Chumphon Municipality Mayor Explains Support Banners for Land Bridge Project, Calls It a Democratic Right

Chumphon Municipality mayor defends support banners for a proposed land bridge project as a democratic right, after social media backlash over five signs installed across the city. He emphasized that both supporters and opponents can freely

3d ago Khaosod

On May 23, 2025, reporters in Chumphon province documented significant backlash on social media regarding support banners for the "Chumphon-Ranong Land Bridge Connecting Two Seas" project installed throughout Chumphon Municipality. A survey identified five banner locations: two on Krom Luang Road, two on Sala Daeng Road, and one on Trirat Road near the Chumphon Police Station, all clearly expressing support for the land bridge project.

In response, Srichai Veeranorpanich, mayor of Chumphon Municipality, gave an interview clarifying that the issue involves both supporters and opponents, urging residents not to worry. He confirmed that he cannot suppress any particular viewpoint, as both supporters and opponents have the right to express their opinions within a democratic system.

The mayor explained that an unidentified individual requested permission to install the banners, and emphasized these signs would not remain long and would eventually be removed. He advised the public to research the project independently.

Srichai further noted that those who installed the banners intended to support the project, while opponents are equally entitled to voice their objections. He pointed out that the project is still in the study phase and must pass through many processes before reaching a final conclusion.

The land bridge project remains a sensitive issue in Chumphon and Southern Thailand, with some groups seeing economic opportunities and others concerned about environmental and lifestyle impacts. Many residents are calling on relevant agencies to hold transparent public forums so all stakeholders can genuinely participate in deciding the area's future.

Lost Money, Lost Freedom: Authorities Arrest Cambodian Fortune Teller for Defrauding Woman and Sexual Assault, Extorting Over 1.7 Million Baht

A 65-year-old Cambodian fortune teller was arrested in Chon Buri for defrauding a woman of 1.7 million baht and sexually assaulting her during fake spiritual rituals between January and April 2025.

3d ago Khaosod

On May 23, 2025, Colonel Pisit Tangsirisiab, commander of Na Jomtien Police Station, along with Deputy Commander Lieutenant Colonel Adisorn Kongkoy and investigation officers, arrested 65-year-old Bunyarut pursuant to a Pattaya Provincial Court warrant on charges of fraud and sexual assault. The arrest took place at his Cambodian fortune-telling shop in Na Jomtien Subdistrict, Sattahip District, Chon Buri Province.

The case originated from a 51-year-old woman's complaint that she met the suspect through a referral while experiencing romantic troubles and seeking spiritual cleansing and karma resolution. The suspect claimed he could resolve her karma, improve her fortune, and reunite her with her lover. He then convinced her to participate in various rituals while continuously collecting tuition fees, ceremonial supplies, and ritual charges from January through April 2025, totaling damages exceeding 1.7 million baht.

The victim alleged that during the rituals, the suspect inserted a wooden pestle into her genitals and sexually assaulted her, claiming these acts were part of the ceremony to remove negativity and open her love fortune. She stated she felt frightened and did not dare resist.

When the victim later suspected she was being defrauded, she gathered evidence and filed a complaint. Police investigated the financial trail, communications, and witness statements before obtaining a court arrest warrant. The suspect was eventually apprehended.

Initially, Bunyarut denied all charges, claiming the woman gave him the money voluntarily and their relationship was consensual. However, police remain unconvinced and are proceeding with legal prosecution.

Police Spokesman Visits Traffic Officer Critically Injured After Student Driver Plows Through Checkpoint

A traffic officer remains hospitalized with serious injuries after a student driver rammed through a Bangkok checkpoint on May 22, prompting senior police leadership to visit and reaffirm the importance of such safety measures.

3d ago Khaosod

Police Spokesman Visits Traffic Officer Critically Injured After Student Driver Plows Through Checkpoint, Emphasizes Checkpoints as Critical Crime Prevention Tool. On May 23, 2569, Deputy National Police Chief Trairongpipatkul Piwphan and National Police Office Spokesman visited Warrant Officer Tharan, assistant traffic officer at Bang Na Police Station, who is hospitalized at Thai Nakornrinthara Hospital after suffering serious injuries from a young student driver who rammed through a checkpoint and struck him while on duty in the early morning hours of May 22.

Deputy Chief Trairongpipatkul conveyed concerns from National Police Chief Kittarat Panthet to the injured officer and his family, while instructing relevant agencies to provide comprehensive medical care and welfare support to boost morale among police personnel performing their dangerous duties for the public.

The incident began when a white Mitsubishi vehicle registered in Ubon Ratchathani Province drove at high speed and attempted to breach the checkpoint before violently colliding with the traffic officer's Yamaha NMAX motorcycle, completely destroying the vehicle.

Warrant Officer Tharan, who was performing his duties to maintain safety and manage the situation in the area, suffered serious injuries when his body was struck and thrown to the ground, losing consciousness in the roadway. Emergency responders had to rush to provide emergency assistance before transporting him to the hospital.

Nearby officers from Bang Na Police Station quickly controlled the scene and apprehended two suspects—the driver and passenger—who were taken into custody and handed over to investigators for legal proceedings.

This incident underscores the critical importance of checkpoints as mechanisms for preventing crime, intercepting offenders, and ensuring public safety on roads. Traffic officers manning these checkpoints constantly face risks to their lives and physical safety. Warrant Officer Tharan's case exemplifies the dedication, sacrifice, and courage of Thai police who stand ready to perform their duties for social order despite any dangers they may face.

It also reflects the concern of senior leadership at the National Police Office for the welfare and morale of frontline personnel.

No Room for Shortcuts – Police and Railways Joint Action Plan Must Prevent Future Tragedies

Police and railways officials outlined comprehensive short, medium, and long-term safety measures following a deadly Bangkok train-bus collision that killed eight people, including improved warning systems, traffic coordination, and enforce

3d ago Khaosod

Following the tragic Bangkok train-bus collision that killed 8 people, there are concerns that authorities will only apply temporary solutions rather than address root causes. However, Police Commander General Siam Bunsorn recently convened a multi-agency meeting to develop short, medium, and long-term preventive measures. Representatives from the Transport Ministry, State Railway of Thailand, Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, Department of Land Transport, Department of Rail Transport, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and local police precincts attended. Bangkok has 58 railway crossing points spanning 28 police station areas. The meeting discussed installing warning systems, automatic barriers, and deploying traffic officers at crossings. Enforcement of traffic laws against violators was also addressed, with potential legal amendments needed for effectiveness. Authorities identified 19 high-risk crossing points, classified by threat level (red, yellow, green), requiring immediate physical remediation. Train schedules must be coordinated with police to manage road traffic flow and prevent vehicles from stalling on tracks. A new communication channel between police and railways will be established for urgent situations. Medium and long-term solutions will include technology installation to improve operational efficiency. A key finding was that coordination between police and railways has been inadequate and poorly integrated. When train schedules are known, police must clear traffic from crossing areas as a priority to prevent congestion. The tragedy that claimed 8 lives and destroyed numerous vehicles represents losses that should never happen again. Serious preventive measures must be implemented—not just temporary responses. The fact that Police Commander General Siam is actively convening these meetings offers hope that such disasters may be prevented going forward.

Arne Slot Confident Liverpool Will Improve Significantly Next Season With 1-2 New Signings

Liverpool manager Arne Slot says the club will significantly improve next season with one or two new signings, as the team looks to recover from a disappointing campaign that includes 12 league defeats and no major trophies.

3d ago Khaosod

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed confidence that the club will perform much better next season if they can add 1-2 new players to the squad, following a disappointing current campaign.

Slot stated, "We will develop as a team more than before because we've moved past the transition period from last summer. The new signings will develop alongside our existing players. If we can add 1-2 more players after this, I believe our team will look much better next year."

This season, Liverpool has failed to win any major trophy, suffered 12 league defeats, and has not yet secured a guaranteed UEFA Champions League spot, prompting reports that Slot's position could be in jeopardy.

According to the Telegraph, Liverpool is signaling support for Slot to continue by preparing to recruit Dutch coach Etienne Reijnen, Slot's former assistant at Feyenoord. Reijnen, 39, recently left his position as assistant head coach at the Dutch club. Slot had originally intended to bring Reijnen to Liverpool in 2024, but the plan was delayed due to work permit complications for Reijnen in England, which kept him at Feyenoord until now.

3d ago Khaosod

On May 23, 2569, Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Pheriswivatvana revealed that the government under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is advancing grassroots economic stimulation through the Thai Helps Thai Plus 60/40 program to reduce the cost of living for citizens while increasing income for small entrepreneurs, community shops, and local businesses across the country. Merchant registration began on May 25, 2569.

Merchants who previously participated in the People Get Half Plus program can confirm their participation through the Tung Ngoen app from May 25 to September 30, 2569, while new merchants can register through Krung Thai Bank branches from May 25 to July 31, 2569. Spending through participating merchants will run from June 1 to September 30, 2569, between 6:00 AM and 11:00 PM, while food delivery transactions will begin June 15, 2569, operating from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM to provide convenient access to goods and services and create additional revenue channels for merchants.

The Thai Helps Thai Plus 60/40 program is another significant government measure to drive the domestic economy through support from the public sector, citizens, and small entrepreneurs to ensure money circulates through grassroots economies and sustains consumer purchasing power during economic recovery.

"The government invites merchants nationwide to participate in the program to increase trading opportunities, expand customer bases, and contribute to driving Thailand's economy from the community level," Lalida said, expressing confidence that distributing economic opportunities to small merchants and local communities will strengthen Thailand's economy sustainably.

The government is also opening citizen registration for the Thai Helps Thai Plus program through the Pao Tang app from May 25 to May 29, 2569, between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM until 30 million rights are allocated or registration closes on May 29, whichever comes first.

Shocking: Jaturong Mokjok Opens Up About Sexual Abuse Suffered to Advance Entertainment Career, a Lifelong Scar

Thai entertainer Jaturong Mokjok revealed he endured sexual abuse as a young performer to launch his career, describing it as a lifelong scar he would accept again given the same circumstances.

3d ago Khaosod

The story moved many listeners when entertainer Jaturong Mokjok revealed painful experiences from his youth, disclosing that he was coerced into sexual abuse in exchange for opportunities in the entertainment industry. He acknowledged it as a permanent mark on his life, yet stated that if he could turn back time, he would make the same decision.

Jaturong shared his account on Nikki Naetchat's YouTube show "Sad Bar," explaining that he had to accept sexual abuse to become who he is today as Uncle Rong. Without that incident, he might have become someone selling bean sprout noodles at a market stall. He had no connections in Bangkok's entertainment scene when he first arrived, joining a music group and learning dance from a gay instructor. He was initially a backup dancer but hadn't yet performed on stage.

He described the incident: the man told him he had to sleep with him and submit to him. The perpetrator was around 40 years old while Jaturong was only 19-20, at his physical prime. The man threatened that everyone else had already complied, and if Jaturong refused, he'd have to return home to Pathum Thani. After drinking, Jaturong felt trapped and agreed. He was terrified and frightened, thinking about when morning would come. With no money since he'd run away from home, he had no choice but to comply. At the hotel, he had to submit to everything, thinking of his parents but unable to do anything. Afterward, he was brought on stage and earned 100 baht, becoming a dancer and earning income.

When asked why he helped the man afterward, Jaturong responded: "Without him, I wouldn't have become Jaturong. If he hadn't put me on stage that day, I wouldn't have met comedians, wouldn't have become famous, and wouldn't have shown my comedy skills. I consider him to have helped me." He revealed the man still visits, coming every week asking for money, even appearing at Jaturong's game show twice or three times. When asked if he'd accept it again, Jaturong answered: "Yes, because it's inevitable. But I'll remember it my whole life—it's a permanent scar that stays with me forever."

Case Stalled: Woman Seeks to Reclaim Pickup Truck from Buriram Moneylender Who Claims It Was Dismantled, Offers Illegal Plate-Swapped Vehicle

A Buriram furniture shop owner claims a moneylender has refused to return a pickup truck pledged as collateral for a 45,000-baht loan, instead claiming it was dismantled and offering an illegal plate-swapped vehicle for an additional 120,00

3d ago Khaosod

On May 23, 2025, 57-year-old Prachuak Sriphu, a wooden furniture shop owner in Muang District, Buriram Province, came forward with her son Punyapat Latthiwach and son-in-law Bunchaa Yodinthorn seeking assistance. They claim that in early October 2024, Prachuak purchased a pickup truck in her son's name for her daughter and son-in-law to use for furniture transport work. She then pledged the vehicle as collateral with a local moneylender for a 45,000-baht loan in Buriram city center.

"Within three months, I tried to reclaim the truck, but the moneylender refused," Prachuak explained. "He eventually claimed the vehicle had been dismantled. If I wanted a vehicle back, he said he'd find me one with a swapped license plate, but I'd have to pay an additional 120,000 baht. I refused because I didn't want an illegal vehicle. After multiple attempts to recover the original truck, he kept repeating the same story."

Prachuak said she decided to file a complaint at Muang Buriram Police Station in mid-February 2025. Investigators scheduled a mediation meeting at a hotel, but the moneylender refused to attend. The case remains unresolved.

According to Prachuak, she took out the loan during a period of financial difficulty. The moneylender deducted 4,500 baht in advance interest and 1,500 baht in storage fees from the 45,000-baht loan, leaving her with only 39,000 baht in cash. The moneylender charged 10 percent monthly interest without specifying a redemption date, requiring 4,500 baht monthly interest payments until the principal was repaid. Prachuak trusted him because he was familiar to the family—her son-in-law had previously played soccer for his team.

When she tried to contact him about reclaiming the truck, he became evasive. Eventually he claimed the vehicle had been dismantled and offered to provide a plate-swapped vehicle instead, initially asking for 60,000 baht down. Prachuak refused, emphasizing she wanted the original truck back, not an illegal substitute.

The moneylender's wife stated this was merely an offer and that recovering the original truck was impossible since it had been dismantled. If Prachuak accepted the swapped-plate vehicle, the price would be 120,000 to 150,000 baht, with 60,000 baht required upfront.

When Prachuak questioned how she could trust them without documentation and with the original truck still unreturned, the moneylender's wife became angry and threw them out, using derogatory language. This sparked an argument.

After leaving, Prachuak called the moneylender husband, who had remained silent during the discussion with his wife. She pleaded for him to allow her to reclaim the vehicle, explaining she was stuck paying the loan while unable to use the truck for work.

The moneylender falsely claimed that Prachuak's son-in-law had already reclaimed the truck on November 7, 2024. He also mentioned knowing police officers, suggesting she might not receive fair treatment. He threatened to file a complaint with a lawyer if she didn't back down.
