meet all three conditions. In the past two weeks, one case resulted in EM bracelet removal, which was related to employment circumstances.

Phraryadr Denies Blue Regime, Claims Only Blue Party That Grew from Orange Party

Bhumjaithai Party leader Phraryadr denied allegations of serving a "blue regime," asserting the party represents voters who elected it after the February election and grew from earlier coalition support.

16h ago Khaosod

At 9:40 a.m. on May 26, 2025, Phraryadr Prishananuntkul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office and core leader of Bhumjaithai Party, responded to Democrat Party leader Natthaphong Ruangpanyawut's claim that Bhumjaithai serves as an agent of a blue regime. Phraryadr countered that all elected political parties are agents of the people who voted them in, and Bhumjaithai is no different—it was chosen by voters after presenting policies they supported. He stated he doesn't understand what a "blue regime" means, but acknowledged Bhumjaithai uses blue as its symbol and is called the blue party.

Phraryadr explained that the blue party grew from the February 8 election, and before that, it expanded from support by the orange party. Bhumjaithai originally held only 70 seats and couldn't form a government alone, requiring support from the orange party. This enabled Anutin Charnvirakul to serve as Prime Minister for just under four months under the Memorandum of Agreement, during which the party worked to build public confidence, resulting in 192 votes of support in the February 8 election.

When asked what the Democrat Party seeks through such actions, Phraryadr said they are creating divisive discourse and discrediting the government. He invited all parties to return to constructive politics, noting the country faces an economic crisis. He urged the opposition to use parliamentary mechanisms for legitimate criticism rather than suddenly introducing new rhetoric about a "blue regime," which he reiterated he doesn't understand. He reaffirmed that currently there is only a blue party, whose agents are the people who elected them to fulfill their promises.

Unanimous Comments: Mother Rents Condo to Daughter at 12,000 Baht Monthly, Upon Return Hit with 30,000 Baht Repair Bill—Is This Normal?

A mother questioned a 30,616 baht repair bill from her daughter's landlord after a two-year condo rental, with commenters unanimously agreeing the charges for routine maintenance and wear-and-tear were excessive and unjustified.

16h ago Khaosod

A Facebook user posted in the "We Are Consumers" group about her experience renting a condominium to her daughter. She paid 12,000 baht monthly over two years with a 24,000 baht security deposit. When her daughter completed high school and moved out on May 11, 2026, the landlord submitted detailed repair charges totaling 30,616 baht. The mother questioned whether these charges were normal, noting that curtains showed no damage and the AC had been professionally cleaned in February 2026, yet the landlord insisted on another cleaning.

The repair bill breakdown included: - Curtain and bedding washing: 3,480 baht - Sofa and chair repairs: 6,000 baht - Under-sink cabinet repair: 4,200 baht - Room wall painting: 4,000 baht - AC cleaning (2 units): 1,000 baht - Room cleaning: 1,200 baht - Access card: 500 baht - Room key: 200 baht - Sink cabinet leg repair: 2,000 baht - Sink countertop repair: 4,500 baht - Washing machine rubber seal: 3,400 baht - Electricity surcharge: 136 baht - Total: 30,616 baht, requiring additional payment of 6,616 baht beyond the security deposit

Comments were unanimously critical. Landlords and tenants alike questioned the charges, with many noting that most items represent normal wear and tear rather than damage requiring repair. Several commenters, including self-identified property owners, said they would never charge such fees, noting that rental rates should account for equipment depreciation. Critics argued the prices represented replacement costs rather than repairs, and some recommended pursuing mediation through rental offices.
