Temple Fish Feeding Drama: Young Man Brings Own Feed by the Sack, Confronted by Aggressive Caretaker

A young man from Chachoengsao province sparked an online controversy after posting a video of being verbally abused by a temple caretaker when he attempted to donate fish feed at Pong Aakad Temple. Suphanat, 31, had brought his own sack of feed worth over 300 baht but was harshly treated when asking to borrow a feeding scoop. He is calling on temple authorities to improve management and oversight of the fish feeding station to ensure visitors can make merit donations peacefully.

6 May Khaosod

A contentious online dispute involving temple fish feeding has gone viral in Chachoengsao province after a social media user posted a one-minute video documenting an incident at Pong Aakad Temple in Bang Nam Phueo District. The user brought a sack of fish feed to make a merit donation with his family, but was treated with hostility and harsh language by the male caretaker managing the fish feeding station.

On May 6, 2569, a reporter visited the temple to investigate and found the male caretaker was not present. The automatic 10-baht coin donation box that appeared covered in the clip was found open, with some feeding equipment scattered about. However, the 20-baht merit donation box where the caretaker had been sitting remained in its original position.

When interviewed, the person who posted the video identified himself as Suphanat, 31 years old. He revealed that he and his family regularly bring fish feed to this temple each month as a personal merit-making practice, since he works in the Buddha amulet trading business. On the afternoon in question, he purchased his own sack of fish feed worth over 300 baht because he felt the limited feed sold at the temple might not be sufficient for the large number of fish in the pond.

Suphanat explained that he normally feeds the fish at a different location, but switched to this spot due to construction debris at his usual feeding point. He asked the caretaker politely to borrow a feeding scoop, but was refused in an unfriendly manner. Undeterred, he retrieved a plastic container from his car instead. However, when he and his family began feeding the fish, the caretaker verbally attacked them aggressively.

Feeling confronted, Suphanat recorded the caretaker's behavior on his phone. Upon realizing he was being filmed, the caretaker fell silent and claimed his harsh tone was due to fear that splashing water might flood the fish pen. Some online commenters have suggested the caretaker's fish feed may be independently operated rather than temple-sanctioned, potentially explaining his resistance to outside feed.

Suphanat emphasized that he did not intend to create conflict with the temple, but was provoked when the caretaker challenged him to report the incident to the abbot. He hopes that temple authorities or relevant organizations will establish better management and improve oversight of the fish feeding station, so that merit-makers can donate peacefully without experiencing such unpleasant encounters.

A man was fatally shot after breaking into a contractor's home in Kumphawapi District, Udon Thani Province on May 6, 2569. The victim's family gathered at his residence to prepare for funeral rites that evening, with relatives and community members setting up tents and arranging food. When the body arrived at the home, the victim's sisters, Samran, 60, and Sangwan, 58, used an umbrella tied to the roof beam to cover the coffin—a traditional practice believed to prevent a cat from jumping over the coffin, which would allegedly disturb the spirit. The sisters lit incense and urged their brother's spirit to move on to a better realm and be reborn as siblings in the next life, asking him not to seek revenge on the shooter. According to the sisters, their brother was the youngest of five siblings, had no criminal history, and worked collecting scrap materials. 'Seiya Lek' Clarifies 'Shoot MP, 200,000 Baht Bail' Post Was Simply a Misunderstanding, Not Referring to Phuket Democrat MP

A Phuket Democrat MP filed a complaint after receiving a threatening Facebook post, which the poster 'Seiya Lek' claims was a misunderstanding regarding a news story about another MP's shooting case. The incident stems from the MP's inspection of Freedom Beach, where he discovered illegal land occupation, resort construction, and fraudulent land sales to foreigners totaling 18 million baht, with the influential figure operating unauthorized entrance fees and alcohol sales on the public beach.

6 May Khaosod

'Seiya Lek' clarifies that the post about 'shooting an MP with 200,000 baht bail' was merely a misunderstanding and did not target the Phuket Democrat Party MP. He emphasizes he is not an influential figure and had no intention to intimidate. May 6, 2026 – In a recent development, Chalermphong Saengdee, a Democrat Party MP representing Phuket District 2, filed a complaint alleging he was threatened by a local influential figure in a Facebook post stating 'shoot the MP, 200,000 baht bail, there's hope now.' Previously, Chalermphong had inspected Freedom Beach, ranked among the world's top 9 beaches, and discovered illegal land occupation, encroachment into Khao Naka Yai National Forest, construction of a luxury resort, collection of entrance fees from foreigners, and fraudulent land sales to foreigners totaling 18 million baht. The individual also posted criticism against Chalermphong's parliamentary duties, questioning why he didn't inspect other beaches and accusing him of unfairly targeting this area, followed by the threatening post that raised concerns about the MP's safety while performing his duties. Meanwhile, it was revealed that this influential figure was charging foreigners 300 baht per person for beach access and selling alcoholic beverages to beach visitors, despite the beach being public property that cannot be privately occupied. Consequently, the Forestry Department must reclaim the area and demolish the structures. In the latest development, 'Seiya Lek,' identified as Printhon, the author of the post, issued a clarification through the Facebook page 'Crude Phuket Province,' stating that his post carried no malicious intent or threat toward any MP. He explained that the post stemmed from following news about the shooting of a Narathiwat MP, where reports indicated the court approved a 200,000 baht bail for the suspect, prompting him to comment with questions about the situation. However, an error occurred because he posted only the caption without the original news content, resulting in widespread misunderstanding. He reaffirmed that he had no intention to harm anyone and has always respected the law, stating that the news caused damage to him and his family.

FIFA Bans Argentina Player from 2026 World Cup

Argentine midfielder Juan Luciano Prestianni faces a two-match ban at the 2026 World Cup after FIFA extended his suspension for making derogatory remarks about Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior during a Champions League match.

6 May Khaosod

FIFA has confirmed the extension of a ban on Juan Luciano Prestianni, an Argentine national team player, from the 2026 World Cup at UEFA's request. This decision compels the Argentine national team to drop Prestianni from their roster after FIFA extended his worldwide ban. If he is included in Argentina's squad, he would be banned from two World Cup matches, following UEFA's original six-match suspension imposed for making derogatory remarks toward Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior during a UEFA Champions League match.

"FIFA's disciplinary committee has decided to extend the six-match ban imposed by UEFA on Juan Luciano Prestianni, a player from Benfica, to have worldwide effect," FIFA stated in its announcement.

However, if coach Lionel Scaloni decides to call up Prestianni anyway, he would be unable to play in the opening match against Algeria on June 17 and the match against Austria five days later. He could only debut in the final group stage match against Jordan on June 28. If he is not selected for the World Cup squad, Prestianni must serve the remainder of his ban in UEFA-sanctioned competitions during the 2026/27 season.

6 May Khaosod

Former abbot Tid Sombat of Wat Sanam Chai has opened up about his decision to disrobe, citing stress and exhaustion from monastery duties rather than any conflict with senior monks. After disappearing for about two months, during which he traveled to northern Thailand and lived simply by bicycle and shelter, he reappeared in Ayutthaya where he was emotionally reunited with temple officials who embraced him tearfully.

Tid Sombat explained that his decision came after nearly 20 years of accumulated pressure from financial difficulties and temple responsibilities. He admitted to taking some temple funds but stated the amount was less than 100,000 baht and that he intends to resolve the matter with the temple and police. He traveled through Tak, Phitsanulok, Chiang Rai, and Chiang Mai, sleeping in shelters and at gas stations, and intentionally disconnected by discarding his phone.

The former abbot denied reports of conflict with the senior monk and emphasized that no one was at fault except himself for abandoning his duties due to stress and debt. He expressed gratitude to villagers for their concern and confirmed he is now safe, though still recovering physically and mentally. Police confirmed that no criminal charges have been filed since this was handled as a missing person case, and the matter has been resolved.
