The Rainbow Room Foundation, Thailand's first center for understanding learning diversity, in collaboration with Prakasakan Education under Wattanapanich Publishing Company, has launched 'My Growing Journey,' the first multisensory guide designed for individuals with learning differences such as autism, Down syndrome, and ADHD. The book specifically helps children confidently navigate the physical and emotional changes of adolescence, with Dr. Sumitra Pongsathon, chair of the Catholic Education Identity Division of the Thai Catholic Education Commission, serving as event chairperson.
Rosalina Alexander McKay, president of the Rainbow Room Foundation, explained that the book took nearly a year to develop with the goal of equipping families with tools to discuss sensitive topics during ages 9-13, including bodily changes, emotions, relationships with parents and peers, physical and internet safety, and more—while respecting each child's pace and maturity. What makes it special is that every copy includes a QR code linking to the digital version and entertainment resources about laws children and parents should know from the justice system.
The book was endorsed by Andrea Rothenberg, a public health expert from New York, Dr. Khwan Hansomkid, and Dr. Pelin Prathummas, leading experts in learning diversity who served as consultants. Gimjai Ekkamapracha Anuwat Namchuea served as editor, and Nikhom Chaiwanon created the illustrations. The book emphasizes simple language, visual supports, and clear diagrams to help neurodivergent adolescents access information in ways suited to their individual learning styles.
'When a 13-year-old reader told us this book transformed their 'shame' into 'confidence,' that proved we achieved our goal,' Rosalina said, adding 'Our mission is to help every child feel safe, healthy, and happy being themselves.'
Key features include child-friendly design with minimal text clutter for easy reading, multiple learning formats with diagrams, checklists and thinking activities, tools for trusted adults to discuss difficult topics, and legal information with QR codes linking to laws youth and parents should know from the justice system.
With support from anonymous donors, the foundation printed 5,000 copies to distribute to families, educators, and public health workers in need. Copies can be requested via LINE ID @TheRainbowRoom.
