Trump Says Iran Negotiations "Going Very Well," Deal Possible, But Threats Remain—Warns of Intense Bombing if No Agreement Reached

The US and Iran are reportedly close to a potential deal after high-level talks, with Trump warning of intensified bombing if negotiations fail. Pakistan is mediating discussions on a 14-point memorandum that could include halting Iran's nu

7 May Khaosod

Iran says a US proposal to end the conflict is "still under consideration" following reports that the two sides may be close to reaching a deal. The US news outlet Axios reported on May 6 that the White House believes it could be nearing a 14-point memorandum of understanding with Iran.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagaei said Iran will share its views on the US proposal with Pakistan, which is serving as a mediator. "Iran is currently considering the US proposal and after reaching a conclusion will inform Pakistan of its opinion."

Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar said Pakistan is working to transform the ceasefire into a permanent end to the war.

US President Donald Trump stated that the US has had "very good talks" with Iran over the past 24 hours and that a deal is possible. However, Trump posted threatening messages on Truth Social once again, warning that if Iran does not agree, "bombing will commence and sadly it will be far more severe and devastating than before."

Trump also said that Operation Epic Fury, the joint US-Israel strikes on Iran, will end if Iran complies with the agreed terms. Subsequently, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the operation has already ended after achieving its objectives.

Axios also reported that a one-page memorandum containing 14 points could frame more detailed nuclear talks, with some provisions including halting Iran's nuclear advancement, lifting sanctions, and restoring free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim Rezaei, spokesman for Iran's Supreme National Security Council and Foreign Policy Committee in parliament, posted a message on X denying Axios's report, stating that "America will get nothing from a war they are losing, which they did not negotiate face-to-face," and that Iran is ready to act. He also warned that if the US does not back down, Iran will respond with violence and cause regret.

On the same day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there is full coordination between himself and Trump regarding Iran. "There is nothing surprising. We have shared objectives, and the most important objective is to remove all nuclear advancement from Iran, including destroying Iran's nuclear capability,"

Arrested: Ex-son-in-law Opens Fire on Family, Two Dead Including Ex-father-in-law

A man arrested in Kanchanaburi shot and killed his ex-father-in-law and ex-wife's brother early May 7, with a third family member wounded, following disputes over sugarcane crops on shared land.

7 May Khaosod

At 2:30 AM on May 7, 2025, Pol. Lt. Col. Phachawee Reungphu, commander of the Kanchanaburi Provincial Police, along with Pol. Maj. Sittipong Sangsaeng, superintendent of Ladyai Police Station, led investigators from both Ladyai Station and the provincial police to arrest Chayant (surname withheld), who shot Sariree (surname withheld), 54, his ex-mother-in-law, causing serious injuries. Satya (surname withheld), 32, Sariree's son, and Songwan (surname withheld), 64, his ex-father-in-law, were killed in the incident at a residence in Tambon Ladyai, Muang District, Kanchanaburi Province.

Chayant was apprehended on a public road in Tambon Nong Bua, Muang District, carrying a Glock 17 handgun in 9mm, seven 9mm rounds, and one magazine.

Initial charges against Chayant include premeditated murder, attempted premeditated murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition without registration, and carrying weapons through populated areas without justifiable cause.

According to preliminary interrogation, Chayant, a former son-in-law of the victims, had family disputes stemming from a divorce. The family previously cultivated sugarcane on approximately 700 rai of land. When Chayant's ex-wife filed for divorce in late 2024, the court awarded all the sugarcane crops to her family but granted Chayant a portion of the land. When the ex-wife's family harvested the sugarcane but did not clear it from Chayant's section, preventing him from preparing his land for new planting, he requested their cooperation. After receiving no response to his requests, Chayant rode to the house to demand when they would clear the sugarcane but was ignored, prompting him to commit the attack. Authorities continue investigating the full circumstances.

Argentina Reports Dutch Couple Among 3 Deaths from Hantavirus Outbreak on Cruise Ship

Three people have died from hantavirus aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship that departed southern Argentina, including a Dutch couple believed infected during a bird-watching tour near Ushuaia before boarding.

7 May Khaosod

Argentine authorities are investigating a hantavirus outbreak aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship operated by Netherlands-based Oceanwide Expeditions, which departed from southern Argentina. The virus typically spreads through contact with contaminated rodent droppings, and human-to-human transmission is rare, occurring only through close contact. A Dutch couple, who are among the 3 deaths, are believed to have been infected during a bird-watching tour in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego before boarding. Officials noted the couple visited a waste disposal site during the tour, potentially exposing them to disease-carrying rodents, though investigations continue as the region has never reported hantavirus cases. The UN health agency reported that three suspected hantavirus patients were evacuated from the cruise ship to hospitals while the vessel remained anchored off Cape Verde with nearly 150 passengers awaiting travel to Spain's Canary Islands. Health officials in protective gear evacuated patients from the ship, including the ship's doctor, whose condition has improved after initially being severe. Spain's health ministry stated the passenger arrival poses no public health risk. The WHO confirmed 3 deaths, with at least 8 infected individuals total and 3 laboratory-confirmed hantavirus cases. Authorities have begun tracking at-risk individuals in Europe and Africa to identify suspected cases who disembarked earlier. The three evacuated patients are a 41-year-old Dutch national, a 56-year-old British citizen, and a 65-year-old German national who will be sent immediately to specialized hospitals in Europe. The Netherlands confirmed it will accept one patient while Germany is preparing for a second. Oceanwide Expeditions stated two patients remain in critical condition while the third is asymptomatic but in close contact with confirmed cases.

Bus Tire Blowout Causes Collision with Fuel Tanker, Triggering Massive Fire in Indonesia—16 Dead

A bus tire blowout triggered a collision with a fuel tanker on Indonesia's Sumatra island on May 6, killing 16 people and sparking a massive fire that engulfed both vehicles.

7 May Khaosod

A road accident involving a passenger bus and a fuel tanker killed 16 people and injured four others on Indonesia's Sumatra island on May 6. Fourteen bus passengers and two fuel tanker workers died in the midday crash in North Musi Rawas Regency, South Sumatra. All four injured were hospitalized, with three suffering severe burns from the fire.

Initial reports indicate that one of the bus's tires burst, causing the driver to lose control and collide with the fuel tanker, resulting in a massive fire that engulfed both vehicles carrying diesel fuel. Transport accidents remain common in Indonesia, particularly involving public transportation vehicles that lack proper maintenance.

This incident follows a fatal train collision in April in Bekasi, West Java, where a long-distance train crashed into a stationary passenger train near Bekasi Timur Station, killing 16 people and injuring approximately 90. Days later, another train struck a car in Central Java, killing four people, including two children.
