Four-Year-Old Chinese Boy Falls From 11th Floor and Miraculously Survives After Climbing Out Window Looking for His Mother
A four-year-old boy in Dalian, China, survived an 11th-floor fall with only a five percent survival rate after climbing out a window to look for his mother while she was making a delivery.
On May 10, foreign media reported that a four-year-old Chinese boy miraculously survived after falling from an eleventh-floor apartment while climbing out a window because he missed his parents who had stepped out to make a delivery. Doctors revealed his survival odds were only five percent.
The harrowing incident occurred in mid-April in Dalian, northeastern China. Xiaoming was left home alone while his parents stepped out to deliver goods, intending to return quickly. The boy's mother explained that the family felt confident he was safe because they had locked both the bedroom door and windows, and had surveillance cameras monitoring him constantly.
However, the boy managed to find a key to unlock the window himself and climbed out to look outside because he missed his mother and wanted to see if she was coming home. About two hours later, his father returned to the room and discovered his son was missing. He rushed downstairs to search and found the boy lying on the concrete floor near the building in critical condition.
The father immediately rushed him to the hospital. Doctors reported the child's condition was extremely critical, with multiple fractures and internal organ damage affecting his liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys.
"The doctor said the survival rate was only five percent. At that moment, it felt like the world was crashing down on us," the boy's father said.
Xiaoming was admitted to the ICU, and doctors provided updates to the family twice daily amid the parents' extreme worry. However, after 18 days, the boy's condition improved enough to be transferred from the ICU to a regular ward, where he is now undergoing rehabilitation.
The boy's mother tearfully revealed that her son is a well-behaved, obedient child. When asked why he climbed out the window, he answered, "I missed Mom so much. I just wanted to see if she was coming home."
The family believes Xiaoming will make a complete recovery and acknowledges this as a true miracle. China's child protection laws stipulate that guardians should not leave children under eight years old alone, though cases of accidents resulting in prosecution of guardians have been rare.
