Weekly Horoscope – Probability Trends for the Week (May 13-17, 2026)

Setsathawut Luckna (Lucky) Aries: This week, your work won't progress as expected, but you may profit from risky ventures like day trading or lottery draws. Difficult tasks will become harder or run into obstacles. Think of work merely as a means to earn money. Be patient and careful rather than hasty. Income should be adequate; expenses will decrease if you don't panic. Colleague irritation may easily trigger your temper, and anger could unfortunately block some opportunities.

Luckna (Lucky) Taurus: You'll gain benefits from elders or inherit something. Though emotionally fragile, you'll handle it normally and solve immediate problems easily with your sharp wit. You can reconcile angry people and help misunderstanding lovers understand each other. Your current struggles will show long-term benefits. Finances will stabilize, expenses become more controllable, and you'll live more joyfully. Romantic partners may become distant, and business partners often create problems.

Luckna (Lucky) Gemini: You'll have lower expenses or higher income, especially from superiors. Your work will shine brightly; superiors will recognize you regardless of distance. Mercury in your loss house makes contracts and speaking for others risky—carelessness brings trouble. Though life improves, you may not feel truly satisfied. Don't spend money on old matters or antiquities. Your romantic partner will care well for you.

Luckna (Lucky) Cancer: You may upset important superiors at home or work, even to serious anger. You'll have foreign contacts or communicate with overseas friends. Mercury advances in your gain house—negotiations succeed easily. Business runs smoothly with good profits. Some stress about benefits may remain, but finances flow normally. Family or neighbors may cause trouble, but after May ends, everything improves significantly.

Luckna (Lucky) Leo: Saturn transits your death house, making you impatient with hardship and waiting. Your carefulness and thoroughness will greatly benefit you. You'll gain from new friends, subordinates, work, or important documents. Whatever you want, politely asking elders brings success. Arguments go your way due to your cleverness. If young, you'll prefer socializing at night to quiet solitude, but avoid all vices.

Luckna (Lucky) Virgo: You have internal strength and support...

Holiday Temple Visit – Discover Wat Si Chum in Historic Sukhothai, Revere the Buddha Image and the Legend of the Speaking Buddha

Wat Si Chum in Sukhothai Historical Park houses a massive 15-meter Buddha image called Phra Atchana, legendary as a "speaking Buddha" that allegedly inspired troops during King Naresuan's 16th-century campaign through a soldier hidden behin

3d ago Khaosod

Wat Si Chum in Muang Kao subdistrict, Sukhothai, is one of the most significant archaeological monuments within the Sukhothai Historical Park. The term 'Si Chum' originates from 'Sahli Chum,' where 'sahli' is an archaic word meaning Bodhi tree, later refined to 'si.' Thus, 'Si Chum' refers to a grove of Bodhi trees. It is believed to have been constructed during the reign of King Ramkhamhaeng, appearing in the first Sukhothai stone inscription, which states: 'Below the city of Sukhothai there is a market called Pasan, there is Phra Atchana, there is a prang, there are areca palm groves, there are rice paddies and orchards, there are settlements with large and small houses.' Scholars believe the Phra Atchana mentioned is the ancient outdoor Buddha image enshrined at Wat Si Chum itself, notable for the legend that identifies it as a 'speaking Buddha.'

Historical records show that Wat Si Chum underwent major restoration during the reign of King Lithai, during the Ayutthaya period, and continued to receive maintenance before being abandoned in the late Ayutthaya era. It was not until the reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) that a comprehensive restoration project was launched under the direction of Field Marshal P. Phibunsongkhram, Prime Minister of that era, between 1953-1956. This restoration utilized ancient architectural methods, techniques, and materials, including a complete reconstruction of Phra Atchana modeled after Sukhothai bronze sculpture by Professor Peerasri and artisan Khian Yim Siri.

Today, Wat Si Chum retains only one major sanctuary—a square mondop measuring 32 meters per side and 15 meters high, designed in the Sukhothai tradition. Rather than a place of worship, it was constructed to replicate the Kandakuti, the Buddha's dwelling during the Buddhist era. Inside, a monumental Buddha image known as Phra Atchana sits in sublime repose.

The name Phra Atchana derives from the Pali word 'achala,' meaning 'unshakeable' or 'worthy of reverence.' This large stucco Buddha image, reinforced with brick and stone, measures 11.30 meters across the chest and 15 meters in height. It sits in the Maravichai posture with even meditation focus, displaying beautiful Sukhothai art characteristics—a well-proportioned, serene visage graced with a gentle smile and compassion.

Legend claims Phra Atchana was a sacred 'speaking Buddha,' but the truth lies elsewhere. During the Ayutthaya period, when King Naresuan proclaimed independence in 1568 at Khaeng, several cities ceased paying tribute to Burma. However, Chiang Mai refused to comply, so the King led forces to subdue the city. Before the campaign, troops assembled at Wat Si Chum. Since this was Thai fighting Thai, soldiers lacked morale and determination. King Naresuan devised a strategic plan: he had one soldier climb behind the Buddha image and speak words of encouragement to the troops, inspiring them to fight with renewed vigor.

This demonstrates the clever psychological tactics of Thai monarchy in bolstering troop morale before battle. Since then, Phra Atchana of Wat Si Chum has been renowned as a 'speaking Buddha' to the present day. Additionally, King Naresuan performed the Sri Satya Pana Ceremony (water oath ritual) at this temple.

Another significant aspect of Wat Si Chum is the discovery of the second Sukhothai stone inscription, crucial evidence for understanding Sukhothai's history.

Marking Culture and Art – A Million Cats and One Cat: Line Art of the Metropolis

Artist Niem Mawon Konong presents AI-generated cat imagery in a new solo exhibition at Siam Paragon exploring identity and sameness in an era of artificial intelligence and information overload.

3d ago Khaosod

"You might be wondering what those oddly-postured cats in these drawings are. Actually, I created them based on images generated by Generative AI or Chatbot AI, which we've all become familiar with in this era. Many people use it for work, and some feel it's already become part of their lives," says Niem Mawon Konong, discussing her AI artwork in the solo exhibition "Millions of CATS and ONE CAT."

Siam Paragon, in collaboration with Joyman Gallery and M Contemporary, has created a special artistic experience through the exhibition "TRILLION STORIES UNDER THE SKY," inviting everyone to explore the meaning of identity and the world we inhabit while questioning humanity, cities, and relationships in our current era. Through two solo exhibitions by contemporary artists who interpret the world with distinctive perspectives, the exhibition opens "millions of stories" under one sky, running until May 22 at Art Jewel, Asia's newest art exhibition space on the 5th floor of Siam Paragon.

The "TRILLION STORIES UNDER THE SKY" exhibition combines two compelling shows: "Millions of CATS and ONE CAT," a solo exhibition by Niem Mawon Konong that explores relationships between images, systems, and identity in an era of information overload and artificial intelligence's daily presence. Through countless cats depicted across 27 acrylic paintings on canvas, the work reflects the coexistence in a world where differences gradually fade and sameness becomes the social standard. Rather than providing answers, this exhibition opens space for viewers to question perception, understanding, and the meaning of existence in a world filled with unprecedented "abundance" and "similarity."

"I myself use AI, but I see it more as a toy than a serious tool because it's unreliable. This series of paintings formed somewhere between me playing with its unreliability. Small deviations in each result sparked imagination for the next set of commands. I felt like I was playing catch with it—we took turns speaking sentence by sentence, and before I knew it, we had created a long story," Niem explains. "Among a million cats, there is one cat. While creating this series, I thought about the massive data that feeds AI—millions of images and sounds circulating within it, forming a massive storm consuming everything. But on another side, in a quiet corner, there's another set of information that no one else can perceive except ourselves."

Meanwhile, "BENEATH THE HORIZON LINE," a solo exhibition by Zillustation (Karun Jiamuviriyasathian), invites viewers to slow down and discover the beauty of the city in dimensions they may never have noticed before. The work presents the "city" as a living space filled with stories, encounters, and memories. The series stands out with delicate black and white lines from a black ink pen, conveying artistic maps that blend reality and imagination with pop art aesthetics and contemporary cultural references in sophisticated layers, creating a world that appears surreal yet reflects the hidden beauty and lifestyle of the metropolis.

Live from the Temple Grounds – One Million Candles Lit, One Million Chants Completed as Buddhist Offerings for World Visakha Bucha Day

Thailand's Department of Religious Affairs launched a major campaign for World Visakha Bucha Day, with celebrations May 29-31 featuring one million candles lit and Buddhist chants performed at temples nationwide to commemorate the Buddha's

3d ago Khaosod

The Department of Religious Affairs under the Ministry of Culture has announced a major Buddhist promotion campaign for the 2569 Buddhist Era Visakha Bucha festival under the theme "Light One Million Candles, Chant One Million Verses, Offer Buddhist Worship on World Visakha Bucha Day." Lighting candles symbolizes wisdom that dispels darkness from the mind, bringing prosperity and spiritual blessings to life. Chanting Buddhist prayers cultivates a calm, mindful mind and builds mental strength—the foundation for living conscientiously.

Department Director Chaiyapol Sukiam explained that this event provides Buddhists and people from all sectors an opportunity to perform merit-making and preserve cultural traditions while applying Buddhist teachings to daily life. The celebration commemorates three significant days: the Buddha's birth, which reflects the greatness of humanity; his enlightenment, when he discovered the Four Noble Truths as the path to end suffering; and his parinirvana, which demonstrates impermanence and non-self—truths that even the Buddha embodied.

The central celebration runs May 29-31, 2569 at Wat Benjakitti Dusit Wanarama in Bangkok's Dusit district, open to the public from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Activities include veneration of sacred objects, water-pouring ceremonies on the Bodhi tree, lotus folding demonstrations, community food tastings, evening chanting of the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta, and a spectacular illuminated garden display.

On May 31, Visakha Bucha Day, major ceremonies begin in the morning with almsgiving to monks, cloth and pole offerings to the Bodhi tree, candle lighting, and chanting. The evening will feature candlelight processions and robes offerings for blessings, with the venue illuminated by faith throughout the night.

Regional activities will be coordinated with provincial cultural offices nationwide, incorporating local contexts through Dharma chanting, merit-making, meditation, sermons, stupa cloth offerings, and candlelight ceremonies as part of the nationwide "One Million Candles, One Million Chants" initiative.

Sunny Days – 'Namcha': Entertainment is in Her DNA, Full of Energy to Try Something New Every Day

Thai actress Namcha returns to film after five years away, starring in 'Khao Kala' alongside director Toffee Sombat Hadsopith, with whom she bonded over UFO spotting and personal experiences she claims to have had with extraterrestrials.

3d ago Khaosod

After a five-year hiatus from acting, actress 'Namcha' Chiranaught Yusamund is returning to the screen in the film 'Khao Kala.' The actress opens up about her decision to join the project, sharing personal experiences with extraterrestrials that she encountered herself. She also updates on her family life and her transition to becoming an online merchant.

How did she get involved in the film Khao Kala?

Namecha explained: "Actually, I was one of the people who went UFO spotting with director Toffee (Sombat Hadsopith), and we got to know each other through that activity. Then Toffee asked if I was interested in being part of his project. He was working on the film Khao Kala. I was probably the last one invited because we met Toffee quite late. When we got together, I shared an experience I had as a child, and that became the starting point."

Did she already believe in this before?

Namecha: "I didn't believe at first, not until I experienced it myself."

When news came out that she might have been abducted by aliens, did people make a big fuss?

Namecha: "People were quite shocked because my experience was very tangible and direct. Many people might have seen something, but mine was something that felt real and they were about to take me."

When the incident happened, did many people know about it?

Namecha: "Only I knew about it. Actually, I told this story on a television show about 10 years ago, right after it happened. But it became treated as a joke or something crazy because back then, people were much less open to this kind of thing. There were many negative comments, so I lost my confidence and became very paranoid. I stopped talking about it altogether.

Then I met Toffee, who is very clear and knowledgeable about this topic. At first, I didn't want to get involved anymore and wanted to leave it in the past. I took some time to decide whether to act in this film because I knew there would be more comments. Plus, I'm married now with a family, so I have to think more carefully. I wanted to live peacefully, but eventually I agreed."

What made her decide to take the role?

Namecha: "I felt that when this story came up, and considering all the experiences I had with Toffee, including UFO spotting together, and the fact that I haven't been involved in this for over a decade, there must be something that keeps me connected to this. It feels like they're trying to connect with me, not letting me disappear from them.

After I went UFO spotting with Toffee, he told me to pay attention to the number 7—that from now on, I would see the number 7 every day, no matter where I looked. And it's actually true. Every day when I pick up my phone, I see 17, 77, 07, or the time 17:07 constantly. So I felt like they wanted me to do this, to share this quite intense experience that happened to me."

Looking back at that first encounter at age 20, has she experienced something similar again?

Namecha: "There was that one time, and then the day after. The second time, they didn't try to take me away, but came in a different form instead. After that, I've been researching it continuously."

Now that people are more open to this topic, does she feel more confident talking about it?

Namecha: "I do feel more confident now because it's not just people calling me crazy anymore. There are groups of believers and people with similar direct experiences who come and encourage me in the comments. I'll admit that at first when I came forward with my experience and encountered people who thought I was crazy, some even attacked me personally. I was very paranoid at that time and didn't want to talk about it anymore. But now that people are reaching out to me in a supportive way, I feel confident."

Did she need to get her husband's permission before taking this role?

Namecha: "I discussed it with him first, asking if it was okay and if he was embarrassed. But he looked at the quality of the production and the world-class team behind it. Everything seemed professional."

New Ebola Outbreak Confirmed in DRC with 65 Deaths; Unknown Virus Strain Raises Concerns

3d ago Khaosod

The African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed a new Ebola outbreak in Ituri Province in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo on Friday, May 15th local time. At least 246 suspected cases have been reported with 65 deaths, occurring roughly five months after the previous outbreak in Congo ended with 43 deaths.

Ebola virus spreads easily through bodily fluids including blood, vomit, and semen. While rare, the disease is severe and often fatal, with four laboratory-confirmed deaths and additional suspected cases in the city of Bunia awaiting confirmation.

Preliminary laboratory testing detected Ebola virus in 13 of 20 samples, indicating this is not the Zaire strain commonly found in previous Congo outbreaks. Officials are conducting genetic sequencing to further characterize this strain.

The World Health Organization noted last year that Congo had approximately 2,000 doses of Ervebo vaccine available, though this vaccine is only effective against the Zaire strain of Ebola.

Ebola is classified in the same disease group as dengue fever and is a severe infectious disease caused by the Ebola virus. While not yet detected in Thailand, infection can be life-threatening. The disease is primarily found in Africa, with an incubation period of 2-21 days. Initial symptoms include high fever, weakness, muscle pain, headache, and sore throat. Secondary symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, skin rashes, and abnormal liver and kidney function. In severe cases, patients experience internal and external bleeding, with high mortality rates due to liver and kidney failure and damage to internal organs.
