Nattaphong Declares Fight Against Patronage System, Sets Four Key Milestones as Shadow Cabinet Launch Looms
Phakkaiyachon Party leader Nattaphong Rueangpanyawutthi announced a restructuring initiative at the party's annual assembly, declaring the party's fight against the patronage system with four key strategic milestones. Alongside plans to launch a shadow cabinet and accelerate nationwide candidate recruitment by July, Nattaphong emphasized a dual approach combining ideological work with intensive grassroots engagement, rejecting traditional political patronage models.
At 8:30 AM on April 26, 2569, the Phakkaiyachon Party convened its 2569 annual general assembly at the Maple Hotel in Bangkok's Bangna district, with senior party leaders including Nattaphong Rueangpanyawutthi, Sirikanya Thaensakul, Veerayuth Kanchoochattrat, Nattawuth Buaprathoem, and others present.
At 9:25 AM, Nattaphong opened the meeting by outlining the party's restructuring, government oversight approach, and future direction. He stated that while the gathering was the formal annual assembly, the party had conducted extensive seminars over the previous two days focusing not merely on internal party issues but on the nation's problems and future. He emphasized that the Phakkaiyachon Party must serve as a vehicle for genuine social change.
Nattaphong outlined three areas of clarity the party achieved through discussion: personnel, party operations, and the nation's major challenges. He also presented four key milestones the party will propose to the Thai people as crucial developments expected in 2569.
Regarding the first point of clarity, Nattaphong congratulated ten MPs who will continue serving in the House of Representatives. The second clarity concerns the new party management committee structure to be formally presented during the assembly agenda.
Nattaphong acknowledged pressure the party faced to choose between being a mainstream party or transforming itself to work at the grassroots level. "Change cannot be achieved by choosing just one path," he stated. "We must pursue both simultaneously at the highest level. Suggestions have come from members that ideological work must be intense and must begin within the party itself. I have committed to party members that our management committee and party leadership will emphasize rigorous ideological work both within and outside the party."
However, Nattaphong stressed that ideological work alone cannot achieve genuine transformation—grassroots work must also be intensive. The party will establish community leadership units to cultivate ideological seeds among the people and future generations. He emphasized that grassroots work will not involve distributing goods or creating political patronage relationships. "People do not need to be indebted to us as politicians. We must serve them," he said. Suggestions from MPs indicate that grassroots organization means inviting people to become stakeholders in issues rather than followers.
