Gun videos lead police to Indian man with drugs on Koh Pha NganLegacyPolice arrested an Indian man on Koh Pha Ngan yesterday, May 23, after videos showed a foreigner posing with guns and practising shooting, with officers later finding drugs and drug price lists on his phone. The suspect, identified as 33 year old Shabeelkunnon Valappil, was arrested at a residence in Koh Pha Ngan district, Surat Thani. Police charged him with overstaying his visa. Photo via Khaosod Officers said the arrest followed a May 13 operation targeting foreign-run businesses allegedly using Thai nominees on Koh Pha Ngan. Residents later reported a foreigner allegedly gathering with others, selling drugs near a durian orchard in Ban Tai, and regularly firing guns near his accommodation. Police identified the man as Shabeelkunnon and went to inspect the property. They found three houses at the site and were told by the owner that the suspect was outside but returning. Officers then hid nearby until Shabeelkunnon arrived on a dirt bike. The suspect reportedly tried to run away when police identified themselves but was detained. Photo via DailyNews A search allegedly found nine bags of drugs in his left trouser pocket, along with an aluminium tube and a small metal tool hidden in a pink bag. Police said they also seized large quantities of crystal meth, ecstasy, MDMA, and ketamine. Investigators said the Indian appeared to have an interest in firearms, with photos showing him posing with both handguns and long guns. Officers also found signs of shooting practice, including spent cartridges and shooting targets. Khaosod reported that police also arrested a Thai man identified as Apidet, who was found with one firearm and drugs. Photo via Khaosod A check of Shabeelkunnon’s mobile phone allegedly found images listing several types of drugs with clear prices. Police believe this supported allegations that he was involved in selling drugs in the Koh Samui area. Shabeelkunnon was taken with the seized items to Koh Pha Ngan Police Station for legal proceedings. In addition to the overstay charge, Shabeelkunnon could face further charges related to illegal drug possession, alleged drug distribution, and firearms offences if police determine there is sufficient evidence. Photo via Khaosod Elsewhere, Airport Interdiction Task Force (AITF) officers at Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok arrested an Indian man for smuggling cocaine worth 17 million baht (around US$520,000) into Thailand. Wait and See, Says Arne: Liverpool Will Be Stronger Next Season With Two More Signings

Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes one or two winter signings could significantly boost the Reds' chances next season after a trophy-less campaign despite £450 million in transfers.

2d ago Khaosod

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed confidence that the Reds will significantly strengthen next season if the club brings in one or two more players. Liverpool has underperformed this season under Slot's management, failing to win any major trophies despite spending over £450 million on transfers. Slot believes signing one or two additional players during the winter break would greatly improve Liverpool's prospects for next year. "I think we need to do better in many aspects of the game next season, such as set pieces and converting from set pieces," Slot said. "We're also not creating enough opportunities from open play or scoring enough from open play." "Yes, there are many things we need to improve, but many clubs have shown that signing two new players during the winter break can have a massive impact," he continued. "I'm not saying these two players will make the difference, but sometimes you need to add things to the team to help the rest develop and improve as well." "That's normal for clubs going through a transition, especially one like ours, because we can't complete the transition in a single transfer window for obvious reasons," Slot explained. "I think Jurgen Klopp's best Liverpool team, which competed for all trophies, also took several years to build. We've made great progress with signings in last summer's transfer window, and these players will develop alongside our existing squad. If we can strengthen with one or two more players, I believe our team will look much better next year."

CHUMPHON — A woman narrowly escaped death after a car crashed through the wall of her house in the middle of the night in southern Thailand's Chumphon province, leaving both the homeowner and driver injured, police said.

The incident occurred at about 00:30 on 24 May in front of Municipal Soi 6, also known as Talad Nai Soi, in Moo 4 of Tha Yang subdistrict, Muang district.

According to police, the car first struck a rubbish bin before losing control, crossing a four-lane road and smashing through the wall of a roadside home on the Pak Nam–Chumphon road. The impact caused extensive damage to the house and belongings inside.

Officers received reports of a vehicle crashing into a residential property with two people injured. Rescue workers from the Chumphon Charity Foundation and Tha Yang municipal emergency responders were dispatched to the scene.

Authorities found a blue Mazda 323, heavily damaged after ploughing through the house wall and into the building. Household items were strewn across the property.

The homeowner, identified as Pornpasorn Boonyuen, about 50, suffered neck injuries and numbness across part of her body. Emergency workers administered first aid before taking her to Chumphon Khet Udomsak Hospital.

The driver, a man believed to be about 30 years old, was also injured and taken to hospital.

Neighbours told authorities they were awakened by a loud crash and rushed outside to find the car embedded in Ms Pornpasorn's home. She had been sleeping alone inside at the time.

Witnesses said the vehicle had emerged at speed from a side street opposite the house before losing control, hitting a rubbish bin, crossing the road and crashing into the property.

Police said they were questioning the driver at hospital to determine the cause of the crash and gathering evidence for possible legal action.

Kan Atiruj Warns News-Telling Influencers to Respect Copyright as Every Video Has an Owner

News anchor Kan Atiruj cautions social media influencers to respect copyright laws when reporting news, emphasizing that every photo and video belongs to the creator who captured it.

2d ago Khaosod

The copyright issue has become a trending topic following a dispute between veteran news producers and news-reporting influencers. Prominent news anchor Kan Atiruj Kittipat recently shared her thoughts and offered a cautionary message to news-content creators on social media during the launch of the "Saansook" application at the Health Promotion Fund's Learning Center.

Kan explained, "I understand both sides of this issue. I know the influencers and have worked with veteran news producers. Everyone in journalism bears the cost of going into the field and producing content. In this case, I believe the influencer may not have initially understood the legal requirements thoroughly, but they are now aware and have already apologized for the mistake."

Kan also shared her own experience creating news content on social media, noting that fans frequently request additional visuals to enhance the stories. However, she emphasized that she deliberately refrains from using others' photos or videos in her clips because she fully recognizes that every image and every video belongs to someone who invested effort in capturing it.

Government Cracks Down on Illegal Loan Apps and Predatory Interest Rates, Warns Public Against Deceptive Advertising

The government has shut down 57 illegal loan apps charging predatory interest rates and blocked 1,466 related websites, warning the public against scams using false promises of easy, fast borrowing.

2d ago Khaosod

May 24, 2025 — Deputy Government Spokesman Ploychonlasuk Laksameesangchan revealed that the government has instructed relevant agencies to coordinate a crackdown on unlicensed lending applications and websites charging exorbitant interest rates. Over the past year, from February 2024 to May 20, 2025, the Bank of Thailand submitted 79 suspicious apps to the Ministry of Digital Economy for Society (DE) for legal action, with authorities confirming that 57 of these apps were unregistered. The DE ministry has petitioned the court to ban these apps from app stores and remove illegal microcredit listings. Additionally, the government has proactively blocked 1,466 URLs associated with predatory lending between October 1, 2024 and May 17, 2025.

Deputy Spokesman Ploychonlasuk noted that scammers are currently deceiving the public through various channels including websites and social media, using enticing claims such as "easy to borrow," "fast approval," "low interest rates," "minimal documentation," and "no collateral needed, even with a blacklist." Victims risk losing personal information such as national ID numbers, house registration documents, and bank account details, or losing money through fraudulent upfront fees and deposits.

"The government urges citizens to verify any loan app's legitimacy by checking the Bank of Thailand's website before borrowing. Search for 'check loan app' to verify the app's registration status. If you've already been deceived and transferred deposit fees or charges, you can immediately report it to the AOC hotline 1441 available 24 hours a day," the deputy spokesman stated.
