The line between a nightmare and death is razor thin. Two siblings jolted awake as flames crept dangerously close. Exhausted from work and deep in sleep, they felt unusual heat and woke to see fire—at first disbelieving their eyes before fleeing through the blaze together. Both were burned in the escape.
At 6 p.m. on May 26, 2569, Lieutenant Colonel Rung Daodungsuk, superintendent of Mae Sot Police Station in Tak Province, received reports of a fire destroying multiple residential buildings in the Baan Huai Kahloke community, Moo 4, Tambon Mae Pa, Amphoe Mae Sot, Tak Province. Four fire trucks from Mae Sot Municipality and Mae Pa Subdistrict Administration were immediately dispatched to contain the fire, accompanied by district administrative officials.
The incident occurred in a densely populated residential area close to the Thai-Myanmar border. Both Thai citizens and numerous Myanmar laborers were startled and gathered in the streets to witness the disaster. The origin building was a single-story rental home constructed of old teak wood, completely engulfed in flames. The fire rapidly spread to neighboring houses due to strong winds.
Firefighters immediately mobilized water cannons and spent approximately 30 minutes bringing the blaze under control. Initial reports indicated two homes were destroyed. Officers found Miw, age 35, the tenant of the origin building, sitting by the roadside in tears with burns covering his face and body in multiple places. His older brother, Nai, age 40, also sustained burn injuries. Emergency responders administered first aid before transporting both men to Mae Sot Hospital, where their conditions were reported as stable.
According to questioning, Miw explained that he and his brother had just finished their daily work and fell into a deep sleep from exhaustion. Shortly after, he felt unusual heat and noticed fire in the kitchen. Initially, he thought it was a dream, but upon regaining full consciousness, he realized the fire was real and spreading rapidly into his bedroom. He quickly woke his brother, and they fled through the flames without managing to save any belongings. Police will investigate the actual cause of the fire before proceeding further.
