Residents Alarmed After Discovering Crocodile-Like Footprints on Island in Mae Klong River

Residents in Kanchanaburi Province have discovered large animal footprints and burrows on a Mae Klong River island that strongly resemble crocodile tracks, with evidence suggesting the creature could be at least 4 meters long. Community leaders have imposed a temporary ban on swimming and fishing in the area while provincial fisheries authorities investigate. Officials have not yet confirmed the animal's identity but urged residents to avoid the riverbank until the matter is resolved.

28 Apr Khaosod

Residents in Tambon Wai Niao, Amphoe Tha Maka District of Kanchanaburi Province are concerned after discovering large animal footprints on an island in the Mae Klong River that resemble crocodile tracks. A man named Niran was the first to spot the tracks and reported finding drag marks and footprints leading into the water, significantly larger than human-sized, though he suspects it may not be an ordinary fish. He no longer dares to swim in the area.

Chelampon Hongyont, chairman of the Region 7 Water Rescue Club, conducted an on-site investigation and discovered two large burrows with soil disturbance patterns suggesting a large animal attempting to enter the water. Body drag marks approximately 4 meters long were also found. Residents from a nearby village reported discovering a burrow about 3 meters deep with similar markings.

Hongyont noted that crocodile behavior typically involves basking during midday and retreating to burrows at night, though he stressed that the creature's identity remains unconfirmed and requires further investigation by fisheries officials.

The village headman has issued a warning to residents and fishermen in the area to avoid the riverbank and refrain from swimming temporarily until officials can definitively identify the animal to prevent potential accidents.

Summer Storms Batter Surin as Lightning Kills Cow in Rice Field; Owner Narrowly Escapes Death

A severe summer thunderstorm in Surin Province killed a cow with lightning on April 28, 2025, when it struck the tree to which the animal was tethered. The cow's owner, 66-year-old Thani Datsatrop, narrowly escaped the same fate after he ducked to the ground moments before the strike; had he reached the spot seconds later, he could have been electrocuted as well.

28 Apr Khaosod

At 5:30 p.m. on April 28, 2025, summer storms with severe lightning struck multiple areas across Surin Province. In Ban Thai village, Moo 11, in Si Kharin District, a female cow belonging to 66-year-old resident Thani Datsatrop was killed by lightning while tied to a teak tree in a rice field. The tree bore clear scorch marks from the strike, and authorities believe the lightning struck the tree directly, electrocuting the animal tied to it. Residents gathered at the scene expressed shock and fear, with some who were preparing their fields for rice planting particularly alarmed about their own safety.

Thani recounted that he was heading out to lead the cow back to its pen when the storm suddenly rolled in with heavy rain. A deafening clap of thunder made him drop to the ground in fear. When he approached to check, he found the cow already dead with visible burn marks. "I was lucky I hadn't reached where the cow was tied yet, or I could have been struck too," he said. No people were injured or killed in the incident. Thani expressed distress over the loss, noting the cow had been well cared for, and appealed to relevant agencies for assistance with his financial loss.

Australian International Criminal Arrested in Khon Kaen Safe House

Australian sex offender Richard was arrested in a Khon Kaen safe house after fleeing to Thailand to escape prosecution, with Thai and Australian authorities coordinating his capture and planned extradition.

28 Apr Khaosod

Region 4 Police Division collaborated with crime suppression units to arrest "Richard," an Australian international fugitive hiding in Khon Kaen, who has a shocking criminal history including child sexual abuse, possession of child exploitation material, and drug trafficking. April 28, 2025 - Police Commander Pairach Pukcharoen led Region 4 investigators alongside Khon Kaen Police, crime suppression officers, and tourism police in a coordinated operation to search a luxury residence in central Khon Kaen, which was being used as a safe house for the fugitive wanted by Australian authorities.

Officers successfully apprehended Mr. Richard, an Australian national, while he was resting inside the residence. This arrest resulted from close coordination between the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Bangkok office and Thailand's Immigration Bureau.

Richard has an extensive and disturbing criminal record, appearing on Australia's Sex Offender Register. His criminal history includes: • Sexual assault and indecent acts against children (primary conviction) • Possession of child sexual abuse material • Assault and drug distribution

The danger posed by Richard prompted Queensland Police to issue an immediate arrest warrant, and the Australian Federation had cancelled his passport to prevent travel. However, he managed to evade authorities and illegally enter Thailand, using Khon Kaen as an intended permanent hiding place.

Region 4 Police Commander emphasized the "Zero Tolerance" policy toward international criminals. This operation aligns with the National Police Office's strict directive to eliminate foreign criminals seeking Thailand as a safe haven, particularly those involved in child exploitation and human trafficking—threats recognized as international-level crimes.

Authorities are currently holding Richard in custody for legal proceedings before coordinating his extradition back to Australia to serve his sentence, bringing an end to his cross-border fugitive status.

Iran "Ready to Share" Weapons and Defense Capabilities with Allied Nations

Iran's defense minister said Tehran is willing to share weapons and military expertise with allied nations, particularly members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, following recent military operations against the U.S. and Israel. The

28 Apr Khaosod

Iran's Deputy Defense Minister Reza Talaei-Nik announced on April 28 that Tehran is prepared to share weapons and defense capabilities with "independent countries, especially members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)." Speaking during an SCO defense ministers conference in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Talaei-Nik stated: "We are ready to share our experience from America's defeat with other members of the organization."

Iran has conducted military operations against the United States and Israel from late February through early April, launching drones and missiles to strike U.S. military bases throughout the Middle East, including in Israel, and engaging U.S. air targets in Iranian airspace on multiple occasions.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has rejected Iran's proposal to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the U.S. lifts its economic sanctions on Iran. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio appeared to dismiss the proposal during a Fox News interview on April 27, stating: "We need to ensure that any agreement made must prevent them from accelerating nuclear weapons development at any time," referencing a separate Pakistani proposal.

Since the conflict began on February 28, at least 3,375 people have died in Iran, while Lebanon—heavily targeted by Israel in operations against Hezbollah—has suffered 2,521 deaths. Israel has reported 23 civilian deaths, with 16 Israeli soldiers killed in Lebanon. Additionally, 13 American military personnel and 6 United Nations peacekeepers have been killed during operations in southern Lebanon.

Tragedy as 15-Year-Old Kayak Athlete Drowns During Training in Samut Prakan Canal

A 15-year-old kayak athlete from Samut Prakan province drowned on April 28 while training in a canal near his school. The student, who was preparing to compete in the National Youth Games, became trapped in his overturned kayak and was discovered submerged by teammates. He was pronounced dead at the hospital despite rescue efforts.

28 Apr Khaosod

A 15-year-old kayak athlete representing Samut Prakan province drowned while practicing in a canal on the evening of April 28. The Samut Prakan Rescue Command received an emergency call about an unconscious student in the water near a canal behind Nawamintharachinuthist Preparatory School in Bang Bo district. Rescue personnel and an ambulance from Bang Bo Hospital were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The victim, identified as Poo Gan, a 15-year-old kayak athlete at the school, was found unresponsive with no pulse. Rescue workers performed CPR before urgently transporting him to Bang Saothong Hospital.

More than 10 fellow kayak team members, who were training alongside the victim, were devastated by the tragedy. Some broke down in tears while hugging each other, and others sat in shock by the waterside. Rescue personnel and coaches had to provide close supervision and emotional support to the grief-stricken young athletes.

According to interviews with his teammates, the victim and his fellow athletes were provincial representatives preparing to compete in the 41st National Youth Games, also known as "Surat Thani Games," scheduled for May 7-17, 2025, in Surat Thani province. Training had begun around 4:00 PM, with the victim practicing kayak alone. When his teammates' boat returned to shore about 3-5 minutes later, they discovered his kayak capsized in the canal with no sign of him. Teammates rushed to search and found him submerged. They pulled him to shore and attempted CPR, but he was unresponsive.

The victim was normally healthy and strong. Preliminary investigation suggests he may have suffered fainting or heat stroke while paddling. When the kayak flipped, his leg became trapped inside the overturned boat. Because no one witnessed the incident and nearby neighbors were elderly residents resting indoors, he could not be rescued immediately.

Rescue officials confirmed that when they arrived at the scene, teachers and teammates had already been performing CPR. However, the victim had no pulse upon their arrival. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Warning: Oversized Sunscreen Shirt Leaves 11-Year-Old Boy with Fractured Arm After Getting Caught in Motorcycle Wheel

An 11-year-old boy in Udon Thani province suffered a fractured arm when his oversized sunscreen shirt became caught in his mother's motorcycle wheel while they were riding to summer school. Emergency responders quickly freed the boy, who remained calm throughout the incident, and he was transported safely to the hospital. The incident has prompted warnings from authorities about the dangers of loose-fitting clothing while riding motorcycles.

28 Apr Khaosod

On April 28, emergency services in Udon Thani province responded to a report of a child with an arm trapped in a motorcycle wheel on Mak Khaeng Road. The victim, an 11-year-old boy nicknamed Ball, had his left arm caught in the wheel and chain when his oversized long-sleeved shirt, worn for sun and wind protection, accidentally slipped down and became entangled in the motorcycle's spinning chain while his mother was driving him to summer school. The rotating chain pulled the shirt sleeve and violently yanked his arm into the wheel, fracturing the bone.

When chaos erupted at the scene, Pongsak Promraksai, a 56-year-old emergency response officer from the Udon Thani municipality who was nearby, heard the cries for help and rushed to assist. He borrowed large metal cutters from nearby residents to cut the motorcycle chain and relieve the pressure on the boy's arm. Throughout the ordeal, the boy's mother held him tightly while Ball remained remarkably composed and did not cry. After a considerable amount of time, responders successfully freed his arm. Emergency volunteers from the Dharma Promotion Foundation of Udon Thani then provided first aid, discovering the fractured left arm and a laceration near the ear before transporting him to Udon Thani Hospital, where he is now safe.

Officer Pongsak emphasized that this incident serves as a cautionary reminder to parents and guardians to be careful about their children's clothing while riding as passengers on motorcycles, particularly oversized shirts, scarves, or long skirts that could become entangled in the chain or wheel, potentially causing unexpected tragedy.
