Thailand's durian boom is driving a 60% surge in J&T Express shipments, prompting the logistics company to deploy over 100 backup trucks and launch 15 dedicated delivery routes ahead of peak season in May-June.
J&T Express experiences 60% surge in shipments, plans 15 dedicated durian delivery routes, deploys over 100 backup trucks, and extends distribution center hours until midnight.
Global Jet Express (Thailand) Limited, operating as J&T Express, reports that 2569 is a golden year for Thai durian. The company forecasts total production this year will reach approximately 1.89 million tons, a 21.4% increase compared to the previous year.
Chanthaburi province, the country's primary durian-producing region, accounts for over 60% of national output, creating bustling harvest activity throughout the area. While Thai durian traditionally relied on export markets, the government now actively promotes domestic consumption, creating a market structure of 70% export and 30% domestic sales to absorb the increased production. The government has implemented continuous support measures to drive strong growth in Thailand's durian industry.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, together with the Ministry of Commerce, are driving fruit management initiatives for 2569 through eight proactive measures to boost domestic consumption to 550,000 tons.
The Ministry of Commerce has signed a cooperation agreement with TikTok platform and allocated over 6.5 million baht to support over 20,000 small and medium local entrepreneurs entering the digital market.
Since mid-April, J&T Express has seen rapid increases in durian shipments in the Eastern Region, particularly from Chanthaburi and Rayong provinces. During April 15-30, durian shipments from Chanthaburi increased by 60% compared to the same period last year.
"To support the peak season for Monthong durian sales between late May and June, the company has planned 15 dedicated durian delivery routes in the Eastern Region, prepared over 100 backup trucks, and extended distribution center closing time to midnight to fully meet increased transportation demand."
Thailand is comprehensively accelerating support for the durian industry throughout the supply chain. In production, the government promotes good agricultural practices coupled with quality control centers to upgrade standards from cultivation. In processing, the government supports deep-processing industry development through value-added products such as frozen durian and durian-processed goods to increase product value, expand distribution channels, and mitigate market volatility impacts.
On the market side, Thailand maintains strength in major export markets like China while seriously pushing domestic market expansion to efficiently and sustainably balance supply and demand.
Critically, the logistics system has transformed from a traditional transportation supporter into a key mechanism balancing domestic and international supply and demand, serving as the main driver elevating industry potential. Logistics not only removes cross-border export constraints, allowing Thai durian to access global markets smoothly, but also strengthens domestic distribution networks to support expanding consumption trends.
