An armed ex-son-in-law stormed a home in Kanchanaburi Province and opened fire on family members, killing two people and critically injuring one. The suspect, identified as Chayan, 47, recently separated from his wife and had ongoing disputes with his ex-in-laws over debts and land. Police are actively searching for the suspect who fled into a nearby forest.
Police from Lad Yao Station in Kanchanaburi Province responded to an emergency report at 7:20 p.m. on May 6, 2025, of an ex-son-in-law using a firearm to shoot family members at a residential home in Moo 7, Lad Yao Subdistrict, Muang District, Kanchanaburi Province. When officers and rescue personnel arrived, they found that family members had already transported two gunshot victims to the hospital: Sarinee, 54, shot once in the face and once in the right shoulder with critical injuries, and Satyah, 32, shot once above the right breast and once in the chest, also critically injured. Despite medical efforts to save them, both victims succumbed to their wounds due to the severity of their injuries. Behind the house, rescuers discovered the body of Songwan, 64, shot twice in the chest and already deceased. Seven 9mm shell casings were found scattered across the floor.
Investigation revealed the shooter was Chayan, 47, an ex-son-in-law who had separated from Songwan's daughter at the end of 2024. Chayan arrived on a motorcycle and parked beside the house before entering and opening fire on his ex-mother-in-law Sarinee and ex-brother-in-law Satyah, causing them to collapse. When Songwan witnessed the violence, he attempted to fight Chayan and seize the weapon, but Chayan retreated. As Songwan tried to retrieve a firearm from inside the house, Chayan followed and shot him fatally.
According to the village headman of Moo 7, who is a relative of the deceased, Chayan had continued to cause problems at his former in-laws' home even after the separation due to disputes over debts and disagreements regarding a shared sugarcane plantation.
Currently, police from Lad Yao Station, Kanchanaburi Provincial Police, and Muang District administration officials are actively pursuing Chayan. Witnesses reported seeing him fleeing across the street into the forest across from the incident house. The manhunt is ongoing.
