Divining Lottery Numbers from the Puppet Spirit Banishment Ritual: Two Digits Clear, Third One Remains a Mystery
Villagers in Uttaradit province used a traditional puppet spirit banishment ritual to divine lottery numbers, identifying 45 as the first two digits with the third remaining unclear ahead of June's draw.
In a traditional puppet spirit banishment ritual to divine fate, villagers in Uttaradit province have identified two clear lottery numbers, while the third digit remains ambiguous. Residents are preparing to test their luck with these numbers in the June 1st lottery draw.
On May 26th, reporters covered the event at the entrance to Wat Natalay in Moo 5, Sri Phnom Mas Subdistrict, Lap La District, Uttaradit Province, where villagers of Moo 5 prepared ritual baskets made from banana leaves in various shapes. The baskets contained figurines representing household members, pets, and real animals, along with snacks, dairy products, savory and sweet foods, vegetables, chili, and fruits arranged in small packages.
The "Tuk-tae Sia Gabol" or "Ghost-tricking Puppet" ritual is an ancient tradition designed to protect homes and ward off illness, misfortune, and evil spirits from the community. Ritual specialists light incense and candles while making offerings to deities and spirits, asking for protection and cleansing.
The baskets are placed at the three-way intersection, believed to be a convergence point of spiritual energy and the passage of spirits. After the ritual, residents return home to thoroughly clean their houses, bathe, and wash their hair to purify themselves and welcome auspiciousness into their families.
After the blessing ceremony concludes, villagers perform an incense divination to determine lucky lottery numbers. The ritual revealed three digits clearly visible as 45 for the first two numbers, while the third digit appeared ambiguous—some interpret it as 8, others as 3, depending on perspective. The resulting numbers 458 and 453 will be played in the June 1st lottery draw.
