Mother Sobs While Holding Body of 2-Year-Old Son Who Drowned Following Dog into Water Tank Behind Village
A 2-year-old boy drowned in a water tank behind a village in Samut Prakan after following the family dog into the water; his father discovered him floating and attempted rescue, but the child could not be revived.
A mother collapsed in grief, clutching the body of her 2-year-old son who drowned after following the family dog into a large water tank behind the village. The father discovered the boy floating in the tank and jumped in to help, but arrived too late.
At 2:00 PM on May 1, 2025, Bang Kaew Police Station in Samut Prakan received a report of a child drowning in a water tank behind a residential area in Rachathewa Sub-district, Bang Phli District. Police and rescue volunteers from Ruam Katanyu Foundation immediately responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found the Cambodian father had already retrieved his 2-year-old son from the large tank, but the child was already without vital signs. Rescue teams performed CPR and attempted heart massage, but the child had already died from lack of oxygen. The family, particularly the mother, was devastated as she held and wept over her son's body.
The father stated that his son regularly came to play in the water in this area with his mother and frequently liked to chase after the family dog to play in the water. On that day, after he returned to the workers' quarters for lunch, he could not find his son. He went searching and suspected the boy might have followed the dog to the tank. When he arrived, he found his son floating a considerable distance from the shore and quickly jumped in to lift him out of the water, but the child had already died.
Authorities transported the body for autopsy and conducted a legal investigation before allowing the family to retrieve the body for religious ceremonies.
