1d ago Khaosod

Chumphon Municipality Mayor Srichai Veeranorpanich has vowed to pursue legal action against all social media comments defaming him in connection with the installation of banners supporting the Chumphon-Ranong Land Bridge project. Following criticism on social media regarding the placement of support banners for the "Chumphon-Ranong Connecting Two Seas" Land Bridge project in Chumphon Municipality, the mayor stated that the issue has both supporters and opponents, urging residents not to worry. He emphasized that he cannot restrict either side from expressing their views, as both supporters and critics have democratic rights to voice their opinions. The mayor explained that an unidentified person requested permission to install the banners, which were intended solely to communicate information about the Land Bridge project—a government-level policy—to keep Chumphon residents informed. He stressed this does not imply that the municipality or city administration has any financial stake in the project, reiterating that he personally has no vested interest. However, the mayor recently posted on his personal Facebook, stating: "Whoever writes or comments defaming my banners and causing me harm, I will take legal action against every single person."

Tragic Discovery in Udon Thani: Woman Found Dead in Her Bedroom

A 49-year-old woman was found dead in her locked bedroom in Udon Thani's Dang housing estate, decomposed after at least five days; police detected no signs of foul play.

1d ago Khaosod

A tragic discovery unfolded in Udon Thani's Dang housing estate on May 25, 2569, when police responded to a report of a deceased person found inside a single-story residence. Deputy Inspector Thongphop Khamjai from Muang Udon Thani Police Station coordinated with rescue workers from Saang Metta Tham Udon Thani Foundation and medical examiners from Udon Thani Hospital to investigate.

Authorities found both the front and bedroom doors locked from the inside, requiring them to cut the locks and force entry. Inside, they discovered the body of Ms. Deuean Ttem Kaew Loy, 49, the homeowner, lying naked on her bed. The decomposed body had begun to emit a strong odor throughout the residence, with rescue personnel needing to light incense to help mitigate the smell before beginning body recovery operations. Medical examiners determined the victim had been deceased for at least five days, though no signs of struggle or physical assault were evident. Police have contacted relatives and transferred the body to Udon Thani Hospital pending family arrangements.

According to neighbor Pairojn, 47, who discovered the body, the victim had lived alone in the house for over a decade and regularly left to perform merit-making activities, particularly on holy days. However, for approximately one week prior, she had not been seen leaving, and her motorcycle remained parked in the yard while her fan and air conditioner continued running. When a Buddhist holy day passed without her usual appearance, Pairojn investigated and detected a strong odor emanating from the residence. He noticed an unlocked window, peered through the curtains, and was shocked to find her lying deceased inside.

"When I walked over to look through the window, the smell was very strong," Pairojn recounted. "When I moved the curtains aside, I was shocked to see her lying naked and already decomposed. I believe she had been dead for many days. Personally, I wasn't frightened because I was close with her."

Neighbors described the deceased as a friendly, cheerful, and sociable woman who regularly greeted those around her. She had no children and was believed to work in a restaurant business during evening hours. Her siblings were thought to reside in Nam Sohm District, Udon Thani Province. Police will continue investigating the cause of death thoroughly, while neighbors expressed their sorrow over the tragic incident. Pairojn concluded with a solemn wish: "If her spirit can understand, may she find peace and have no more worries."

No Escape: Former Prominent Party Spokesman Arrested for Bounced Check Scam at Condo, Over 100 Million Baht in Damages

Former Democratic Party spokesman Chawannont Intragomolsut was arrested for issuing bounced cheques totaling over 100 million baht in damages after disappearing for months to avoid settling debts with multiple victims.

1d ago Khaosod

On May 25, 2025, deputy police officer Pratompong Thongjamruen of the Metropolitan Police Bureau's Region 5 Division executed an arrest warrant from the Phra Khanong Norte Criminal Court (No. 275/2568, issued April 20, 2568) against Chawannont "Off" Intragomolsut on charges under the Cheque Act for "issuing cheques for payment of existing debts with the intention to prevent the cheque from being honored."

Investigations revealed that in 2566, Chawannont faced complaints from multiple victims alleging cheque fraud totaling millions of baht. After negotiation and settlement attempts, he issued cheques to cover the debts. However, multiple cheques subsequently bounced, prompting victims to file additional complaints. Chawannont then disappeared and became untraceable, leading the Phra Khanong Norte Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant.

Police traced Chawannont to a condominium in the Phra Khanong area where he was arrested after being spotted in the building. During interrogation, Chawannont claimed the warrant should be verified, stating he had previously negotiated settlements and had several warrants withdrawn. However, authorities confirmed the warrant remained valid and he remained a subject of the case.

Further investigation revealed Chawannont has two additional outstanding warrants and faces complaints from numerous victims in several cases awaiting warrant issuance, with total damages exceeding 100 million baht. Chawannont is a former spokesman for the Democratic Party and former secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs during Abhisit Vejjajiva's tenure as party leader.

Buddhist Monk Caught Camping in Forest with Beer Order, Found with Drug Paraphernalia; Complains Rider Shouldn't Have Posted Video After Tipping Well

A Buddhist monk camping in a Kanchanaburi forest was arrested after a delivery rider's video showed him with beer and drug paraphernalia, leading authorities to discover methamphetamine use and drug equipment at the site.

1d ago Khaosod

On May 25, 2569, a video shared online from Kanchanaburi Province showed a man dressed as a Buddhist monk relaxing in a hammock in the forest with beer bottles on the ground. When the rider filming asked to join him for a drink, the man responded that he was about to use drugs before chasing the rider away. The incident sparked criticism online, with questions about why a real monk would order beer. District Officer Somboorn Phaensomboorn of Mueang Kanchanaburi ordered an investigation into the forest area in Subdistrict Pak Phraek, Municipality of Mueang, Kanchanaburi Province. Officials found evidence of a campfire and drug equipment scattered on the ground, and located Phra Nanthapol, 50 years old.

Phra Nanthapol admitted to being the person in the video. He explained that he is from Kanchanaburi but had been ordained as a monk and was stationed at a temple in Phuket for 8 years. Feeling homesick, he returned to Kanchanaburi and had been camping on family land in the forest for about a week. Regarding the video, he stated that he ordered 6 beers and ice for delivery, not expecting the rider to post the video online despite receiving a good tip. He ordered the beer to alleviate loneliness while alone in the forest and had consumed 3 bottles when officials arrived. He expressed willingness to be defrocked.

When officials questioned him about the drug equipment, Phra Nanthapol initially denied using drugs. He was taken to Thewasangkharam Royal Temple to be defrocked before undergoing a urine test. The test returned positive for methamphetamine, causing Nanthapol to admit to drug use. He stated he had purchased 10 methamphetamine pills from a former friend at 100 baht each and had already consumed all of them. Authorities arrested Nanthapol and referred the case to Mueang Kanchanaburi Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Top, Former Thai Sepaktakraw Champion, Demands International Federation Adopt Technology Over Human Referees, Points Out Poor Calls Won't Get Sport Into Olympics

Thai sepaktakraw legend Top demands the international federation adopt VAR and Hawk-Eye technology to replace human referees, citing biased calls at the World Cup 2026 in Malaysia as an obstacle to Olympic recognition.

1d ago Khaosod

Top Ratchadej Noi Charoen, the legendary Thai sepaktakraw player, has publicly criticized the International Sepaktakraw Federation for biased refereeing at the ISTAF Sepaktakraw World Cup 2026 held at Titiwangsa Stadium in Malaysia. The Thai men's team withdrew during the final match against Malaysia after alleging unfair calls by referee Muhammad Radi, particularly a controversial line fault call in the third set that contradicted current rules.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Top clarified that the Thai team did not "walk out" but rather chose to concede the match mid-competition due to systemic refereeing problems. He emphasized that all team staff and athletes remained on the field through the end, participated in the closing ceremony, and received their medals as usual, even injured or distressed athletes returned to participate.

Top called on the global sepaktakraw community to implement international refereeing technology such as VAR and Hawk-Eye systems to ensure transparency and fairness. While expressing no ill will toward the referee, acknowledging the sport's fast pace and inherent pressure, he urged the federation to adopt these technologies to push sepaktakraw toward Olympic recognition. Top praised Malaysia's hosting and management and emphasized the "Go Together" motto of mutual growth, while not blaming Malaysia, the host, or the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association.

Top, serving as team manager and coordinator for the Thai national team, explained that despite recent leadership changes in the Thai Sepaktakraw Association that limited preparation time, the team sent its best athletes to honor the host, fans, and Thailand's reputation. He noted that while the World Cup is not as prestigious as the Southeast Asian Games or Asian Games, it ranks among the world's most important sepaktakraw tournaments, deserving full commitment from athletes, coaches, and staff.
